I like James Blunt, but not that much. Tkeisha stole my JB CD last time I saw her - and I never saw it again! WOO! (I'm on about the CD...) I'm into Muse now - going to see them at Wembley later this year! |

Another day, another sweatbox at work.
It started out with A/C and then the A/C disappeared around noon. After several hours a guy came and "fixed" it. That lasted for about 1/2 hour and not long enough to fully cool the place off. Then the heat level went back up. ![]() Intrepid, I remember Woolworth's, but I haven't seen one for years. They were popular when I was a kid and then they largely disappeared. By the time I reached college, there were only a handful left where I lived. Since then, I haven't seen any, but it may be because I moved to Florida. Warner, I'll be doing the car repair thing myself this weekend. I've been putting off getting my timing belt changed for far too long now and finally decided I had better do it before my repairs amount to replacing the engine... I remember when I was a teenager my father said "cars are not a luxury, they're an expense". Now I understand exactly what he meant.

^ That's bad too, but I've already had that problem as well. Before this heat problem, the A/C was usually blasting too high. I normally wear a sweater every day even when it's in the 90's outside. I suspect you're probably even colder though since you have the winter temperatures without heat. I'd rather be hot than cold.

What's funny is I said that while I'm sweating and feeling almost ill from this heat. But even that beats the inability to sit still due to shivering!

IE, I think your father was right. We had our timing belt replaced about a year ago. I was told that it ought to be done fairly quickly, as it could snap and leave you stranded. I don't know too much about cars, however. Best wishes with it.Our repairs consist of a caliper (breaks) plus a gasoline leak. The line will probably need to be replaced. Thankfully, we have a mechanic whom we trust, and who charges about one-half the standard rates for repairs.

Well, I only bought the CD...As for Muse, I bet you have heard their music - they're pretty big in America too. Kinda like prog-rock.Sing for Absolution Live - Muse - Youtube Give the link a go, I was at that concert at Glastonbury in 2004 - brilliant! It's my favourite song by them - one of their slower ones. |

Not bad. I would have to be in particular kind of mood to listen to this kind of music at length. Simply because there is an underlying sadness to it. I still don't think I have heard any of their music on the radio. I listen to stations that would play this kind of music. Admitedly, I don't hear everything that is played. Does the lead singer always sing in higher vocal ranges? |

Glad you like it.
Not all their songs are sombre and sad, many of them are more heavy and up tempo, but still very well written and well played. The singer (Matt Bellamy) nine times out of ten does sing in the higher vocal ranges, but his range is very broad, he can sing quite low too when needed. I personally think he's an excellent singer.

^^ I listened to the song a few more times after I posted those comments. The song got better the more I listened to it. I hope I don't become addicted. ![]() Intrepid, I have been meaning to tell you for a while now, that I really like your avatar. I think the stamp design is very inventive.

It's great when you have a mechanic whom you trust. We don't, so I go to the dealer, but I know I pay more that way. A gasoline leak?
It sounds like a good thing you're getting that one fixed!
(The brakes too, of course.)About the timing belt, if it breaks or slips, it can total your engine. There are two types of engines to consider with this; interference and non-interference. The interference type (which is the type I have) is the type that will self-destruct. The non-interference type probably wouldn't, but even then there is no guarantee. I was supposed to change mine about 10,000 miles ago. However, I pushed my luck because I'm planning to have the car for another 2 to 3 years and, at a $600 price tag to change the belt, I wanted to be sure I won't have to do it again down the road. But that was risky since the cost of an engine would be about $2,000. At this point, all I have to do it make it to Saturday though... |

I've mentioned this on the other board, but I'm going to be away from tomorrow morning until Friday evening sometime to attend the funeral of a family member who passed away last night. |

GMel, Sorry to hear of this. I wish you and yours the best during this time. IE, You know a lot more about timing belts than I do. When we got the oil changed recently, the guy in the pit said our car was spraying gasoline when it was running. I don't mind the waste as much as the potential danger involved. He didn't seem concerned (about the danger). I'm awaiting a call from our mechanic now. Our mechanic has been in the business for about twenty years. We learned about him via word of mouth. He has several hundreds of cars on his land. He 'parts out' many of those that don't run. So if (for example) we need a gasoline line, he just takes it from one of the 'junks' on his lot. And as you mentioned, trust is very important when it comes to car mechanics. |
