I would do that if I let my dad drive :jawdrop:

There are some people who definitely don't need to behind the wheel, but somehow manage to maintain a license to drive. LOL.

Agreed, 24th! One thing that gets me is I'm the only one of us kids still here so I see dads driving. I tell my siblings about it and I get back that I don't know what I'm talking about or that dad has had a great driving record....past tense of course. And then I'm told that if I take dads keys away that I had best become his personal chauffeur. :: sigh :: Oh, well. Since Casey died I have decided that I'm going to give more responsibility of my dad and his care to my siblings. So far they are having their eyes opened, I think. And that's good! Okie, mini rant done :)

Turning some care over to your sibs is a good plan. I know from experience though that there is usually one (me in my case) person that is relied on more for what turns out to have been good reason.

I agree with Swidden, CO_F. Your siblings may stop taking you and/or the situation for granted now that they have to take on more of the responsibility of caring for your father.

It will be interesting now. Just read on fb that my sis-in-law and big brother want dad to go out there for my nephews high school graduation. Fly out. I'm going to point out that it would be best if one of them flew out here, came to dads, picked him up, took him to the airport, fly back to WV with them then after the graduation to fly back and bring dad back to his house and they can fly back home.

We can't go because that's our busy time in the fields. I could get dad to the airport and pick him up, but he really needs someone to be with him. He is 92, a high fall risk, refuses to use his walker &/or canes in public or even in the house because someone might think he needs them and he has had quite a few TIA's (mini-strokes). :: sigh :: we'll see how this goes over :chin:

^^ The double travel though, sounds expensive. Maybe financially that isn't feasible. I wonder if extra attention can be arranged with the airline for when he is on the plane? That way as long as someone is there to drop off and pick up, he will be okay.

Europe is having a cold snap at the moment with snow all over the continent.
Unfortunately people are dying which is very sad so i hope it starts to warm up soon.

That tends to happen unfortunately in areas especially when they aren't used to weather in one extreme direction or another.

Fortunately the weather is improving in the U.K. The snow is starting to melt away which i'm truly thankful for. :D
Eastern Europe and Russia are still suffering badly but any improvement in the weather is a good sign.

^^ The double travel though, sounds expensive. Maybe financially that isn't feasible. I wonder if extra attention can be arranged with the airline for when he is on the plane? That way as long as someone is there to drop off and pick up, he will be okay.
The problem is that he refuses to ask for help boarding and getting off the plane. Plus he has had lots of mini strokes and I'd hate for him to have one on the plane. Esp if it got bad enough that they would need to detour the plane and land enroute. I've taken dad to DIA and picked him up at DIA. My sisters pick him up at and take him back to SEATAC. Last time he flew I asked if I could help him board, but they said, "No." But I could watch him walk down the tunnel. He let go of the hand rail and wouldn't use his cane when he thought he was out of my sight. And his being 'of age' he can refuse the help and they can't force him to accept it for fear of a lawsuit.

Dad thinks he can do everything my 24 year old and 15 1/2 year old can do, but his body just can't do that. If that wasn't getting into our busy time of the year then one of us or all of us could go with dad, but we just can't take the time off. My siblings don't seem to realize that our crops just don't want to work with us that way LOL

Of course I see dad all the time, they see him once a year or once every two years. We're about 15 miles away, but still in the same county and state. I know I can bring up my concerns about this to them, but they won't listen or they'll tell me that I'm exagerating things or that I'm just seeing things and too dumb to know better. :: sigh :: Oh, well. I was going to tell my older sister to go for a ride with dad and let him drive her and that if she has no problem with his driving then I'll shut up about it. But when she was here last is when Casey died. But the next time she comes out I'll def tell her to go for a ride with dad  :: rubs hands together and does the evil laugh ::

I just worry about dad, but can't be with him 24/7 like my siblings seem to want me to be.

^ There needs to be an airline that caters to Senior citizens in particular. This would solve a lot of problems like that.

...and it does sound like your family needs a reality check with your father.

What? You never heard of getting up and actually waking five feet to the tv? There was a time, y'know...

Hello CO_Fowler. I just wanted to say that you have my sympathy.
I hope your father's health improves and you are able to work things out with your siblings.

Our family cat "Sophie" died eighteen months ago after developing a tumour.
Having her put to sleep was hard and it was a sad time. I like to think she is in a better place now.
Knowing we had given her a good life with lots of love helped lessen the blow at the end.

Yeah, when I had an analog and no satellite. :P

Have you ever tried changing the channel on your TV when it is hooked up to satellite? You get a blue screen or fuzzy screen. LOL.

I need my remote to operate the TV and the satellite. About the only thing I can do manually without messing something up is Power on/off and volume.
