Thanks to both Intrepid and 24 for the compliments. I have not yet quite moved in to the new house, as we have not yet signed the closing papers and do not have the keys. However, we were able to return to the house to take measurements on the windows so that we can start finding window treatments (more $$ again). I'm also trying to brush up on my very meager knowledge of Feng Shui so that we don't get in there, put everything in place, and then find out that the furniture placement and all the accent colors used were totally drawing the wrong kind of energy. The entry has a wonderfully open, light, and airy feel, and we want to maintain that flow of energy into the house. At the present time, no one is living in either house to the north and south of us. However, the selling agent mentioned that the house to the north sold just after we made the purchasing agreement; a couple moving here from California. We had a real surprise this week when our insurance agent called us with the quote on the new homeowners premium rates. Apparently the house appraised at nearly twice the amount we're paying for it! The bad news is that means higher property taxes and insurance than we had expected; the good news is that as soon as we sign the papers, it's like getting instant equity. I'll also take this opportunity to most likely bid adieu for a couple of weeks. Not that I don't like you guys anymore or anything ... just there will be lots happening in a short time now. Summer baseball season has started for the 2 grandsons, so there are a couple of games a week to attend. Closing day on the house is June 26, and we will start moving things as soon as we have the keys. The big moving truck is coming on Saturday June 27 for the big furniture, but there is so much we can accomplish Friday afternoon and evening (lining the kitchen shelves so they're ready for us to unpack the dishes, moving those oddball things like houseplants, etc.). The kitties will move over Friday night, too, so that they can sniff around before the really big chaos hits on Saturday (we'll shut them in the spare guest room until the movers are done going in & out the doors). I also have yet to contact my magazine subscriptions, credit card companies, bank, etc., for my change of address. With all that going on, I probably won't be dropping in here to the forums until some of the moving dust settles. So y'all take care, and I'll see you again soon.

^^ Sounds like busy times are ahead for you. Have fun moving! We'll see you when you get settled in!
That's at least a bonus. That's pretty awesome that your home appraised for almost double what you are paying. If for some unforeseen reason y'all ever have to move again, you could in theory make a decent profit. That's if the housing market is stable. |

Hey GC! ![]() How goes things in your neck of the woods? We are starting to experience some of the hotter summer weather here. It was 96° F today and it is supposed to be 99° F tomorrow. Thunderstorms again for Sunday and Monday. We've been getting sporadic thunderstorms for the last month. |

It's rained here for the most part all week and will not stop until late this Sunday night. We have experienced quite mild temperatures (50's- 70's) since late April. We had two days (back to back) of 90+ degrees back in mid- May, but haven't come close that number since. Edited by AmVet, Jun 19 2009, 04:46 PM.

Well, I'd be happy to send you some of our sweltering weather if you like? ![]() We won't get back to 70s weather until late Autumn again. Maybe a one off day during the summer if we have a lot of rain. I don't think we are going to have to worry about drought this year. We've had plenty of rain. |

Sure, send it by Priority Mail that way I'll be able to have it first Actually, I don't mind the cooler air. I enjoy Autumn & Winter. The air conditioners aren't up yet, and I don't recall ever putting them in after June 1. Sunday is the 1st day of summer so maybe next week it become more seasonal. In fact, next Tuesday it's supposed to be around 80- nice day to take a walk down by the waterfront. |

^^ Will do. ![]() Lucky you to live near a waterfront. ![]() I was driving back from my brother's house today and saw some interesting new billboards on the side of the interstate (two different ones for the same hotel chain). They were animated. Some type of large LCD screen I believe it was. The images changed several types before I passed it. The billboards sure have come along way from the "Burma Shave" days.

The waterfront is about a twenty- minute walk for me. It's quite serene and peaceful. A few weeks ago I noticed tons of people were prepairing their boats for summer.
Yes, they sure have. |

I know where GC lives. He lives somewhere in Idaho. All this talk about living 20 minutes from the waterfront. Sounds like heaven. We've had a couple of storms this past week. Terrible lightning, gray skies and funnel clouds. I was going home one day and could see two or three lightning strikes at once. In any case, the weather has been going from muggy to wet to muggy again. When's summer coming again? And yes, Pittsburgh did win the Stanley Cup. So exciting to watch these young ones on skates.

Hey KOT! Man, it seems like I haven't posted here in like forever! How is everyone? I'm just getting ready for my big trip to Scotland to see my sweetie. My daughter and I leave in just 2 short days! It's all surreal for me...as I've never really traveled before. Exciting stuff! |

Yes, you have been absent from this board, and other boards, of late. Enjoy your trip and be sure to tell us all about it when you get back. Hmmm, wonder if she'll be brave enough to try the haggis? ( or )

I haven't tried it. I hear it is an acquired taste. Andrew Zimmerman (the travel channel) was in Scotland on one of his "Bizarre eats". He went to a place that made a lot of haggis. When the haggis cooks, it swells up like a big ball...sometimes exploding.

I watch Andrew Zimmerman like clockwork. I think his show is so very interesting. Half the time he's eating bugs and some kind of animal intestine. LOL. |

Am I right in thinking Mel is a vegetarian? If so, I don't think she'll be trying the Haggis - which consists of a sheeps organs, mixed with onions and spices, all lovingly cooked in a sheeps stomach! ![]() Here is a picture of Haggis as traditionally served with Neeps (Turnip) and Tatties (Potatoes).

If I weren't vegetarian, I would have tried it. I was known for eating just about anything in my family. I did find a Veg version though and it was quite nice!
