Winter weather has finally descended upon Denver. We had some snow for New Year's and we're getting some more today & tomorrow. Actually, we're so badly in need of the moisture that I'm not going to complain much about what it does for driving. 24, you're getting hit pretty well with some winter weather, too, aren't you? |

Yep. Actually, we are supposed to get everything from snow, sleet and freezing rain from the Monday into Tuesday. I'm hoping more snow than ice. The ice has a tendency to knock the power out. |

I don't know why I haven't done this before, but I just started looking up people that I went to the same high school with (on Facebook). Its been pretty easy finding these people due to all of the Friend links. Its weird seeing all of these people that I haven't seen in so long. I probably wouldn't recognize half of them if I saw them on the street. I just came across an a-hole who used to pick on me in grade school. He looks good, like a movie star....figures. ![]() Just found an old neighbor... Make that two old neighbors.. Ohh, and a guy I used to have a crush on. He's a Minister now, married with two kids... I dodged a bullet on that one... ![]() Edit |

The snow arrived over night. Looks to be about three inches already and it is still snowing now. We're supposed to get a good bit all day. |

No snow here, but we are having some of our coldest weather yet. Balmy compared to some places but we can barely hit 50 it seems. Wet weather forecast later this week could leave a dusting of snow on local mountains if it remains cold and the snow levels are low enough. |

We got a decent amount of snow 4 - 6 inches. We got a layer of hard ice over the snow though. The roads are kind of dicey right now. |

Cats really love it when you rub their ears. I'm thinking there might be a connection between cats and Ferengi. What do you think?

Kitty Oomox! House cats do seem to enjoy the "profits" of life without ever having to work for them. Getting food, toys, and soft warm places to sleep are all a good return on just a little expenditure of affection now & then. |

OMG, I think I'm in heaven .... someone is actually close to marketing a concentrated beer that can be taken backpacking: http://www.patsbcb.com/beer.html The main dilemma was always how to remove the bulk & weight of the water from beer once it was made. This guy approached it from the other direction ... what if you can make beer without so much water in the first place? Then you just add water later. It's not yet ready for full-scale marketing, but I'm getting on the mailing list so I'll know when I can get it. I can't tell you how good a beer would taste after walking 10 or 15 miles a day under a pack. |

![]() I looked at their soda section because I don't drink beer, and it appears they take out all of the good things that make soda taste good in the first place. I'd be willing to give it a shot though. From the looks of it, it is going to end up tasting like fizzy water (lightly flavored). What I've been doing is drinking water with flavored powders + packet of sweetner. This helps me cut back a bit on the regular soda. Crystal Light was one of the first brands to make these years ago, but now they are all the rage. I use the Hawaiian punch brand and the Wal-mart brand of Crystal Light. For some reason, Crystal Light does not taste as good to me despite it being the more expensive alternative. I just did a quick search for a brand so you will know what I'm talking about... Powdered Drinks |

Yeah, those are always good options for some flavor variety. Powdered drink mixes don't weigh much and thus are a good deal for a "treat" when backpacking (drinking only water for a few days in a row can get pretty dull). But I sure have heard a lot of hikers saying, "Man, a cold beer would really taste great right now!" I'd like to give the stuff a test-run at home first before committing to carrying it for a few miles and then trying it. |

So there is going to be a lot of taste testing involved?

I had just finished watching the episode where he goes to St. Petersburg, Russia. He always adds that saying at the end of the episode.

I don't know how health professionals do it day in and day out, but when I walk into a hospital I just feel like I am inhaling germified air. Like the air is thick with it. I can’t eat or drink anything there without thinking about what I am potentially ingesting. Its really the only place I experience this. Good thing I don't have to go very often. |

No, I was in one earlier this week. Mom had cataract surgery. I'll have to go back with her again soon to have the other eye taken care of. |

We've had some unusually warm weather for January. In the 60s yesterday and today. We even opened windows. |
