Hello everyone, :hello:
How has everyone been? I hope that everyone has been fine. I have been busy and my summer has been good. How has your summer been, what have you done? I went swimming a few times, and have been to a few cookouts, and other fun events. Recently I have taken some photos and I have been working on some of my paintings. I have two abstract paintings that I am currentlyworking on. One is of an abstract space scene, and the other is basically just practice for new techiques that I am trying or learning. I have finally caught up some, though I have still a lot more ahead of me to finish. But, still, my summer has been fine. It could have been better, but I am looking forwards to working on my artwork and photography, and my writings. I plan to move, so I have put some things off for now, but I will pick things up again at my new location.
What has everyone else been up to? What are your plans?
Take care, :)

Wow, I am surprised that the board has been so slow lately. LOL. Still, it is nice to be here and to be able to read the post and to say hello every now and again. I hope that everyone is fine and doing good. :)

Just about all the boards I participate in are slow. One board, this time last year, would go on for 3 to 4 pages of active threads. Barely has one page running now. The dynamic is changing a bit, I think. Things like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter are taking more of people's time and energy online.

Hello Swidden,
Thank you for the reply, it is good to hear from you. I think that you are correct with Facebook and the other sites taking too much time from people, and that is a shame. Boards like this one are one of my favorite pasttime things, and they are better that Facebook. It feels more like a family and a home here in a way, and far less commercial like Facebook. Thus the overall experience is more pleasant on KOT and other boards than it is on Facebook.
Anyways, it nis always good to see everyone here, take good care of yourself everybody! :)

I agree with the idea that boards like this are more personal. On FB you can get a lot of "drive by" posts. Not that a community can't evolve there, but with boards virtual communities/neighborhoods develop and last for years at a time.

I think it may also have to do with the fact that the novelty of these boards has worn off, at least for me it has … and that the slowdown is contagious. I click into this board and another almost every other day just to see what’s new and lately there has been very little that is new, and since the novelty has worn off I don’t really feel compelled to add something new myself.

In a small way it’s kinda sad, ten years ago I couldn’t pull myself away from these forums, now there so quite.

BTW if anyone is a current affairs/political junky (one of the reasons I always liked coming to these forums) I found a new outlet on Facebook

Hope this link works:

I check in now and then myself and haven't seen much activity so I haven't posted. I don't check in every other day, but maybe a couple of times per month. The board has had almost no activity for quite awhile so I thought if I posted, probably no one would even notice. I'm glad to see at least a couple people are still around. :D

I don't have a lot of time for the boards anymore. I used to post a lot from work, but this past year has been so busy I can't even keep up with everything, let alone find extra time for posting. Outside work, I'm still training for the marathon in January and that, together with helping my daughter with her homework and keeping up with responsibilities, keeps my time pretty full. I'm not on Facebook at all and have no plans to be.

There are other boards around that are more active. So it is hard for me to say if this is a widespread trend, or just peculiar to a handfull of boards that you folks are involved with. There may be something to the point about the novelty wearing off. Also Facebook and LinkedIn are competitors that take energy away from sites like this. My main reason for participating in such sites as KeepOnTrekkin are that they allow me to stay anonymous. It is not so obvious how to do that with Facebook.

I think most people are not concerned about sharing their real life identity. So for them Facebook is the way to go. I am also on Facebook, but am more careful there to not say anything particularly controversial or that might upset my friends. I still believe in being diplomatic, but I can discuss substance more freely here.

At any rate, I hope the trend reverses and you folks start to share more of your ideas like in the good old days.

I agree with Swidden. Things all over boards like this have been very slow. I come in and check it out a few times a month as well.

Hello Reed. I don't think I've even seen you much over at SB63's lately, hope all is well.

Caltrek, nothing would make me happier than to see this and some of the other similar boards pick up in traffic. Like you I came to be involved with this online stuff when anonymity was the norm. When folks seemed to realize that the internet had the potential to have it's own unique hazards; especially in regards to one's identity. You're right that people these days don't seem to have as much concern about that. A whole generation is coming of with the idea that it's okay to be so open. Is it any wonder that there are repurcussions? Yet, so often those involved just don't stop to think that something should never be said and some photos should never be taken.

