I was watching a movie called The Island last night (was ok if you can overlook a few obvious impossibilities). But this one actor looked awfully familiar and I finally decided it must be John Billingsley. Upon looking into it, it was actually Ethan Phillips. It's funny how that Star Trek make-up can make it difficult to pinpoint who they are. (It's like the same thing that happened to me with the Borg Queen not too long ago in Attila. )
Its always fun discovering a Trek actor that way. :D

I didn't have to sign anything. She just asked for ID. I was dressed in sweat pants, t-shirt and hat, so she probably thought I was a lot younger than I am too. So that might have been a factor.
That's quite possible. Or you could just take it as a compliment on how young you look. :D

Regarding an ad banner when I logged in: What the hell is "Evony"?

I gather from the "play now" button it must be some kind of online game, but the imagery associated with it seems to be more in keeping with a porn site. First, we had repeated ads for "Geek 2 Geek", now this?

I’ve seen that banner and it certainly looks like those ladies are trying to sell something other than a basic strategy game. Its some kind of multi-player strategy game.

I did a little research and apparently they have been engaging in some deceptive and shoddy advertising to bypass filters on websites (including AdSense). The game doesn’t have a good reputation either.

When you see the ad, you can click on the link on the ad that says “Feedback – Ads by Google” to give your feedback on the relevance and appropriateness to this site. I’ve tried this before with some ads and the strategy doesn’t seem all that effective though.

If enough of you see the ad and find it inappropriate enough (let me know), I can contact the ZetaBoard people directly and see what they can do about it. I’ve seen them address issues with ads that cause technical and other issues when enough people have raised a concern.

Hmm, there have been a couple of name changes here recently. I almost thought I was on the wrong board. ;)

My name is for Halloween fun. I believe AmVet (General_Chang) wants AmVet to be his username from now on.

If anyone else wants to have a bit of Halloween name fun, then you can go to Preferences -> Change Username -> Input new username.

I’ll approve it through the next time I access the Admin Panel.

I'll change it back for you after Halloween.

I saw that ad too and thought the same thing. I clicked on the banner to see what their site had to say about it. It struck me as a game similar to "Second Life" where you assume an identity of your choosing and play that part in a virtual world. However, if this one is true to the ads, there is probably more going on in Evony than Second Life. (Although I have played neither so I'm just assuming Second Life doesn't have anything like that.) Interestingly enough, the Evony site didn't say a thing that sounds like what their ad is depicting.

:whew: I've known you too long as 24thcenstfan. I was having culture shock, so I'm glad it's temporary. :'( :D

Thanks, but I think I'll leave mine as is. :)

Its always a bit of a shock to me too when I alter my name on the board. For a split second, I'm like "who is that person?" I might have to change it back if I keep trying to log into the boards using my regular username.

Edit: I'm back!

I managed to get water in my ear in the shower this morning and now that ear is blocked. I have never had that happen before. It's quite annoying.

(What? Did you just say something...? ;) )

They say a drop of alcohol into the ear will help, but that never worked for me. But who knows...

Actually, the only thing that worked for me is wearing my hair up in a towl with the towl closed around my ears for a little while (especially after getting out of the shower). The light pressure of the towl around the ear eventually causes the water to drain.

You are lucky this happens to me like every other month; and I need to see the doctor at least once a year (this past year it was twice) to get the clog out. In fact the last time I saw the Doc both my ears where clogged because I had gone under water for a second. The clog was so bad that I couldn’t hear a thing. According to my doctor apparently my upper ear canals are smaller and at a funny angle compared to most people; making it very easy for them to get clogged.

24,
Thanks. I'm going to wait it out for a bit and see if it just goes away. If not, maybe I'll try the drop of alcohol, but somehow putting alcohol in my ear sounds a little risky so I'm not too eager to try that one. The towel doesn't sound too bad though.

Wow, that must really be a nuisance. I hope I don't end up having to go to the doctor just for this.

Edit: By the way, when you don't need to go to the doctor, does it just clear on its own or is there something you have found that helps?

No kidding.

That is a big pain, sorry you have to go through that Dante.

I just remembered. When my brother and I were real young, we apparently would get a lot of ear infections. My mother had the doctor implant tiny tubes in our ears to promote drainage. The tubes fell out on their own after about a year. I don't think we had any problems after that.

That might be something you can look into (if you haven't already). They may have a similar option for adults. That's if they still do that type of procedure.

My ear seems a bit less blocked today, but it's still not back to normal. I tried a few different things last night mostly from reading on the internet such as the alcohol drops that 24 mentioned, "swimmer's ear" drops that my wife already had, using a blow dryer to try drying out the ear, flushing with an ear syringe and warm water, sleeping on the ear and hoping it would drain overnight, creating a vacuum with the palm of your hand over the ear and gently pumping to try to dislodge the water, etc. Maybe some of that brought the improvement, but it seems nothing really worked to clear it. Since it did improve a bit, I'll give it another day before I think about going to the doctor.
