There's no doubt about it. That plus all the things that get added to the pile as quickly as some are taken away. It's funny you mentioned the part about the strength builder. At one point when I was first starting to get the 5 balls coordinated and could keep the pattern going somewhat, I had to keep moving lower and lower toward the floor. I knew I must not be throwing the balls high enough which was causing that, but I couldn't seem to do better. Then that problem just disappeared. I think I probably gained a little strength and that made the difference. Juggling is quite a work out. With all the throwing under legs, behind the back, twirling around while a ball is in the air, etc., I'm usually ready for a shower by the time I finish. ![]() As for airport security, the balls will be in my checked baggage. ![]() Thanks TribbleMom! It looks like I missed something while I've been away. Did you recently buy a new house? |

**I put asterisks in on a few words because I don't want the Google bots to catalogue me saying the name of that organization over and over. You'll be able to figure out what it is though. There is a company called 'k**' that specializes in information services. I only recently learned about this company by seeing a commercial for one of their new services that provides text answer services. The company isn't new apparently, but the service is. The new service is called 'k**k**'. When I saw the company name, I immediately thought of the nefarious K**. Why on Earth would they name their company after that organization or keep the name despite the name similarity? The company is NY based, but was formed a year after the fall of the SU. I checked their website, and they appear to be trying to capitalize off the former K** name by naming the people who will answer the questions... 'k** Sp-cial Ag-nts'. Hmmm.. or maybe pay homage. |

IE, yes, we did buy a new house and moved about 3 weeks ago. Been tremendously busy every since. Since it is a new house, we've had to do some projects that the builders don't normally do. For instance, the builder might install the shower tile and grout in the bathroom, but they don't seal it -- you have to do that, and it requires 2 coats of sealant followed by a 48-hour curing time. So immediately after the last box was unloaded into our garage, instead of beginning to unpack, we were in the shower stall with little bottles of sealant and tiny brushes going over every single line of grout just so we could take a shower in 2 days. There are also projects such as sealing the concrete drive & patio so that the elements won't break them down prematurely, and staining the wooden fence between us & the neighbors. Things are finally beginning to shape up, though. Anyway, that's the reason I haven't been on the boards much lately. Always something to do. And with fulltime work, a grandson in Little League ball games, etc., there usually isn't much time left for me to come here to chat. Today I happen to be off work on a vacation day. I spent the weekend doing some volunteer trail maintenance work on the Colorado Trail (I'll put up some pics in my blog section), and I had anticipated needing a rest day after that before returning to work. Glad I planned that, because it was pretty hard to get moving this morning. This was something I had signed up for back in April, way before I knew about a moving date, but I try to always honor my previously-made commitments. I'm glad I did the work, as I hope someday to start backpacking that trail, and I like to "give back" somehow when I use a trail. The Colorado Trail runs about 485 miles between Denver and Durango, divided into 28 segments with various entry/exit points so that you don't have to do it all at once. I don't know how long it will take me to do the trail, but it sounds like the scenery is well worth the effort. |

