From the Rocky thread...
Warner, I haven't seen The Invaders. I just did a search and its definitely an oldie. But apparently a goody? I watched Anna and the King with Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat the other night. That is a good movie too IMO. I watch it about once a year.

^^^ I'll watch anything with Jodie Foster in it. I haven't seen Anna and the King yet, however. Maybe one day. Yes, The Invaders was quite good. It was neat seeing Scott Bakula in the lead role. I don't know how I missed this miniseries the first time around (came out in 1995). I am a fan of the 1960s t.v. series, and as a child I read a couple of books that were 'out of this world.' Seriously, they were a very good read, and at times they were quite chilling. Some of the descriptions in the books (of the aliens) were very well done (such as the inverted small finger); I was very happy that they alluded to this in the miniseries. It was time well spent, IMO.

Did you see the 1956 version of "The King and I" starring Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner? |

I won’t watch anything (for some reason I am not inspired to watch Panic Room), but do enjoy watching her in some projects. I absolutely loved her performance in Contact. Fantastic movie IMO. I liked her less so in Flight Plan. The character didn’t seem like a stretch for her to play. I didn’t get a sense that she stepped out of her box to portray the character. I think one of the first movies I ever saw her in was Silence of the Lambs. Outstanding movie. Very creepy. Incidentally, the guy who played Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) is one of the cops in Monk. His voice, demeanor and behavior sufficiently creeped me out so much from Silence of the Lambs that I couldn’t get past that character while watching him on Monk (when I did watch it). I think that contributed to why I initially didn’t get into the series. There were other reasons, but that was a factor. Also, I once watched part of an episode from Season One of Kung Fu (1973) and Jodie Foster was playing a character named Aletha. She was so young!
I have neither seen the 1960s TV series nor the mini-series. I will watch if I ever get the opportunity.

Yep. I have seen The King and I several times over the years. Yul Brynner is great, and as far as musicals are concerned, The King and I is pretty good. I am not an avid musical fan though. I can take it in small doses. I much prefer a less theatrical format when watching a movie. The King and I is not a musical and is more of a Drama/Intrigue. I much prefer watching that genre of movie. The storyline was changed up a bit for Anna and the King as well. All in all, I enjoyed watching the modern 1999 adaptation with Foster and Chow more. |

I know how that goes. There are a few characters that have been typecast, or whom have played so different a role than their 'norm,' which in some cases has left a lasting impression on the viewer. There are some actors that regret this. A couple that come to mind are Anthony Perkins and (slightly less so) Louise Fletcher. Another one for me was Elizabeth Hartman.
I think one of the first films I saw her in was Freaky Friday. I also saw Taxi Driver when I was a teen. The youngest I remember her was when she was in an episode of The Partridge Family. In that one, she punched Danny in the eye, although they both ended up getting along quite well after that. |

I have noticed that child stars have the biggest problem with being typecast. Very few can make it in Hollywood past a certain age. It takes having a level head to do it. Reese Witherspoon was able to successfully do it. She had a good head on her shoulders and knew when to take a break from Hollywood when necessary. Re: Your comments on Witherspoon's marriage (from the 'Mind Meld' thread)... I can't say that I have ever heard anything about their faith (or lack there of). I know I would like to know what was going on in her husband's mind. I suppose it takes two to make a marriage work or fail. I think Ryan may be more responsible on the failure end. I have seen mention of a possible affair on her husband's part. However, I didn't keep up with the events when the divorce was first announced, so I don't know what has been said since. |

Yes. And Jodie Foster is another one with IMO a level head on her shoulders. The only thing I know about their faith is that Reese is fairly devout. In an article I read about six months ago (this was an interview she gave), she mentions attending church regularly with her child, and how her father challenges her each day (in a good way). I was actually quite intrigued by what she said in this regard. She mentioned that he pushes her mind, by stretching her to learn each day. I believe I read that he is a doctor. If her husband had an affair, that's a dang shame.... |

^^ A shame indeed if true. Well, the weather here today is kind of iffy. A bit chilly and we are getting the occasional drizzle. |
