Hi again, all. I was absent from these boards for a couple of weeks. Life just got busy again. Did a couple of volunteer projects and then ...

I adopted another cat. Saw a listing on Craigslist about an older cat needing a new home because of allergy issues. I figured out house was big enough. So 2 weekends ago I brought home a small orange tabby whom I have renamed Kira:

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Cats/100_5968.jpg

Unfortunately, meeting my existing 2 kitties has not gone well. They are both much larger cats than Kira, so I believe they frightened her, even though they are not aggressive. I think it was one of those things where the smaller cat felt like she needed to act like a big bully so that the other 2 would be intimidated by her before they could gang up ... and it worked exceedingly well.

Kira sure lived up to her namesake ... small in stature, but a real scrapper and tough gal. Not exactly what I had intended ... I had intended to provide my calico Dax a playmate.

I've had to separate them in different rooms and try to slowly re-introduce them just a little bit at a time. I've had to devote a lot of my home time lately to reassuring 3 kitties that we can all learn how to live together peacefully here without any need for charging and hissing. So if I'm not around much on the boards, I'm just trying to be a good cat mom and smooth the ruffled fur.

Cute cat! Hopefully she will settle in and get used to the other cats. It can't be easy for her having to get used to a new home/family....especially with her being an older cat.

Hey 24,

Just thought I'd check in and see if the wild weather back there has been a cause for concern for you and yours.

Hey Swidden! We've had some odd rain and strong wind, but nothing too terrible for us. There have been reports of tornado activity close by though.

Today it will be clear skies, warm in the 70s. So we're good for today.

24, good to know that nasty weather didn't give you much grief.

Hey, all, I'm going to shamelessly promote an Earth Day contest at work that I have entered. Our workplace has asked employees to create a video or slideshow posted on YouTube about the things we do to help Mother Earth and our environmental activism. The winner is the video that gets the most views this coming week (Earth Day is April 22).
So I'll ask for one minute and 5 seconds of your time to give a quick view of this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1tQeyO5xlA

The winning video-maker will get a prize plus a charitable donation from our company to the organization of their choice.
I'm kind of a late entry into the contest, so I'm already several hundred views behind. Maybe you could check it out twice, or maybe more, pretty please? :askfor: :askfor: :askfor:
(I've never made a video or posted anything on YouTube before, so be gentle with the critiques -- I'm a newbie).
This will also give you an idea of the stuff I spend a lot of my summer doing.
Thanks!

So the contest is based on number of views?

No problem.

Goes off to watch the video until I pass out at the computer...

Edit: I've watched it three times so far, and the number of views hasn't changed. I'll wait to see if it updates.

Btw, I sent you a PM about a change to the Blogosphere.

I'll try to click on it once or twice a day for the next few days TM. And I think the video quality is fine. Good luck!

Well, the view number has definitely gone up since last night. Maybe it takes a little while before the view number updates.

Edit: It just updated again!

I read on YouTube that if one IP address clicks on the video frequently within a certain time period, their counting software freezes the count. That answers that question about it not updating as much as some of us think it should.

And thanks for the help on that project. Now that the # of YouTube views has given us our finalists in the contest, we get to vote on a site called SurveyMonkey.

If you go to this link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1tQeyO5xlA&feature=BFa&list=PL0A23ED4D78C950FC&index=5
You can see all the finalist videos involved in the contest.

Then, the next step is to vote at this link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/my_echo_story_contest

Voting will be tallied at 10:00AM Mountain Time this Friday. And apparently there is no limit on how frequently you can vote through this site. (That seems a bit odd to me).
Anyway, the top 3 will be awarded $$ donations from our employer to the environmental non-profit of our choice. I'm hoping to get a donation for the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, who guided us last year (and will again this year) in our trail maintenance work.
Any voting that you have time for will be greatly appreciated.

LOL. This thread will never be lost. :D

Its actually the oldest on-going thread around. I started it back in 2006 when KOT first opened.

Anyway, how's it going Nimor? :D

Please send some of that rain my way. We're in a drought, and every time the wind blows from the west, it looks like the Dustbowl around my house (there's a big empty field across the road, and I'm getting a lot of their topsoil).

Meanwhile, on to other news of the day:
What an exciting day -- the Quandary Peak/SSV trail maintenance slideshow video took first place in the video contest! :happydance:  :yippee: :happyclap:
That means that the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative will receive a $1000 check from Vail Resorts.
A very huge THANK YOU to everyone who voted in the Echo Earth Day video contest. :highfive:
My workplace warehouse echoed (literally, and pun intended) with a resounding whoop when I opened the announcement email.
I was so excited at the news that I immediately emailed the guys at the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative to share the good news.
Greg (field program manager) and Lloyd (executive director) both wrote back right away; they sounded absolutely thrilled and tremendously grateful!
This $1000 donation will go so far in helping with this summer’s programs to maintain Quandary Peak and Colorado’s other 53 “14ers” as well.
I’m so extremely pleased that my company can help this organization with a donation (if only we could help ALL the worthy causes out there).
That generosity will be appreciated by many folks, including the estimated 500,000 hikers that use those trails each year.
So thank you again to everyone who voted for the Quandary video and made this wonderful thing happen!
And thank you to those of you who networked all your friends into this as well; please pass on the gratitude.
You’re all now officially what we hikers call “trail angels,” creating “trail magic” for the many others that use the trails.
