So what's shakin' with everyone these days?

Me, I'm looking forward to my next home-improvement project -- insulating and drywalling the north wall of our garage. What fun, huh? Yeah, I know we should've done that at the beginning of winter rather than at the end of winter, but we had to spread out the costs of our various home improvements, and some other projects seemed more important at the time. At least we can still qualify this year for the tax credit. Want to get the insulating done before the weather turns hot.

After that, we'll focus on getting our tiny little lawn started out right this spring. Couldn't do that last year, as we didn't move in until the end of June. Maybe this year, we can beat the crabgrass by doing proper springtime lawncare. Looking into organic fertilizers now that I've established my backyard as a bird-feeding zone. The cats enjoy watching the birds as much as I do. :cat:

After that, TribbleMom wants to go play on the trails all summer. :hiking: :campfire: Kind of missed out on that last year. In addition to some trail maintenance crews, I hope to bag a couple more 14er peaks and continue walking more segments of the Colorado Trail.

What's everyone else doing this spring? Anyone celebrating St. Patrick's? Tomorrow there's a small local event -- someone singing Irish songs and telling the stories about how and why they were written. And today is supposed to be sunny & warm, so I think I'll get out my bicycle and find out where a nearby bike path leads to. :ridebike:

Hey there TribbleMom! Its good to see you! The weather has been a bit iffy lately with the on again/off again rain, but will be pretty today.

I just put Sunday lunch on and baked three pies. Two sweet potato and one coconut pie! :mmmgood:

I don't bake a lot like that usually, but everyone has been yacking about pies they have been craving lately. So I went ahead and made a few.

I hope your home repairs go well! Some home repairs are very costly, so it makes a whole lot of sense to spread the cost out when necessary.

My St. Patrick's Day celebrating will be limited to my avatar most likely.

I plan to start walking out in the neighborhood now that the Spring weather is on its way. Its been pretty warm here actually. Up into the high 70s. Spring is coming early in my neck of the woods.

Well, 2 days ago we were all walking around in T-shirts in near-70 degree temps and sunshine. Yesterday we got 6 inches of snow (winter's last hurrah, I hope). Tomorrow is supposed to be back into the 50's. You gotta love springtime in the Rockies ... there's so much variety. But I'm really ready for warm sunshine again.

Today is the great insulating-the-garage project. We got all the insulation and drywall when the weather was nice, fortunately. Today the roads are all icy, so it's a good day to stay home doing projects anyway. I bet I'll be sore tomorrow.

At least I got my first lawn pre-emergent weed treatment spread before the snow hit -- now the melting snow can water it in for me.

So, 24, how's the springtime walking going?

Thanks for asking ... the project actually went quite well. Our 13-year-old grandson came over to be an extra set of hands, which we appreciated a great deal. There was only one window to work around, so it didn't require very much cutting and fitting. We're certainly not pros, but it's a good enough job for a garage. We haven't yet decided if we'll ever tape & spackle & paint everything out there. A nicely-painted garage isn't yet high on my priority list when we still have other things in mind for our money (and it looks like our old TV will probably croak sometime this year).

Oh, and it snowed again Tuesday night & Wednesday (about 12"), rained on Friday. Yesterday was cool and very windy, but today is supposed to be sunny and about 50 degrees. We're supposed to hit the 70's for a few days starting Monday. Spring is so variable here.

And 24, you get out there and start walking, even if it's just a short walk. :whip:

I'm thinking about it. I really am. :P

The weather is going to be really warm for the rest of the week during the day. Upper 70s -mid 80s.

So how goes it everyone?

Going to be a nice day here weather wise.

Animal Control was out casing the neighborhood yesterday. Someone must have called them. They just parked on the side of the road and waited to see if an animal would come by. Usually there are a lot of dogs out, but they were hunkering down yesterday. I went out in the front yard to keep the outdoor cat from going near the road. She was ready for a stroll across the road and into the woods right when the animal control van was parked visibly from the front door.

