Just checking in for the day ... hi to all.

Mel, I just recently got a cell phone too ... my first one. Actually, I detest the things, but I have finally caved into the pressure from the rest of the family. I intend to use it only when travelling alone (emergency situations). And to check in at home when I go off by myself hiking and snowshoeing (which I do a lot). I'm on a pay-as-you-go plan ... more expensive per minute than many other plans, but no monthly fee.

Most of the time I don't even turn it on except for when I want to make a call out. I got it 3 weeks ago and only made one call so far, mainly as a test to see if it really worked. I might actually use it tomorrow ... I'm planning to go snowshoeing again.

I'm on a pay as you go plan as well. Because I won't be using it much either. I only called my own landline once to make sure it was activated. Then I called my mom once while trying out the voice command feature...very cool :)

One person called me on it so far, and it was a wrong number...

Right now my daughter is on the phone in the bathroom telling her grandmother that she is in the bathroom because she's about to say something that she doesn't want to get in trouble for. She apparently doesn't know I'm on the computer right across the hall. The only problem is, her grandmother can't understand what she is saying so my daughter isn't getting to the punch line. :rotfl:

LOL! That's a great story. (BTW, at first I was wondering why your daughter would be on the phone. Then I saw the word 'grandmother.' ;))

It turns out that she was actually doing the right thing. She was told at her pre-K (and daycare before that) that potty words are said only in the bathroom. Yesterday, we were at her classmate's birthday party. There was a magician there who produced a bird and placed it on a kid's head. He then "pretended" that the bird pooped on the kid's head, but it turns out the bird really did! :o That's what my daughter wanted to tell her grandmother, but didn't want to get into trouble for saying "pooped" outside the bathroom.

By the way, my daughter is like a little teenager when she's on the telephone. She does get on there with friends occasionally too. It's funny to listen to.

Children often do things that leave us scratching our heads, don't they? And they often do say things that are very profound (that really get you thinking). :)

Very true. :)

Also, what my daughter can remember astounds me sometimes. This may be typical of children in general, but since I only have one, I don't really know. They have less to remember to begin with, so maybe that's why.

For example, a commercial came on for The Parent Trap the other day. My daughter said "We have that movie". I told her that we don't. She insisted we had watched it recently. I told her that she had never seen the movie and that I was sure I never would have put that on for her because she is still too young to really understand it. She kept insisting that she and I had watched it and that we own it. I told her I had never seen the movie and maybe she was thinking of having seen the commercial before. After she described part of the movie, I realized that we actually had watched a part of it on the Disney Channel a few months ago. I just didn't know what it was we were watching at the time because I came into it in the middle. So, while we don't own it, she was half right that we had watched it. And she remembered that, the name of it, and enough of what it was about to describe it with sufficient accuracy that I understood and remembered myself. :o

Shown up by a five year old...
