It's the Sunday before the first Monday of the year. I don't know why I feel the need to get ready. Today I took down all my Christmas decorations.( I usually wait till February ) Did tons of laundry, ironed, went to the grocery store and pharmacy and did all this while playing my favorite game Gladiatus. I'd fold a little bit, check on my gladiator, iron a few things, check on my gladiator, take a few boxes down to the garage, check on my gladiator, make a few phone calls, check on my gladiator, clean the bathroom, check on my gladiator. All this while watching a few episodes of DS9 and SG-1.I turned on the television to watch a few Sunday morning talk shows and was shocked! What's this world coming to? I think I'll crawl back into my little hole and watch more Sci-Fi. I find comfort in that. Have a good Monday everybody. Watch out while backing your car out of a parking spot. Don't hit anybody in a Mercedes. Oh yeah, taking my car back to the dealership on Tuesday. I'll be $500 (my deductible) poorer.

My car is back. What an ordeal that was. I hope I never have to go through that process again. Looks like nothing happened to the car. |

^^ You're lucky. Some cars look like a patch work after they paint over the repaired area. I guess it depends on how much the paint job in general has faided. They gave you a rental until your car was finished, didn't they? I was watching some comedian a long time ago talking about rental cars and their reliability. It was a pretty funny joke routine based on how people all of a sudden become race car drivers when they are driving the rental car (i.e. its not your car and you have the rental car insurance, so who cares if you wreck it kind of routine).

Intrepid, I'm glad your car is back home. Always feels more secure when everything is in its proper place, doesn't it? Sorry I've been absent a few days again ... real life crept up on me again. We also had an out-of-town friend come for a few days' visit, and I didn't want to be rude spending my time on the computer when I should be visiting with a live person in my home. Also, we got a new cat. After having to put down my all-white boy, my remaining cat seemed lonely and started to withdraw, spending more time under the bed and behind the couch. So we figured maybe she needed a new friend. I looked on Craigslist for a "free to good home" cat and came across a 2-year-old calico. As expected, it will take a little longer yet for the 2 cats to get friendly, but at least they can be in the same room at the same time without too much hissing. That almost always happens when you introduce a new cat in an established environment. But time will get everything worked out OK, I believe. Here she is: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Mimi1.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Mimiplaying.jpg Her previous owners had just had a new baby, and apparently the baby had inherited the father's allergies to a greater degree. And since people tend to look at you funny if you give up the baby instead of the cat in a situation like that ... They had called the cat Mimi, but I don't care much for that name. So we are calling her Dax. I was talking to the new cat and throwing around a few names to her, seeing if she would respond to any (Jadzia, Ezri, Kira, Seven -- are you sensing a trend here?), and when I said "How about Dax?" the cat meowed. I just couldn't tell if it was a meow that meant "I like it" or "Are you crazy?!" So I guess we're calling her Dax. |

Hey TribbleMom! Hope you have been having a good visit with your friend! Ohh, Dax is so cute! I think the name Dax suits her better. She has really pretty patchwork hair. Ohhh, tickle her belly! I hope she wasn't too sad when her former owners gave her up. Is your other cat jealous that Dax is in her fireplace spot?

We've been trying to interact with her a lot to make her feel welcomed here. I think she's so busy exploring the new surroundings that she doesn't seem too sad. It appears that her favorite game is a version of hide-and-seek. She hides the toys we give her, and I seek them to give them back, then she hides them again ... My remaining tabby cat doesn't seem jealous about the fireplace spot ... she wasn't really the one basking in its heat that much anyway. We don't think that Dax's previous owners had a fireplace, because she sure looked it over very tentatively when we lit it up Friday night. Good thing we had the fireplace this weekend. Friday night our furnace went out. Made a call to a repairman to set up an appointment for Saturday. We were fine overnight because we had plenty of wood and kept a fire going all night. The repairman had to replace a solenoid switch (the thing that makes it actually ignite) and a gas valve, and cleaned the whole thing, and told us it was a 1994 model that probably didn't have that much longer left to it. About $1000 later, our furnace is working again (for now, anyway). If we weren't getting ready to move soon, we probably would have opted to replace the whole thing, but ... |

