I am afraid that the quality that is being put out will not attract much in the way of long term, franchise invested fans.

Depends. I am considering waiting until the video release. Although my niece (who I introduced to Trek) wants to see it. She is staying away from all plot spoilers and wants to be surprised. I told her I wouldn't divulge any info, but she knows that is was possible I might not be happy with what the rumors about the villain were. So, if she wants me to go with her then I'll go and keep my mouth shut until after the film. If not, then it's up in the air.

The school year is winding down. Mini-Swidden is about finish kindergarten and his teacher's main aid handed out goody bags to the kids today. Some got two, such as my little guy, for her own special awards. He got his for being "Best Class Clown". He's quite proud of this achievement. Mom and me? Not as much, though in it rather funny. What's amazing to about it is that there really was some stiff competition in this particular category!

Did the national geeography competition again this year, and got a distinction again! I was happy ... I think.
Anyway grade 12 has been so busy that it isn't even funny.

My friend uploaded the last school assembly onto youtube, which was a themed assembly. Heres the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3OMiP8rDdc It was amusing at the time, though not so much on video.

Lol, sorry that was a bit of a random collection of thoughts.

For anyone that's still around, I just thought I'd mention that I finally ran the Walt Disney World Marathon last Sunday. The weather couldn't have been better. It started in the high 50's and never got above the mid 60's. I hardly sweated the whole time and it definitely helped. My run itself went better than expected and I finished in 3 hours, 59 minutes, and 24 seconds.

My past year of training went anything but well though. It started with hip pain back in February that took a couple of months to work through. As I was getting my mileage back, I started having lower back pain. That was bad enough on one 5 mile run that I almost couldn't even walk home and I was 2 miles out. After I worked through that, I developed "IT band" (iliotibial band) pain in my left knee which is a common running "injury". I put "injury" in quotes because it's really due to friction of some fascia tissue rubbing against the bone and is not really an injury, but just pain due to the friction. My doctor said it's ok to run with it - i.e., won't cause further injury like a pulled muscle would - as long as I could stand the pain. But it was very painful so I spent most of the summer cutting back my running distance and doing physical therapy to work out the IT band pain.

At the beginning of September, it was time to start the 18-week training plan to build up to the marathon distance. I was just getting back to where I could run 5 miles pain free and it was not the running base I was hoping to have by then. But it was time so I started the plan. Everything went well until the end of October when I developed pain in a tendon by my left ankle. When that didn't go away after a couple of days of rest, I was concerned that my marathon would be over if I kept running on it. So I took 10 days off from running to give it the best chance of going away, but all total, that was about 2 weeks out of the marathon training plan. It worked, but consequently, the longest distance that I ran before the marathon was 18 miles, but it was supposed to have been 20. I had to make several other adjustments to the training plan as well for various reasons before I was done. Finally, after the 2 week rest, my IT band pain came back and I had to live with it for the rest of my training and the race itself. I ended up wearing a strap just above my knee that is meant to help reduce the friction and it's the only reason I was able to continue my training and ultimately run the marathon.

So, at the beginning of the year, my goal had been to run the marathon under 4 hours. By marathon day, I had dropped that goal and just wanted to finish. I felt somewhat under trained and knew I had to add 8.2 miles to the longest distance I had ever run up to that point. I wasn't even sure I would be able to do it. So needless to say, I was completely happy that I not only finished, but did actually do so in just under 4 hours.