Hello everyone! :) It is good to see that so many people have recently replied to this thread, that is cool. B) I actually don't much like FaceBook, and I mainly go because of the fact that most of my family and friends use it. I used to like MySpace better, though I do quite honestly agree that I don't want my identity known to just anyone. I actually find FaceBook somewhat dificult to use, it has too many features if you ask the truth.
At any rate, what is everyone up to this weekend? I have some things to get caught up on and I will work on a couple paintings that I have been working on, and perhaps find some time to take some photos and to draw. :) What about the rest of you?
Please keep posting and hopefully we can bring life back to this board. B)

Here is a site that I have been involved with recently that still has a lot of traffic on it. If you do visit it, please remember your old friends back here at Keep on Treekin and continue to visit here occasionally.

I too have noticed it has become recently quiet on all of these forums, including startrek.com. When I first joined st.com nearly three years ago it was a hub of activity, met many wonderful people and found this groovy place. However now you are lucky to find many recent posts in a single day. I had many interactions with people on these forums, who I am now friends with of facebook, but have no direct interaction with. I miss that. But I guess thats just people going with the flow.

I still visit a number of these types of forums but I simply find it hard to find time to come here.

I finish classes forever at the end of next week, so I will hopefully have more time before I start uni to come to these places.

Startrek.com was done in by repeated denial of service attacks. The attacks themselves added to the drama of the place, but it was the reaction of admin that really brought the place down. I myself was banned for reasons that were never explained to me. I wonder sometimes if it was just a hacker that did it, but I tried on several occasions to ask admin why I was banned. I never received a response. Reports of that place slowing down are thus not suprising given those circumstances.

A lot of people were in the same boat as you CT. I know a number of folks from ST.com that incurred the wrath of a couple of posters over there and found themselves with a resulting ban. Whether or not these were deserved remains debatable. Some were banned, as you note, for no apparent reason.

I think, as far as ST.com site goes, that many who suppose that there is really no interest in it by those charged with running the place is the most accurate.

Hello again everyone!
It is good to see that this thread is still so popular. I too am a member of ST.com, though I have not posted there as often as here. If my computer wasn't broke, and if I was caught up more with my work then I would post here and there for frequently. I am currently at my local library, so it is nice to be able to use their computers. I am going to save for a new one ASAP, but the one that I want cost a lot of money. I am willing to pay more for a good computer, because I try to take very good care of my things so that that last a very long time. I once had a compute that lasted for nine years, and I used it most every day. It was still working when I trashed it , but it was far too slow, and too big. I want to get a new 3D laptop.

Sadly Swidden, I think you may be right. Star Trek was saved by its fans after corporate television miscalculated it potential as a revnue source and canceled the original series. Stratrek.com seems to have been in part created as a marketing tool for franchise related products, products that also incidently promoted the newer shows and movies. Initially, I think some visionaries had an idea of encouraging vigorous debate at the community forums. By the time I tuned in, there were many individuals posting political opinions that I found objectionable. So I waded into the fray. Not suprisingly, there were many that found my political perspective to be repugnant.

The original visonaries seem to have moved on to other places. Meanwhile, hackers loved to target the community site with various forms of denial of service attacks, etc. I remember reading shortly before I was banned that admin was thinking of depoliticizing the site, of shutting out those with controversial political opinions. They may have been encouraged to do so as a result of negotiations with certain hacker factions.

Being shut out was not a fun experience, but I always maintained that my posting privileges were just that, a privilege. So I suppose admin had every right to do what they did. As pointed out earlier, it is fortunate that there are other well moderated forums where civil political discussion is still invited. One problem I perceive though is that admininstrators may have their own biases as they exercise their police powers from site to site. Some sites may grow more conservative as radical voices are silenced. Other sites may grow more liberal as hard core conservatives are discouraged or banned. All this may end up meaning that our society may become increasingly polarized. Startrek.com at least had the virtue of attracting a wide range of political opinions. At its zenith, it was a place where healthy and spirited debate occurred. I think its demise has not helped the activity level of many of its satellite boards, such as Keep On Trekkin. Even so, I am grateful to you for your willingnes to continue to moderate this forum in a fair manner.

Hello everybody! B)
It is always good to see everyone here and to see that this thread is still going. This has quickly become one of my favorite threads. How has everyone been? I have been ok. I have had a recent cold, or a flu but I think that I am completely over it now. :) I hope that everyone is well and is having a fun and wonderful Thanksgiving! ;)
Take very good care of you and yours.
