Hi everyone. Sorry for being such a stranger lately. I'm in the middle of installing 5 new servers at work and getting all of our network functions transferred. It's amazing how many little details there are when you do everything all at once like this. And I have to be careful to move things without interrupting any of the production while people are working in the network. So this has been keeping me swamped. First choosing the servers, then setting them up physically, and finally all the installations and configurations. Plus I have to learn about Windows Server 2008 along the way since we have had Windows Server 2003 for many years, but have now upgraded with these servers.

Today is also the 5k running race day (well, really tonight at 7:00). I think I'm about in the same shape as I was last year so I'm hoping to do about as well at least. I'm feeling a bit tired though like my body might be fighting off getting a cold or something so we'll see how this goes...

I hope you are all doing well! :wave2:

Good luck on the race Impulse. Mrs Swidden's younger brother took a up running not too long ago. Now he's encouraging her to do so. As a result she signed both her and myself up for the Wharf to Wharf Race this summer (about 6 miles/9.7 km). I've got about 3 months to prep for it.

Thanks 24 and Swidden.

Wow Swidden, 3 months isn't a lot of time to prepare for a 6 mile race unless you already run some. I had 2 months to prepare for the 3.1 mile (5K) race yesterday and felt barely prepared. And that's having a lot of running experience in my past. It partly depends on what you hope to do. If you don't mind walking some, you'll be able to at least finish. You may or may not have enough time to prepare so that you can run the whole thing without any walking. That will depend in part on mental as well as physical stamina. The 10K race, which is almost the same, is actually my favorite race. I'm hoping to work up to one of those this year if I can find one to run in. Anyway, good luck with your training! :)

My race yesterday went as well as it could under the circumstances. There were over 15,000 people in the race. It's called the Corporate 5K and it's all companies and their employers and employees in the race. The CEO's get seeded in the front area and they get to bring 1 employee in every 10 with them. Last year, I was in that seeded area. This year, we didn't have enough people to get the seeded spot so our CEO was up there, but I was back with everyone else. After the gun went off, it took over 9 minutes just to cross the starting line! Then for the entire race, the crowd never cleared. I was constantly battling to pass people that were going slower and often it was hard to find a path through. At the end, I was more tired than I ever remember feeling after a race because of all the dodging people. So, last year, I ran it in 25 minutes and 10 seconds. This year, their clock said 35 minutes and 27 seconds, but I started my own watch when I finally crossed the starting line. My watch said 26 minutes and 4 seconds. So I wasn't too far off from last year and I can't complain considering the crowdedness. Being up the front last year, I had to dodge for about the first mile and then it cleared. So it was much different this year.

I'm also going to do better this year about maintaining my running throughout the year by enrolling in some other races to keep me motivated. Next year, if I'm lucky enough to be able to get a seeded spot again, I hope to really cut that time down.

I do expect to finish! Run the whole way? Well, run/jog at least. I am pretty adept at long distance hikes so the distance and endurance won't be so much of an issue. I figure if I can finish somewhere under 90 minutes I'm good.

Swidden, yes, if you're in shape for long distance hikes, that will definitely help. Three months may be enough after all then. :) If you train consistently between now and then, I think you'll finish well under 90 minutes.

Is this something you volunteered for, or got roped into doing? :loling:

hmmmmmmm, I love the 'new' look my monitor has taken. Just kidding, I hate it. Its not showing anything red. And its got a tint of blue. I think the graphics card has bit the dust.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what it is?

First, reset your monitor settings to see if the colors were accidentally changed.

Second, check your cables to make sure they aren't going bad/a pin is loose/connector loose. It may not be making contact with your monitor or graphics card properly.

Third, your monitor could be going bad. Iif you have an extra monitor to hook up to your computer to test with, that would be great.

However, the graphics card could be the culprit if it isn't one of the first three issues. Although, I am leaning towards it being #3. I had to replace my monitor a few months ago due to display issues too.

Hi all! I'm back from a weekend at mom's. Missed the chat & the games. Goliath, are you going to the London Convention with ALL 5 STAR TREK CAPTAINS!!!!! It's history-making! (If I'd won that damn lottery I could afford the trip, I mean, trek.)

Hello Ladybug, it's good to have you back! I assume your weekend away was an enjoyable one? I currently have no plans regarding the London Convention, even though it looks very exciting. I simply don't have the money at the moment, and i'm sure it will quickly sell out.

Consider volunteering, if that's possible. The atmosphere is going to be electric! :wow:

Home was nice. Mom and I both have March birthdays and sis and I usually go in March, but something got in the way, so we went on Fri. and came back today. My brother lives with mom and I helped him start a Facebook page so he's very excited about finding friends all over. We had great meals, the trips there and back were fine, so overall, it was a great success.

I've only been to two Trek cons and both were in 2004. The first and best con was in London and it was the first time I'd travelled overseas. I met Connor Trinneer (my whole reason for going), Dominic Keating, Hallie Todd, & Marina Sirtis, among others.

Some of the Harry Potter kids were there as well. I met the Phelps twins (the Weasley's) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom). The third film was opening the following month.

The best part was meeting so many of my friends from the Trek & Trinneer site(s) message boards. There was the English contingent, of course, but also friends from Germany, Australia and the US. It was one of the best experiences of my life!

Does anyone here go to cons?

I've reset the monitor, however that has not changed anything. I've cleaned the dust off the inside of the computer and double checked the cables, I've pulled them out and put them back in. The monitor is new, I only got it a year ago.

When I pull up the monitors settings through the monitor, they come up the same colour as it should be, but behind still remains with the blue tint.

I'm thinking it's the graphics card now, but it could be something else....

Thankyou for the help! :D

Good luck Impulse!
Thanks :) , but I already ran last week. At this point, it's good luck Swidden! :D

Although, I am strongly considering entering another 5K race that will take place on July 4th. In addition, if the same organization holds a 10K race in the Fall (which they usually do), I may enter that one too. I'm determined to find ways to motivate myself to keep running and improving this year until the same corporate race next year because I really want to get my time down closer to what I used to be able to run many years ago. There was a time when a 7 minute mile was quite easy for me. Now I'm struggling to reach an 8 minute pace going all out. I probably will never find 7 minutes easy again (I'm about 30 years older than I was then), but I do think I might be able to reach 7 minutes going all out.

Hello ImpulseEngine! Good luck with your attempt to shave a minute from each mile that you run! I found it very tiring just reading about the races you may take part in, and would probably collapse from exhaustion long before the end if i ran in one myself. LOL :'(
