Got a "new" computer today - really it's used, but new to my household. We had another computer that was old and the power supply died. Rather than pay the $60 for a replacement power supply, we put that money toward a better refurbished computer for $150. The refurbished computer also came with a flat screen monitor which we didn't previously have. It's the secondary computer in our household so we didn't want to spend much on something fancier. I've been trying to get it set up, but it kept freezing. After a few hours of trying this and that and running diagnostics, I traced it down to my wireless network adapter. But it worked fine in the old computer so it didn't make sense. Then I remembered having this issue a couple of years ago when I tried to upgrade the driver on the old computer. I had to go back to an earlier driver. So I tried that on this new computer and, viola! Everything seems to be working now. ![]() However, until I'm positive this refurbished computer is ok, I'm not installing much on it. So, while I usually use Firefox, I'm currently using Internet Explorer. The first thing I noticed when I just came here is all the ads! I never knew they were there because of the adblock plugin that I use with Firefox.

Hey, that's a great deal for the computer! I know what you mean about the ads. I went months without using Internet Explorer, then had to for various reasons over the last month or so and I was so thankful when I could go back to just using FF. Its a bit of a shock when you see them again. I'm very grateful that ZetaBoards is free on the user end, but there are more Google ads on ZetaBoards than on Invisionfree. A lot of them gave me a fit when I used to use IE too. IE and Flash must be mortal enemies. It got so bad that I could barely load this site at one point (because of the Ads). I eventually switched to FF and have never wanted to look back. I am able to browse the net now with very few display problems. I still see the occasional ad on this board and other ZetaBoards, but they are ZetaBoards ads and I suspect are designed to bypass FF Adblock. Which is fine. I never really minded the occasional still advertisement to help pay for this board through ad revenue. |

Ah, the usual hate of IE. ![]() It really is a very buggy and stupid browser. I was on it, but switched to Chrome. Never want to change the browser again.

I used to defend the use of Internet Explorer*, but I could no longer do so as a personal choice for browsers due to the many difficulties I began having with each and every IE upgrade. *There is a lot of snobbery against IE amongst developers/coders. It has on occasion made it very difficult to get a solution on technical issues involving ZetaBoards. Oftentimes the only solution given was to "switch browsers". I did and still don't find that to be a legitimate way for coders/developers to approach the situation when so many people still use IE. |

Yeah, actually, most of the codes and themes on ZB don't work in IE. |

Now my feet are starting to hurt. And that is after 26 hours of standing, I can't imagine how my feet would feel if I had made it all 56 hours!

Earlier this week my nephew's Little League team won the Minors/AAA (The Giants) championship for their league. Today was their first Tournament of Champions game for their region. They won 10-2 against another team with the same name. |

Yeah I see an occasional ad with FF and Adblock too. I think that's partly why I forgot that some were being hidden and why it was so surprising when I used IE. I recently learned my lesson the hard way about IE though. (If I already mentioned this here before, sorry - I can't remember if I did.) I was simply browsing for information about a telephone system error that we were experiencing at work a few weeks ago and I went to a page that was all text, no pictures, and somehow I picked up a virus. I can usually tell when I hit viruses/spyware/malware and I can usually minimize the amount of damage it does, but this time I had no clue. There were no signs until it had killed my system. I ended up having to wipe my hard drive and reinstall the whole thing. I normally browse with FF, but that day I was in IE for some reason. The one time I used it again and I got one of the worst viruses I've ever had! |

I'm sure Chrome is good, but I'm paranoid about Google. Google has way too much information about everyone's browsing habits already and I can't help but think that Chrome probably gives them even more information. And, if you have gmail, then there's even more information they have access to. |

I definitely recommend switching. The problem, IMO, isn't so much IE itself, but that it's the most widespread browser and therefore the most targeted by malicious programs. The vulnerabilities is what has gotten many people turned off to it and why a lot of coders now code for other browsers. That, in turn, then makes more and more websites not work so well with IE. |
