My wife and I bought ourselves and early Christmas present. For about 15 years, we have had an old 27-inch old style TV. We've been drooling over the new flat screen types for several years now so we decided to forgo most other presents this year and we finally bought one! :wow: It's a 40 inch Sony Google TV.

I've been playing with it for the past few days and it's great! You can watch TV, surf the internet, do both (via picture-in-picture), or download Android apps and run those. We were going to hold it until Christmas, but then decided we should make sure it works properly before there are none left to exchange it with. Then it seemed silly to take it back down once it was set up.
That's awesome!

I went from an older TV to a flat screen this year too and it was a treat. Its amazing how light and flat the TVs are now.

Yeah I was surprised at how light the TV is. I struggle to lift my old one and expected the new one to be just as heavy or even heavier because the screen is so much bigger. I wasn't thinking about the fact that the whole CRT is missing and it's basically just the screen. What a difference.

LOL about your added spoiler. :D

Pretty wiped out. The last two weeks have been crazy: Anti-SOPA activism (calling, e-mailing, discussion groups, awareness drives), webinars on new and proposed copyright legislation, introductory HTML 5 and CSS 3 and looking into complaince certifications, getting lined up for a couple new ventures next year that'll mark a move from working for other people to working for myself-- again (fingers crossed), plus some independent projects apart for the "Big Ticket" ones. Two weeks of up @ 6am and to bed @3am. Better be worth it.
Whoa, 3 hours sleep for 2 weeks? I doubt I could even utter my name after that...

Well all the Anti-SOPA work comes to a head today. It's on the House Floor for debate. So long day watching debate live-streams.

Used to do it all the time. The trick is large amounts of coffee, cola, tea, and Monster energy drink and a wicked natural case of insomnia

Scooby, I love your new avatar! :)
Thanks! I'm actually considering driving out to the New York Macy's parade this year. We shall see..... I'd love to get my picture taken with that big Scooby-Doo balloon!

That would be cool. I've never been to the live Macy's parade, but I would love to go some time. (I wouldn't love the traffic though! :D )
I've never been to New York. I really want to visit someday. Watching the parade from a hotel would be fun too, like 24 said....

:woo:
Oddly enough,as much as I love Chicago, New York just turns me off. My folks are up that way a few times a year (dad a few times a month) and the horror stories about the traffic is enough to put me off going there. Chicago on the other hand: Already decided I'm retiring there-- and that's on one visit.
I'm not far from NYC and love it...it's a living creature all it's own.

Nothing like getting a high vantage point and watching the city go about itself...the people, the traffic, the aircraft, the sounds...

Our living room TV decided it had had a long and happy life and quit on us...and now that the Christmas spending is done, we'll have to wait for the Super Bowl deals to get a new one. Getting by with our bedroom TV in it's place...for now...

^ I hear ya there, SB! Our TV is on it's last legs, I fear. But so far it's still going :: knock on wood ::

So many expenses right now that a new TV just wouldn't be in the works for a while

You really realize how much the TV plays a part in your life when the living room TV goes out. It kind of stays on as background noise even when you aren't watching it.

Sad. We got a Christmas card from the 3rd grade and both teachers. They're standing in front of Casey's memorial tree and they all signed the back.

And we had a surprise. A group of women in town make up Christmas gift baskets and give them to families that have had a hard/bad/crappy year. It had a box of hot chocolate mix, 1 apple, 1 bag of hard cinnamon candy, 3 bags of peanut brittle, a homemade whoopie pie, a bag of caramel corn, a bag of chex mix, 3 bags of cookies ( one of them had a couple muffins ), 2 ornaments and a small loaf of poppyseed bread.

And the tag reads,
"You may never see us,
You may never hear us,
We want you to know
That there are people
that truly car.
We are near and are
keeping you in our
Thoughts and prayers.

The Basket Cases"

A friend on a grief fb page called them Earth Angles and I so agree <3

^^ Wow, that was pretty nice of them.

The world can be a not very nice place and then someone will surprise you with a gift of kindness. It sounds like your community has really been there for you since Casey's passing.
