How's everyone doing? Having some roofing problems as of late. We had a hard rain the other day and some really bad winds. I thought I heard some leaking in one of the vents. Lo and behold, there's a leak somewhere. I know I shouldn't have gone with the cheaper price when I had my roof done a few years ago. In any case, I've been looking for someone to take a look at my roof without having to lose an arm and a leg in the process. I'm not going back to the person who did it before. I've tried that route once and it wasn't pleasant. Real life is a pain sometimes. I think I'll watch Star Trek XI again this Friday. I need to do something happy. I'll catch you all later. Wish me luck with the roof. |

Sorry to hear about the roofing troubles, Intrepid. Better luck with getting a good fix on it. I've had an interesting few days. Remember that earlier we had put our condo on the market with the hopes of later finding a large enough house that my aging mom could move into with us if needed. Well, even though we had not yet had any offers on the condo, we thought it was about time that we started looking at houses with our realtor. If nothing else, we would get a better idea of what features we liked, things we hated, good locations, etc. We spent the last couple of Saturdays doing that, and this past Saturday we saw 2 houses that were strong contenders. They were very similar, but the one that we both liked a little better had a west-facing patio that overlooked the entire mountain range, where I can see 4 of the 8 14ers that I've climbed! (Of course, it's a little more expensive). So our realtor said she'd work up some estimated figures on what our mortgage payment might be, just so we could get an idea. She came back with those figures on Sunday. We discussed our budget and figured that we could manage it. We got an offer on the condo on Monday. Our offer on the house was accepted Tuesday. We sign the "good faith" contract today. Both the closings on the sale of the condo and the purchase of the new house will take place on June 26th. We're scheduling the movers for June 27th. Wow, how is all that for timing? Now, just keep you fingers crossed that there won't be any unexpected hiccups for us. I'm a little stunned right now -- it almost seems too good to be true -- but hopeful that all will work out as well in the end as it has so far. It's a 3-bed, 2- bath house with central air conditioning (which we don't have now), a great room off the open kitchen, a formal dining area (which we'll probably use as our computer desk area since we are not formal diners), a formal living room adjacent to the dining area (which we'll probably turn into a library/reading room), and an unfinished basement with plumbing roughed in so that we could install a bathroom and other rooms down there if needed. And enough space for Mom! Please keep thinking good thoughts for us that this will all come through OK. |

When things are meant to be Tribblemom, they're meant to be. It's amazing to read how smoothly this is all going. Congratulations! Keeping good thoughts for a smooth transition and oh, make sure you have that roof checked at the home inspection. Keep us updated. Is there going to be a room for all the ST memorabilia? |

Sorry to hear about your roofing problems, Intrepid. Hope you get a good price on your next roof. Will your home owner's insurance help you in this case? I guess it depends on the amount of water damage and if it would be cheaper to just pay out of pocket. Congratulations on finding a house, TribbleMom! I hope things continue to move along smoothly for y'all. Intrepid, do they have those touch screen electronic check in kiosk's at your hospital? I took my Aunt to the hospital recently to get some scans (possible hernia on her side), and they had them at that hospital. The kiosk we used had a slight malfunction, but the others seemed to work. I thought that was a major technological advancement for patients. I didn't like that you had to swipe a driver's license or credit card to verify your identity though. |

Haven't seen one of those in a while ... but I used to have one on my previous pickup. I'm thinking my long-hoped-for Star Trek room will have to be located in the basement at our new house (provided all the financing still works out for our buyer of the condo and the closings both go through without a hitch). I was hoping for a main-floor room, but I have succumbed to the logic of having a guest room and a separate room for our computer/files/desk area. I guess the house should actually look like grown-ups live there. Well, a basement does seem like the expected place for a Trekkie haven after all, doesn't it? But that likely means that I will have to keep most things boxed yet until we can afford to at least finish the walls downstairs. But I hear that good things come to those who wait ... At least this year I can have my Star Trek Christmas tree. Here's a link to a pic of the place: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Dunkirk/frontofhouse2.jpg Front view (that window on the left is where the Christmas tree will stand), and my little old Mom by the front door (her car in the drive) Back view, from across the street: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Dunkirk/backofhousefromstreet.jpg Can you see the "sold" sign in the patio door? I think that's just the greatest! Kitchen: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Dunkirk/kitchen1.jpg I hope I'm not jinxing anything by posting these pics and calling it my house already. Please still keep your fingers crossed that we make it to the closing date with no hassels. If we do, lots will be happening fast and furious at the end of June. I've been keeping very busy lately researching online all the prices of the various things we will need for maintaining the lawn, as well as moving services (we no longer wish for either of us or any of our friends to hurt our backs trying to move an oak bedroom suite or living room furniture). |

No jinx, no jinx! ![]() The house looks really good. Almost new. The previous owner either took good care of the home or they had a lot of repairs done before putting it on the market. Solid roof. Maybe Intrepid should contact the roofers who did that home? ![]() Will you be able to fit two cars in the garage safely? I think based on what you've said you and your partner drive, you probably will be able too. One good thing about that front lawn, is you won't have to worry about a lot of mowing. Is the backyard about the same size (a mixture of rock and grass)? |

Eerrrmmm ... actually, it really is a new house. It was built by the developer in 2007, just before the housing market tanked, and no one has lived in it yet. Of course, that means that we will get to pay for the window coverings that we'll choose, as none are currently in the house. And, yes, we should be able to get both vehicles in the garage OK. I am looking forward to not having nearly as much lawn work to do as if we had chosen an older home with a big honkin' back yard. I only do yard work because I have to, not because I enjoy it. An additional perk of this house's location is that it will only be 6.5 miles to work for me now instead of 15. I just may be able to to work in the good weather from now on. That would be good for keeping my leg muscles in shape for mountain hiking, as well as saving on gas and emissions.

That's a really nice house TribbleMom. Do you know who your neighbors are? My fingers are crossed that everything goes smoothly. You only have a few more weeks to go and you'll be in the house. Think positive. |
