^^ Well, good thing you weren't hurt. Who will the insurance say is at fault in such a situation? I think I would be inclined to stay away from the shopping after that too for a while. ![]()
He probably saw you and like many people assumed that that you would stop and let him pass before continuing to pull out of the space, or he was looking down and messing with his radio, cell phone or trying to light that cigarette and wasn't paying attention. I guess he won’t assume next time or will be more careful about messing around with stuff in his car when he should be paying attention to driving. I've hit someone in a parking lot before, but the lady was the one pulling out of the parking space. It happened so fast, I barely had time to see her pull out. She was close to the end of the aisle of cars and I had just turned on that aisle of cars. Luckily, I wasn't driving that fast so there was no damage to her car. Just a small scratch on mine. We said forget it and didn't even involve the police or insurance. If there had been damage to her car, then that would have been a different story. It sounds like the guy in your accident was driving a little too fast in the parking lot as well. |

Well, I have a new avatar again, but it wasn't by choice. RoadRunner decided to replace the server that contained my account's webpage space. I hadn't used it as a webpage for years, but I did store files there, like my avatar image, for example. They sent out 2 notices warning that webpages owners needed to register on the new server and move their files before they were deleted, but I never saw them. They never send me anything except useless newsletters so, with the hustle of the holidays, I didn't look at the e-mails very carefully and thought they were just more of the same newsletters. So apparently everything has been deleted now. I'm told they might be able to recover my files from a backup, but it will be at least January before I get them back. I didn't have anything too important there anyway, but in principle, I think that's lousy. It's fine if they want to install a new server, but they shouldn't put the burden of moving the files on the customers. |

^^ Sounds like a pain. Here is your dolphin avatar. I do backups of all avatars that are entered into each avatar contest so I can quickly and seperately link the winning avatar in the Awards sections right after a winner announced. I haven't had a chance to move the extras out of my files yet. http://z1.ifrm.com/1500/38/0/p1003365/dolphinglobe.gif |

Intrepid, what a bummer having an accident like that! Thankfully, everyone was able to walk away. That, at least, keeps this at the level of a rather nasty inconvenience rather than being tragic. Sorry for the troubles, though. It's never fun dealing with insurance claims and having the vehicle in the body shop. |

^^^ Thanks Tribblemom. Fender bender update: Received a few messages on my cellphone from the other person's insurance agent. I guess she wants to ask me some questions. I called my insurance agent and asked him if it would be wise for me to talk to her and he said to go ahead but just opt out of being "recorded". According to my insurance agent, the boy said it was all my fault. Guess Mommy and Daddy are coming after me. LOL. Merry Christmas! Despite this bummer of a bumper, I'm okay. I'm working like mad. My choice. It's good to keep busy to keep my mind off things. It's been cold but no real snow to speak of. No white Christmas here in Pittsburgh. Catch you all later. |

Intrepid, Sorry, I didn't read up the thread when I was here last so I didn't see your post about your accident. I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm glad no one was hurt. Did you call the police to make a report? That would help as evidence in determining who was at fault and so it's not merely your word against his. What a pain. The same thing happened to my wife a couple of years ago. She was waiting to pull out of a parking lot and some 16 year old who borrowed his parents' car and didn't have a license slammed into her rear end. No was was hurt then either and the police were there to establish that it was the kid's fault. There was no impact on our insurance and the other insurance company paid 100% of the repairs. |

Well, I probably won't be back here again before Christmas is over. My daughter is in a play with our church this afternoon. Then we'll probably drive around looking at people's holiday displays - we have some neighborhoods that go all out with their lights and it has been a tradition with us to visit them on Christmas Eve. After that, it's off to bed to await Santa's arrival (actually I'll be up quite late making sure he comes ). Tomorrow we'll enjoy our daughter's wide-eyed excitement. Gotta enjoy that while it lasts. I figure we probably only have another 2 or 3 years before Santa's magic vanishes.I wish you all happy and safe holidays!

