I've mentioned this on the other board, but I'm going to be away from tomorrow morning until Friday evening sometime to attend the funeral of a family member who passed away last night.

Mel,

I'm sorry to hear that. :( You'll be in my thoughts.

GMel,

Sorry to hear of this. I wish you and yours the best during this time. :grphug:

IE,

You know a lot more about timing belts than I do. When we got the oil changed recently, the guy in the pit said our car was spraying gasoline when it was running. I don't mind the waste as much as the potential danger involved. He didn't seem concerned (about the danger). I'm awaiting a call from our mechanic now. :)

Our mechanic has been in the business for about twenty years. We learned about him via word of mouth. He has several hundreds of cars on his land. He 'parts out' many of those that don't run. So if (for example) we need a gasoline line, he just takes it from one of the 'junks' on his lot. And as you mentioned, trust is very important when it comes to car mechanics.

That's quite nice about the availability of parts.

The lack of concern from the guy where you got your oil changed reminds me of something that happened when I was in college. A friend and I were driving somewhere and a car in the opposite direction went by with a flame under his car. We turned around and made haste to catch up with him to let him know. He eventually pulled off into a parking lot so we were able to tell him about the flame. His reply was something like "Yes, I know. So what...?"

IE,

Wow, that's a scary thought! I would be very concerned about any fire near my car.

Have you ever seen those people that continue to smoke cigarettes while they are filling up their car with gasoline? Hello???

I saw a car on fire once. That was a bizarre thing to see.

This was many years ago and I was traveling through Maryland (headed South). This woman's mini-van was on the side of the road completely engulfed in flames. I could feel the heat through my car window as I passed by.

Everyone was fine as far as I could tell. The firemen were all just standing back and letting it burn off some.

I often wonder how hot gasoline has to be to combust. I don't want to find out of course, but having gasoline dripping from one's car cannot be good. :wow:

Warner,

Yes, I have seen those people smoking while fueling. That despite the signs on the pumps that specifically say not to smoke. It makes me wish I had a T-shirt with a big  on it that I could hand to them. :D

Often, they are not only putting themselves in danger, but those around them. I can't imagine every fume is harmless. I cringe when I see this happening at filling stations. :jawdrop:

Good point and you're right.

I suppose you could always get angry and blow up at them. ;)

Huh? I'm aghast you would think such a thing!

Isabel,

Obviously, I was able to access KOT after a time. Sorry I jumped the gun there a bit. :)

And they say that the memory is the first thing to go ... at least I think that's what they always say ... not sure anymore.

MMmmm, anyone else like tuna fish? I have always like it.

I particularly like mixing a can of tuna with mayo/little bit of sweet relish/salt/pepper, and eat that with saltine crackers.

I love tuna fish. I have it with toasted bread. Sometimes, my son puts relish in it, although I think I like it with mayo only. And tuna fish goes incredibly well with milk for some reason....
