That would be cool. I've never been to the live Macy's parade, but I would love to go some time. (I wouldn't love the traffic though! )

I would love to be at a hotel on the parade route. That way I can relax and watch from my window.

Hey 24 Achievement Night is something we do for our 4-Hers. It's a night where the end of the year awards are given, membership pins are given, having the Clover Buds ( kids between the age of 5 and 7 join this, it's a pre 4-H club ) be recognized, honoring the businesses and other adults that give a lot of support to 4-H, recognizing the leaders and the years they have been working as leaders and letting the kids that did their Career Portfolios get them back as well as any award they may have earned with that. They used to be called 'Record Books' and the 4-Hers put in things like what they learned, what they do outside of 4-H, what leadership things they may have done ( both in 4-H and otherwise ) and we all have a good potluck meal, fellowship and the kids also get their premium money from the fair board for their ribbons they earned at fair. They had over 200 people there Sunday night. I wish we could have gone, but that is just too big a crowd for us right now. The other mom, a kind of Co-Leader, texted me that the 4-H Youth Cooridinator had to help her out since she got emotional reading the names of the kids in our club, Casey was a member. I told her that I would have cried, too and that I loved her for trying. Okie, I'm going to stop now and get a breather <3 |

And we're giving back to 5 groups that Casey enjoyed and loved <3 We got memorial money from people and are giving some to the local 4-H, his junior wrestling group, the schools FFA ( both big brothers were in it and Casey was really looking forward to when he could join! ), Ne High School Rodeo Assoc. ( again, both big brothers were/are in it and Casey was wanting to be just like his big brothers so much! ) and the Rodeo Bible Camp that our teen went to. Casey would have been old enough to go in a couple of years and he wanted to go with big brother so bad this last summer so we're making sure they get something too |

The Junior Wrestling club said they want to do a scholarship in Casey's name. It will go to one like Casey, the one with the most try and heart. One who may not be the best, but never gives up and has fun. That was our Casey! I've got a picture of him wrestling on my fb page, and he has such a big smile! Sure, he isn't winning, but he had fun out there! I always tell the boys before they get on the mat, "Wrestle hard, Wrestle smart, Wrestle clean and have fun!" I usually get funny looks from some other parents when I tell the boys to have fun.

That's because there are a lot of parents out there who are only interested in seeing their children win, win, win. Who cares if the kid is not enjoying the experience. I just took a look at the wrestling photo. Very wiry.

I've never been to New York. I really want to visit someday. Watching the parade from a hotel would be fun too, like 24 said....

Oddly enough,as much as I love Chicago, New York just turns me off. My folks are up that way a few times a year (dad a few times a month) and the horror stories about the traffic is enough to put me off going there. Chicago on the other hand: Already decided I'm retiring there-- and that's on one visit. |

Hi Seer, I've heard that a lot about New York, that many people are put off. I'm not sure about living there, but it seems like a super fun city to visit, at least one time. I want to see the Statue of Liberty in person. But I've also been to Chicago many times, and although the traffic is very bad during rush hour, that city is also loads of fun and you can't beat all the culture and history there. I personally would love to retire in Hawaii. I love the tropically climates. Go figure why I live in Detroit! LOL! |

I've visited New York for the day to go see a play and I've driven through that area several times. I would never want to live in NY full time. Way too crowded and claustrophobic feeling. Down on the street, I felt like I couldn't even see the sky. Street traffic and auto traffic was zoo-like. Nope, wouldn't want to live there year round. I wouldn't mind an occasional touristy visit. That I can handle. I would love to go at Christmas time one year too. I would love to visit Chicago sometime too. It seems a little more relaxed than NY. |

I was up Chicago in '01 for our wedding reception (hosted by the st.com members of the time) and it was an amazing city. Some of the best food I'd eaten, nice people, wish i had more time to check out some of the bookshops up. About a block (?) from the Hancock Tower was a toy store with a life size Lego Vader and Artoo. Need to get my photos out and scan them one day. |

My teen and I have been to the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. My oldest and I went to Ellis Island and the Liberty Island, but we didn't get off the ferry there. My oldest is more into Ellis Island and my teen is more into the Statue of Liberty. DS#2 ( Darling Son ) and I got to go up to the pedestal just below the statue. It was pretty cool! 4th of July and watching the boats and jet skis on the Hudson, Then we went to Hoboken and watched the Macy's fireworks. That was petty cool, too I wish now that I had taken Casey with us as he would have loved those fireworks <3 And he would have totally loved the Liberty Science Center!Never did get to New York, but we could see it from the New Jersey side. My Aunt lived not too far from the Empire State Building. I would have loved to have gotten over there, but it just didn't work out either time. Edited by CO_Fowler, Nov 10 2011, 01:42 AM.

They are so cool!! With my oldest, we got to really go through most of Ellis Island, but there was still so much more to see. We both agree that you would need at the least a full day to explore it and more than that would be best. We got there about noon so we didn't have a lot of extra time. That was why we didn't get off the ferry at Liberty Island. With my teen, I did take him to Ellis Island and showed him some of the highlights, like the great hall. That is such a cool place to see!! But we spent more time at Liberty Island. It was so cool to get into the pedestal and see the museum there. The original torch was pretty cool And once we got up to the top pedestal they have yellow squares and yellow rectangles where you stand and look up.....right up into the statue itself! We couldn't get the Crown tickets, but I think my teen liked getting up that close. They were having a blimp race with three blimps that afternoon. We both mentioned that Casey would have loved to see them!God! I wish I had known that he wasn't going to be with us long. I was hoping to take him out that way when he got older. If I had only known then what I know now.....I would have made sure to take him with us last summer I keep telling myself that he was with his two fave people......dad and big brother #1. And that he had them all to himself, too :: sad smile :: |
