Hello Everybody!

I'm back from my adventure in Washington DC. As I mentioned earlier, a few friends and I decided on a total whim to attend the inauguration of President Obama. Though I was the skeptic in the group, I've got to admit it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Things seemed to fall into place and four of us girlfriends somehow found ourselves around the Washington Monument waiting for Barack Obama to be inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Yes, there were the so called people with "tickets" but then again, there were throngs of people without tickets (about a million or so people) who just started massing together. There were jumbotrons....huge huge screens where you could see everything and hear everything. What struck me as awesome was how well behaved the crowd was. At the actual moment President Obama was being sweared in, you could literally hear a pin drop. It was almost solemn and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. I didn't want to but I was overcome by emotion.

The crowd was awesome. There were people from everywhere. There were also all kinds of tacky collectibles being sold from every corner of the city. LOL. I was so tempted to buy a commemorative plate but my girlfriend told me to wait until after the event and that they'd go down drastically.

I don't say this just because I voted for the man but there was just a sense of calm in the audience. Though he himself is eloquent, I think there is more to this man that he can command such an audience to be in awe. Just talking to the people around me, I could sense that people were ready to stop whining and start working. I'm so glad we decided to go.

Cold? Yes it was cold but days previous to the inauguration, we had below zero weather here in Pittsburgh, so the cold in DC was bearable. A heatwave almost. ;)

Intrepid, that sounds like a wonderful and very positive experience. I'm so glad for you that you could go. I agree with what you say about Obama's poise, elequence, and presence. Reminds me a lot of John F. Kennedy.

I've got a busy weekend coming up, so I may not be back on the boards for a few days ... possibly even a week. First we're going to a grandson's basketball game, then the boys are coming over for an overnight at grandma's, then I'm going to help my mom with some of her shopping and chores on Sunday, and later that evening an out-of-town friend is coming for a few days' visit on her way back through to her hometown ...

Dang, I think I'm tired already.

Sounds like fun was had by all in D.C.! I wish I could have experienced the Inauguration in person, but it was still fun to watch on TV. I was pretty amazed by how calm everyone was too considering how many people were packed into that general area.

Have a good time TribbleMom! We'll see you when we see you!

How cold is it where you live. Somebody give me some reports of nice warm weather.

We've got ice, freezing rain and snow. It was an interesting ride home from work nonetheless. I heard that all the schools were closed for the day.

It rained lightly here today, but it wasn't all that cold. It was about 60 degrees today. It gets colder overnight (30s), but will be back up in the 50s tomorrow. No rain for tomorrow. Tolerable winter weather. :D

Hi, all ... I'm back again. We enjoyed last weekend with the grandkids, though (as usual) their energy can wear out an adult pretty quickly. Growing boys. And we also enjoyed our friend's visit. She had stayed with us nearly a week prior to her vacation to Egypt (guided tour), and then stayed about 3 days again afterward, just long enough for us to get a good look at all her pictures.

Now we're enjoying the quiet of having our condo back to ourselves. Seems like the older I get, I can enjoy having company, but really enjoy it when they leave and things get back to normal again.

Today's agenda: laundry, vacuuming, wash my really dirty pickup, do my taxes so I can get them in the mail, and get in a good long walk outside while it's supposed to be 60 degrees and sunny. Tomorrow should be back near the freezing mark. :cold: That might be a better day for staying inside to wash all our walls in preparation for putting the condo on the market.

Hey there TribbleMom! Glad you had a good visit with your friend. Man, I wish I could go to Egypt. Though I would want to have people around me. An American woman traveling alone in Egypt might not be a smart thing to do.

I know what you mean about having company over and then being able to get things back in order when they leave.

So you do your own taxes? I've always gotten them done by someone else. I would be afraid that I would screw something up and the IRS would be beating on my front door wanting to know where "their" money is. ;)

Its pretty cold here too at night. Very brisk today.

I have been doing my own taxes, because mine aren't that complicated. Most years, I'm still able to use the simpler 1040A form and I don't have itemized deductions. (But my partner "has people"). That will likely change this coming year, what with selling the condo and buying a house together in both our names. (Then I'll start using my partner's "people" too).

Yesterday, I got 9 lines into the thing and realized that I hadn't yet received my dividend form, though, so it all came to a screeching halt. Bummer. I want my refund, even though it may possibly all end up going to buy new appliances when we move.

People? I want some people!! ;) I had "people" a few times several years ago.

Right now, I've got Magic Johnson. :P

I've been waiting to get my W-2's in the mail. This is the first time it didn't come by the end of the month. I'm starting to get anxious about it wondering who I'm going to have to call to get a replacement.

It's extremely cold here. I'm here at home waiting for the Superbowl to start. Don't really feel like partying. I'll cheer from home in my pajamas.

We're expecting a big storm Monday or Tuesday. Yipee! :(

Hopefully that will show up in today's mail. I think the rule was that the W2's are supposed to be in the mail by Jan. 31, but not necessarily that they had to arrive at their destination by Jan. 31st. With the 31st being a Saturday this year, maybe the Sunday delay in mail service is the only thing holding it up.

Stay warm, and keep out of that storm.

I think I heard someone in my family mention recently that the date was pushed back a little for when W-2s had to be sent out. That could have just been her company though. :chin:

Do you all remember I had that accident with the 2009 Mercedes Benz?

Well I got a pleasant surprise in the mail the other day. My insurance company sent me a letter telling me that they're now working on trying to recoup my deductible. Could that mean that the accident wasn't my fault and that my rates won't go up?

Fingers crossed everybody.

Sounds like a good possibility (or some other lesser circumstances can apply). Insurance companies are notoriously stingy with their resources. I doubt they would waste time trying to recoup costs for you if they didn’t think they could benefit some how.

Well, my body aches here and there. This morning I slipped on some ice on the top step out back and fell down the stairs. I have to get up super early to feed the puppy and take him out to do his potty business. So the weather hadn’t warmed up and there was still a light layer of ice that had formed on them over night.

Ankles, knees, my left arm/leg and part of my tail end all hurt to some degree. My skin is bruised and scraped up in some places, and I ripped my right thumb open too. Despite all that, the pain isn't too bad, and the strain in my left arm should be okay as long as I don’t lift anything heavy in the next few days. Nothing debilitating. I can still walk around. I'm just going to be achy for several days. I got lucky. The damage could have been much worse.

Sorry to hear about that slip, 24. Odd how we just don't bounce right back up unscathed like we used to when we were kids. Hope the body parts are feeling a little better by now.

Thanks! I'm still in a tad bit of pain, but I am definitely on the mend. :D

I just read this. Are you sure you didn't break anything 24? :(

Take Motrin for the pain and if you feel something is not right, go get some X-rays.
You must of got the same ice we did. We had a terrible bout of ice and snow. We had all kinds of slip and fall injuries in the ER.

I'm pretty sure nothing was broken. I broke some bones when I was a kid, so I know what that kind of pain is like. Most the pain has been like a strain on the muscles. A little ache in my joints. That type of thing.

The pain is definitely starting to go away. I made sure not to lift anything too heavy with my left arm this week. Most of the swelling is down in the bruised areas. I had Aleve (generic brand), so I took that.