My goodness, I haven't been to the boards in several weeks ... and nobody else has posted in this forum??? So what's everyone up to these days? Summer is nearing its end ... in many cases, school has already started again for the kiddies. What fun stuff did you all do this summer? Anyone have anything great planned yet before the snow flies? I'm still involved in new-home projects. Staining the fences took up an entire weekend. Most of this weekend was spent sealing concrete on our front porch and back patio. We still have the driveway to do. Without those efforts, though, the materials tend to break down more quickly due to weathering, and replacing usually is more costly than preserving. And at last we've finally gotten all our blinds hung in all our windows (took a while for all the ordered parts to arrive). What a difference that makes in having a more "finished" feel to the house. We were also involved in attending Little League baseball games for a few weeks. Next Saturday, youth football leagues start up, and this time both grandsons will be playing. Should take up most all day Saturdays for a while. And I'm still squeezing in trips an hour up the road to see my Mom and help her with her household chores. Needless to say, there has been no time for my favorite summer passtime of hiking. Getting the house in shape was more of a priority at this time, and the mountains will still be there next summer. Sorry -- no new pretty mountain pictures in the blog this year. I have started bicycling to work like I had hoped to, at least when the weather reports are fair. It's doing great things for my thigh muscles and knees. I've been using a fairly inexpensive Schwinn mountain bike-style bicycle that we had let our grandson ride around the condo complex some time ago ... I think he tried to "catch air" over some curbs or speed bumps, because the back wheel is out of alignment and wobbles. Fortunately I can get really great discounts through work and have ordered a very nice "old lady" commuter bike. It'll probably feel like the difference between driving a Jeep and driving a Cadillac when I get it. I really haven't ridden a bike much in, say, 20 or so years. And it's true that you never really forget how. However, you can forget a few minor details ... like that it's a good idea to keep both hands on the handlebars when you haven't ridden much in that long a time. I did a really foolish thing last Thursday. Coming home, I was nearly to our driveway so I reached for the key-chain remote control garage door opener in my pocket. When I realized that I was still going a little fast to hit the lip over the driveway, I tried braking gently with just my left hand (the front wheel) while I was still getting my right hand out of my pocket. You know what happens when the front wheel of your bicycle slows and you still have momentum going at the back end? You kind of go over the handlebars. Thankfully I was not going full speed, but I did lose balance, fall, and scraped my left elbow with a nasty road rash. My left leg is also turning pretty colors in 3 place, but fortunately no injuries worse than that. Scrapes and scabs heal. (And, yes, I was indeed wearing a bike helmet). Glad that happend with the old bike before I got the new one. I think I'll feel more balanced on that new bike that I've ordered. So that's been my last month or so in a nutshell. What about all of you other Kotarians? |

Hi TribbleMom, glad things are moving along for you. ![]() I'm kind of surprised there has been so much for you to do on the house to get it prepared. Seems like a lot of that stuff should have been done by the previous owners. I know it was never lived in before, but the company that owned the home should have been responsible for a lot of those projects before they could sell the house. Unless they just advertised it at a much lower price to get by without having to do it.
Its mainly just been me, General Chang and Swidden on the boards lately (with the occasional stop by of another). We've done most of our discussion/general chatting on other threads. Anyway, good to see you. Hope all your home projects and your grandson's football playing goes well.

^^^ 24, I was rather surprised, too, at how much seems only half-done when a new house is built. To me, that just seems like a lot of cutting corners for the builders, but I guess it's standard practice. We worked on sealing the concrete in the driveway this weekend. Almost done, but not completely. Have to work around certain weather factors when applying that sealant (it shouldn't be applied in direct sunlight or when the temperature is over 80 degrees F). We're getting our window well covers made now; should be installed in about 2 weeks. I did finally get out on Saturday for a hike. Went back to Mount Evans, as that is the closest and most easily accessible mountain to Denver. Hiked up the steep northeast face this time (my 5th time hiking to the summit, each time by a different route). Got to see lots of mountain goats and some bighorn sheep (ewes & lambs). Maybe later this week I'll get some time to post some pics in the blog section. |

We have been a having a few mild to moderate earthquakes in our area since the wee hours of Sunday morning. The first was a 3.9 near Hollister/San Juan Bautista, then 3.6 today near Aromas and a 2.9 near Aromas about 30 minutes ago (too small to feel here)... We're about five weeks or so away from the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake of October 17, 1989. That was the one that interrupted the SF Giants/Oakland A' World Series and caused a section of the Bay Bridge to collapse. The current shakes are centered about 30 miles south of the '89 event... http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/122-37.htm |

The two larger ones, yes. They are pretty moderate sized shakes. The one in the we hours of Sunday morning wasa sharp enough jolt to wake us up. Earthquakes coming in swarms is not all that unusual and is not always judged to be a precursor to a larger shake. However, when you've been through a quake in the neighborhood of a 7, several shakes in a few days makes you start wonder what's up... |

It can be. Since you're in hurricane territory (though more inland if I recall) has your house ever really shuddered at the onslaught of hurricane force winds? If yes, then you probably get a bit of an idea of what an earthquake begins to feel like. Although, you probably don't get the slow rocking after a good initial shake. |

^ Some shuddering and rattling of windows, but from the sound of it probably not exactly like with an earthquake. Either way, we are all just along for the ride when mother nature decides to throw us a big hello.