That's funny about the cat hiding the toys. ![]() Geeze Louise, that is a lot of money to put out for your furnace. Any luck on the house hunting? |

Yeah, it was plenty of $$, but we do need to stay warm, and we can't keep a fire in the fireplace all the time. As to house-hunting, we're stalling for the month of January. The house guest we had last week is coming to stay a short time again toward the end of this month, and that's not a situation conducive to showing this place for sale. I think we will have to get a contract on this condo before we decide on a house, as we really can't afford payments on a new place if we still have to carry this condo's mortgage as well (maybe one month, possibly 2 months we could stretch that far, but it would be a big stretch). So if we have to get temporary housing between the sale of this condo and moving into a new house, we'll deal with that when we get to it. Our new cat may wonder what she's gotten herself into! |

Really weird, but I have had two Disney related dreams in the past month! ![]() I can no longer remember the exact details of the first, but the second had a Christmas/people from my distant past/Disney theme to it. Wacko when people that you knew in grade school show up in your dreams too. |

FINALLY! We are getting a bit of snow this morning. ![]() Just a few snowflakes though. ![]() Edit: Turned out to be a tiny bit of snow flake and more like small chunks of ice instead. It only lasted about a half-hour too.

24, I hope that ice doesn't make for a bad morning commute to work. I tagged along with a gal from work and some of her other friends on a little snowshoeing trip yesterday. We just went into the mountains to a campground area that we were all familiar with, and snowshoed on the road leading through the campground and back into the valley. It was warm, sunny, and not much breeze, so us 8 people and 5 dogs had a great time getting some fresh air. Here are some pics: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Geneva%20snowshoe%2001-17-09/Genevasnowshoe1.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Geneva%20snowshoe%2001-17-09/Genevasnowshoe2.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Geneva%20snowshoe%2001-17-09/Genevasnowshoe3.jpg The areas protected by the trees retained the most snow, but some open areas exposed to the sun, as you can see, were nearly snow-free. That must have been what enticed some fellows to try to get their 4-wheel drive vehicle back in there. Please note in this next picture the angle of their rear driver-side wheel. I don't think that vehicle is going anywhere until spring. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Geneva%20snowshoe%2001-17-09/genevasnowshoe4.jpg |

^^ I don't think ice will be a problem tomorrow, thankfully. Those are great pictures! Very beautiful scenery. The mountain peaks in the distance are very "picturesque". Glad you had a good time! The dogs look like they were definitely having fun too. ![]() Unless that truck gets a tow from a tractor and some de-icer, I think you might be right about it being stuck until spring. Unless that person has two vehicles, they'll probably figure a way to get it out sooner rather than later. |

Is it just me or does the sky in Colorado seem much bluer. We've been toying with a little bit of below zero weather. It's cold yes but it never seems like the sky is blue when the weather is cold. It's just cold and gloomy. Yuck. |

Weather that cold will make your brain freeze! We are finally supposed to get a decent snow! ![]() It is supposed to start snowing late tonight and continue until early tomorrow. They are only calling for a few inches. Potential flurry later in the day. That's better than nothing.

Only if there is a blizzard. I’m going to be home tomorrow though. If I had to drive in the snow, I probably wouldn't be as excited. ![]() Oh and the "blue" in those Colorado pictures is something I have always thought about too. I wondered if TribbleMom was enhancing the photos to make us even more jealous about her living in Colorado.

No, I actually have not been enhancing any of the photos. I do have a photo shop program, but I barely ever use it for anything except to re-size a photo for e-mailing. I think the really blue hue to the sky is at least partially due to the fact that a lot of the pics I post are taken at higher altitudes, where there is less "atmospheric clutter" to cut through. The sun is more intense at higher elevations and sunburn can happen quickly without protective sun screen lotion. So it stands to reason that the light is filtered less and colors can show up more brilliantly in pictures. At lower elevations, Denver's sky isn't always that blue. In fact, we have quite a few days where our brown smog cloud is visible. Kind of depressing, so that's why I run away to the mountains when I can. |