The thing about the neighborhood that I am in now, is that it straddles the county line. Our road is in one county and the connecting road is in another county. Most of the dogs that run around without leashes come from the road in the other county. The animal control that was here yesterday doesn't have jurisdiction there. But they could snag the animals if they walked up this road.

Hi all,

I'm just stopping by to say "hi" and let you know I'm still alive. I can hardly catch a minute break at work these days and I don't get on the internet much at home anymore. So that's why I haven't been around lately.

I finished rewatching Star Trek TOS and have now moved on to Stargate SG-1. I saw the original Stargate movie and have now watched about a season and a half of SG-1. It's a great series overall and I'm really enjoying it. A few things require a stretch of the imagination to buy into it, but it's mostly well done. The cast is great.

I hope all is well with everyone. :wave2:

Hey IE! Good to see you. :wave2:

We're slowly working our way through TOS too. I checked out Hulu recently to see what series they have available (all seasons). SG-1 is one of those available. I thought about starting that series too. It would be nice to watch it again someday from start to finish. Its nice when a series has that many seasons to watch...at least when it is a good series. :D

That's nice to know that SG-1 is available on Hulu. If a particular disc is unavailable for a time on Netflix (or if one arrives damaged), I won't have to wait to watch the next episodes. :D

Good to see you drop in again, IE. Like you, I find myself rather busy these days and running out of daylight and energy before I run out of things to do. "Play time" on the home computer doesn't happen all that often for me anymore.

I need to get out in our backyard today to put down some deterrent for whatever critters seem to be trying to dig to China. I think its some of our local rabbit population. I'm always looking for organic options, as I don't want to kill them, just want to discourage them from digging holes within our fenced area. I think I found something non-toxic that should deter them by its scent. Since I let our kitties out in the backyard, I want to discourage visits from other little critters who might bring in fleas. There has been documentation of Plague infestation in some of the prairie dog populations.

Meanwhile, with the lawn coming back to life this spring, I'm trying to keep up with the fertilization and weed control -- not always the easiest since we still have a lot of empty lots without proper lawns. We think of them as the tumbleweed factory lots. Next month I'll put in a few columbine flower plants and see how they do (they grow wild in the mountains, but may not fare as well here on the high plains with the hotter temps). They're my favorite flower.

And today we have a birthday party for the 8-year-old grandson. Next week, a party for the 1-year-old granddaughter. Busy, busy, busy...

We had our last yard sale on Saturday. What didn't sale, went to the Good Will. They must have thought they hit the mother load when we rolled up with a huge truck full of stuff and one car full of stuff. :D Nahh, not really. That location was super busy with cars going though the drive thru non-stop to drop off donations.

24, glad to hear you had a decent yard sale. Our weekend here is not looking so good for yard sales ... we've just had 3 days of rain (quite unusual for our semi-arid area), and it's cool and windy. The foothills and mountains got snow -- in some cases, about 2 feet of snow! :flake:
I may have to wait a couple of more weeks before I start hiking the Colorado Trail again.
Say, how's that walking coming along? :whip:

Don't you think that the series (even season 1) really does come across better and more well thought out than the film? For me SG-1 turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

We've done them and will probably do at least one more before we move to the new house.

Funny thing though, we started listing stuff on Craigslist and you can really get better prices than at garage and yard sales. Then older relatives started asking us to list their stuff after my wife told them how it was going. We are at a point where we are considering this as a "sideline" thing to generate recreational spending money...

I've been getting out some. I"ve also been playing with the dogs. Which is a workout unto itself. A lot of ball/toy throwing and fetching on my part too when they drop their toys half-way back through the yard. :dog:

We are trying Craigslist too for one item. We're not having much luck selling it though. We'll probably have to keep dropping the price.

Having to sell things for others might become a hindrance for you.

Right now. Not much, it's been a morning of Legos and Thomas the Tank Engine videos. Yes, my little guy has joined his first cult (we're so proud... :D :whistle2:  )
