No, its not on Main Street. Or really any other major retail area. In fact, it is in the section of town that is largely relegated to warehouses and produce shipping. From what I understand, it is likely he will get to do it following a hearing with the local planning commission. It just goes to show that in some places just the image of a gun is controversial.

Maybe the next time a billboard goes up promoting some violent action flick I will have to anonymously drop a bug in the ear of those same people and tell them that it is far more likely to resonate with gangs than an old apple label.

Sounds like a plan...

On another tangent about silly censorship:

I just went to a book signing this past week by my favorite author (Rita Mae Brown), and she lamented the fact that she had just read a newspaper article about a teacher getting censured by the local school board (wherever it was) for correcting a test paper in red ink. Apparently red ink now has the power to make children feel devalued and harm their self-esteem.

Dear heavens, how did I ever survive elementary school with an intact ego?

I've seen bits over the last few years too about the red ink issue. The school systems are getting crazy. But I have no doubt in my mind that most of this type of thing is a direct result of a parent or group causing a fuss in the past (about the ink or any other controversial issue). The schools are becoming too hypersensitive now unfortunately.

I saw the new Geico commercial last night. It was pretty funny.

The Geico guy asked something like, "Could switching to Geico Insurance save you 15%...?"

Then he says, "Could woodchucks chuck wood?"

The commercial cuts to this wooded area with a pond (cabin in the background). A bunch of woodchucks are chucking wood into the pond. A guy rolls up and shouts at the woodchucks...

"Hey, you dang woodchucks. Quit chucking my wood." :rotfl:

Guess you had to see it. :P

I'm sure I'll see that soon enough. I was wondering what they'd come up with next after the Little Piggy going "Wee" all the way home.

That one is funny too. The piglet gets a little annoying if he squeals too long though.

So, 24, given the news reports I have been following...

Has it been wet enough for ya?

Anybody that looks like this been hanging around spouting off in Shakespearean diction?

Its been raining off and on for the past few days. It finally cleared up today. No rain this weekend. The temperatures have dropped a good bit lately too. Low 40s/50s High 60s/low 70s. I've really felt the chill in the air at times for the past week or two.

Thorrrrr!

I haven't seen him around lately, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing him at the theater next May (2011).

Coincidentally, my key chain is that of Thor's Hammer with a wolf head (silver). It looks a lot like... the pendant fourth up from the bottom.

Just want to take a moment to say see ya' in case I don't get chance to before I leave for Europe in a few days. I'll be back in about two weeks, though how much work piles up while I'm gone could make it hard to find time to post.

Ironically, just as I am about to head for Europe, today I read that State is about to issue a traveler's advisory for Europe. Go figure...

"Home again, home again jiggety jig..." *

I have to say that driving in Ireland takes a bit of getting used to. Not so much the other side of the road bit, but the fact that most roads are about 2/3's the width of the ones we're used to and the posted speed limits are about 60 mph (100 kmh) most of the time.

Took delivery of the wife's new car... Now just have to wait 6 weeks for it to catch up to us! Cool thing is it will come with European license plates that she will get to keep as a souvenir. Gothenburg, Sweden is a nice city. Surprised the heck out of me just many there actually had a command of idiomatic English (i.e. a waiter who walked up to us and literally said "Hey guys, what can I get for ya?"). I was told that it was common, but I expected it to be more formal. Instead many there could speak it with fully laced with common English euphemisms. I might exchange a few pleasantries with them in Swedish, but once they new I wasn't conversant (probably bad pronunciation would have been the first hint!) they would switch right over to English without batting an eye.

Little Swidden handled the traveling like a champ. Every flight was a new adventure for him. Not one bit scared. Funniest thing though was when we first arrived he wanted to know when his uncle that had dropped us at the airport in San Francisco was coming to pick us up!

I'll see what I can do to post some pix.

*: Bonus if anyone can tell me what science fiction movie used that line (not original to the film).

Swidden! :excitedtoseeyou:

Glad you and your family had a great trip! You never know how kids will react to new circumstances. It sounds like he will be adventurous one as he grows up.

We'll look forward to some pictures. Especially of Ireland. I don't think I would be very comfortable trying to drive on the other side of the car or road. Let alone on the narrow roads. I suppose you get used to it though.

I've always wanted to go to Sweden too.

*Not sure about the jiggety jig line. I bet TribbleMom knows about it, so hold off on an answer. :D

I kind of think he will be, too. So far he doesn't show signs of being reckless, but he is a very curious kid. Always a good start, I think.

Oh, that darned Alzheimer's ... can't think of the movie that "jiggety jig" line came from. Know I've heard it ... :headscratch: 24, if you know it, go ahead.

Swidden, glad you had a great trip. I look forward to your pics. Is Ireland really as green as everyone says it is?
