^^^ You haven't heard of Thomas? Anthropomorphic steam train and his friends. Based on a series of books written by a British minister about 60 years ago. First appeared on PBS in late 80's/early 90's under the title of "The Shining Time Station" featured Ringo Starr as "The Conductor", replaced by George Carlin. Alec Baldwin played the character in a movie version... http://www.thomasandfriends.com/ |

I find it interesting that cats have three eyelids. When they are falling asleep (eyes slightly open) you can see the third eyelid slowly moving out from the corner of their eye and over the eye. |

So apparently the Adam Sandler move, "Mr. Deeds" (2002) is a remake of "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" (1936). Who knew? Are there no original ideas in Hollywood anymore? (rhetorical question )

Rhetorical answer: Nope, it doesn't seem that way. Same can be said for a whole lot of TV programming. |

I hear ya girl... I got to pet a rabbit yesterday. He's really cute. The neighbors were out of town and asked if my brother and s-i-law would take care of their pets. The rabbit has its own condo/pin in the backyard. When we first approached it, it got scared and ran upstairs to the top portion of its condo. It has a plexiglass window that it was looking at us through. We talked and called it for a minute or so. It slowly relaxed and came out for a visit and to get its food.

^^^ Aaawwwww ... I see a lot of rabbits when I walk around our area. Wish I could pet them. They look so soft and cuddly. Changing topics abruptly: Would you believe we had snow again in Denver Tuesday night? Seriously ... the middle of May, and we're still having winter. Had to cover my newly-planted columbine flowers with buckets and hope for the best. I swear this year it will be the end of June before I can or or to commute to work.

Hey TribbleMom, good to see you! ![]() We practically skipped Spring and went straight into Summer here. Its been hot and humid. I think this is going to be one long hot summer if Spring is an indicator. We are growing a bunch of vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, radishes, carrots...). Not in the ground, but in planting pots and those tomato topsy turvys. I don't think we have to worry about cold weather anymore now. |

I had to take my mom to the hospital to have an out patient procedure today (colonoscopy). I'm waiting right now for the procedure to conclude. The "Medi Pass" thing they gave me will blink when she is out of surgery. It shouldn't be much longer. The paperwork (computer work) probably took longer than the actual procedure (supposed to take 45 minutes). When did hospitals start looking like hotels? We came into the out patient area to check in and the lobby looks like a large hotel lobby. Classical music playing. Large expansive sitting areas (nice chairs and such). Reception desks and help desks lined down "the lobby". Their desks are large wood crafted multiple people sitting desks. Large flat screen tvs for viewing in different sections. A computer access area (where I am now). The lady at the help desk, was like "we offer complimentary coffee...the coffee is over there." Sitting there at first before we got my mom checked in, I seriously had a Twilight Zone moment with the classical music playing in the background. ![]() This hospital that we had to go to is somewhat in an affluent area. Must be why it is built like a hotel. Every other hosptial I've been in was less hotel like. |

24, hope the report on your mom came out OK. That's a wise screening procedure to have ... it's saved a lot of lives. I'm due to have one later on this fall or winter. As for hospitals looking like posh hotels, I agree. The one I went to for my hysterectomy a couple years ago was the same way. Not only was there music playing in the lobby, it was a live pianist. I think the new thinking is to try to make everyone more relaxed to be condicive to healing and less stress. Looks like a busy time coming up for me for about the next 5 or 6 weeks. I'm not leaving the boards, but I may not get here much. This weekend I'm taking my mom on a mini-trip overnight just to get a change of scenery. Next weekend may possibly be a camping trip, if the weather remains on a warming trend. First weekend of June is some trail maintenance for National Trails Day, and then the next 2 weekends (hopefully) I'll be hiking a couple more segments of the Colorado Trail, followed by more trail maintenance at the end of this month. |

The camping trip over Memorial Day weekend was, I think, the first time we had camped in that campground and it never rained on us once. That was quite unusual. We did have a bit more wind than I cared for. A cold front came through Saturday night, so we kept a fire burning all Sunday, and Sunday night was pretty cold. I ended up huddled deep down in the sleeping bag to stay warm. But it was a wonderful time visiting with our old camping buddies. This past weekend was National Trails Day. I helped out at a nearby state park, mostly pulling invasive noxious weeds and trimming back small saplings encroaching on the sides of the trails. Fortunately I knew to expect poison ivy in that terrain and wore long pants; probably saved myself a big rash on my legs. However, the rattlesnake wasn't very happy when my group inadvertantly woke him up. Thankfully, he just rattled at us and never struck out. Boy, did that ever get my adrenaline going! The rattlesnakes seem to be pretty prolific in the region this spring. Now I'm hoping for good enough weather the next 2 weekends so I can hike a couple more segments of the Colorado Trail. Weather forecast is predicting some rain; we'll see what they say by Friday. Then on the 30th, I'll be in the high country doing trail maintenance on one of this state's 14,000-foot peaks. It's our workplace's community service project for the summer. One other woman from my workplace and I decided to take an extra day off and camp in the area to hike a different 14er the next day (depending on weather). We also have baseball season going on now for the 2 grandsons. Since we're skipping the away games, we only have 3 per week to attend at the home field. Seems like summer is a very busy time! Everyone keep well and take care! |

Hey TribbleMom! I never understood why there were so many games in Baseball (in a season). It especially seems a bit excessive to have that many games in one week for younger leagues. |

The bigger the hospital or the ritzier the area the more likely that is to be the case. When Mrs. Swidden's late grandfather was going up to Stanford to deal with his cancer I thought the same about their waiting area. When I compare that to our local facility, well, let's just say it's not as comfortable. |

I've wondered about that, too. Baseball always has way more games per week than football, for example. It works out to 2 games per week per boy - -individually, not that bad, but since they're of different ages in different leagues, that equals 4 different days per week. Fortunately grandmas aren't required to attend ALL of them. I was hoping to hit the trails this weekend, but a cold front is not cooperating. Last evening brought heavy rains and hail and a few small funnel clouds. (Last night's baseball game got rained out in the 3rd inning). Today continues to look rainy all day long, only about 48 degrees right now. And the front is not expected to move out yet tomorrow either, but we'll see what the meteorologists say this evening. Maybe I can still get in a soggy hike tomorrow. I'm trying to get some more progress made on the next segment of the Colorado Trail. Wanted to do that in May, but it snowed then. Perhaps rain is an improvement. The bad weather is all my fault, really. Knowing that this portion of the trail goes through an area that experienced a forest fire in the late 90's, I knew there would be little shade, so I was hoping that the temps would not be blazing hot for the hike. Silly me ... I forget that the Universe has a sick sense of humor and gives you the things you ask for in weird ways. It's certainly not blazing hot, but I forgot to specify that I just wanted mild temps and a few clouds, not heavy thunderstorms. We've had some very hot temps recently (90's) and a lot of snow is melting in the mountains. Actually causing some river flooding in places, and the heavy rain is adding to that. |

We have had some pretty bad thunderstorms lately. We had one yesterday and it knocked out our power for half a day. It was almost midnight before we got power back. It was so hot yesterday too. We eventually pulled out the generator to plug the freezer up, a fan or two and the TV. ![]() Everything seems to get so disorganized when the power goes out. Takes hours to put things back together. It was looking like another storm was going to happen here earlier, but thankfully it passed us by. |