So did most folks here (except Intrepid, of course) get a 4-day weekend because of the holiday? My workplace was open yesterday, but a lot of the workers had chosen to use a PDO (Paid Day Off) to get a long weekend. Hence, it was really quiet and I got a lot of work done! No phone calls, no questions interrupting me. Today the weather is supposed to be cold but sunny, so I think it's about high time that I invested in a few hours' worth of "me time." I hope to visit a state park for a 6-mile walk near an area where bald eagles are known to nest. So many of my weekends lately have been devoted to either packing/cleaning/decluttering to prepare our condo for sale, or going to help my Mom with a few chores ... it's time to recharge my batteries a little, too. Hope everyone has a good weekend! |

Update: Yep, I got out for a good walk around a State Park/Wildlife Refuge yesterday. Here's a couple of snapshots so you all can see that even though we may not have a lot of snow in Denver itself right now, there's plenty of snow in the mountains. This first pic shows some Canada Geese in the foreground on Barr Lake (there's a strip of ice from the frozen portion of the lake showing above and to the right of the open water) and Long's Peak in the distant background: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/000_0002.jpg This pic shows some of the prairie in the state park with snowy Mt. Bierstadt in the background. The wind was really whipping yesterday in the higher elevations, and a lot of the white that you see there is from plumes of snow being driven off the mountain: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/000_0003.jpg The day was clear enough to see south to Pikes Peak (60 or more miles away). The wind must have been particularly strong there; I could see a massive plume of snow blowing off of it, and it looked like the plume stretched all the way from the summit to the base of the mountain -- that's something like 7000 feet elevation. Too bad I couldn't have gotten a good shot of that! Other than this outing, I just haven't had my camera out much lately. Although breezy and cold, it was a joy to get out in the sun. There are quite a few bald eagles gathering at this lake to wait out the winter. I saw some standing on the ice at the edge of the open water, probably waiting for some fish to swim by. Unfortunately, that was too far away for my camera's little lens to capture. To the naked eye, they just looked like little dark dots way out there; you needed a good pair of binoculars to see any detail on them. Aside from the eagles, the park is home to several different types of hawks and falcons as well as mule deer (saw about 20 of those). I'm hoping that January will bring me a little more time to get out snowshoeing; maybe I'll have prettier pics for you all then. |

TribbleMom, I've been off, but the weather has been on the crappy side. I think it has rained every day or other day for the last month or so. Nice pictures! A lot of wintry color contrast there. With the barbed wire. Is that a land boundary thing or are they keeping various populations of animals in certain areas? |

I've always imagined Colorado would be whited out by now with snow. I guess not. I hear lots of stories from the doctors and their wives when they get back from their skiing vacations in Vail. It's not like we don't have a bunny slope or two here in our own backyard of Pennsylvania. I personally like to tell them how I can ice skate on my driveway. Rich doctors, what are you going to do with them? Not to be "bah humbugish" or anything like that but aren't you all going to be glad when the holidays are over? I know I am. I'd like things to get back to normal. I'm really starting to get annoyed with this weather. No wonder IE doesn't want to move back up north. Well see you all later on. I've got to take out the trash. I can hear the garbage truck coming. I hate missing the garbage man.

I’m not burned out on the holidays yet this year, but I will be glad when they are over with by the end of this week. Some years I’m ready to pull my hair out by Thanksgiving. Our own Season’s Greetings theme on this board will be “taken down” by New Year’s Day. You’re supposed to keep some decorations up until New Years or it will bring you bad luck. I packed all of my decorations up (finished yesterday), so I can’t take our theme down early now. I don’t want to risk a year’s worth of bad luck! ![]()

I was thinking about taking the Christmas tree down today. Glad I didn't. Don't want to risk a year of bad luck. There have been years though where the tree has been up till February. |

Sorry to take this long to answer your question. The fence in that picture marked the boundary of the state park that I was in. There was rural private land just beyond it. Some people in the area have livestock (horses, a few cattle). I have been off the boards a couple of days because I had to make the difficult decision to put down my oldest kitty, the all-white one. He was 18 & 1/2 years old. I'll spare you any of the details here, but I will post an entry in the blogosphere if anyone cares to visit that section. |

For some reason, they seem to think of Vail and Aspen as status symbols. I don't know if the skiing there is really any better than anywhere else or not. Aspen has a reputation for drawing Hollywood celebrities ... and the price tag to boot. |
