Thanks TribbleMom. ![]() The good news did continue into today. No lice found on anyone at both checks today. I'll be really happy when this is all over. This 3-4 hours per day I'm spending on this is way too much time. I guess I shouldn't complain though since I'm the only one in the house that didn't have the bugs in my hair. |

When you order several drinks at the drive-thru (fast food), I always find it humorous that the person at the window bothers to ask if you want a cup holder. I think at the time, "No, I want my drinks flying all over the car on the way to my destination." ![]() Edit: I just saw a story on the news about some "Jack in the Box" fast food restaurants in NC that are outsourcing their drive-thru portion of the restaurant. Basically, you drive up and the person you talk to through the speaker is located at some call center (they compute your order for you). Texas was mentioned in the story, but seriously... y'all know its going to be India before too long. ![]() Anyway, outsourcing the drive-thru? They say they are only testing it at a couple of locations right now.Speaking of fast food restaurants... IE, Whatever happened after the incident involving your daughter and her getting hurt at McDonalds? The follow up with the McDonalds that is. Edited by 24thcenstfan, Jul 11 2008, 06:34 PM.

Those drive through speakers are often hard to hear what the order-taker is saying too. And now they're going to potentially add a thick accent too? Great! I ended up letting it go. |

We went back at least once. McDonald's isn't usually our first choice of fast food anyway so it may have been just that once. This particular one was very close to the daycare that my daughter used to go to. Now that she is in school, it's not as convenient either. I thought the play area was reasonably padded. The corner that my daughter ran into was kind of out of the way in there and you wouldn't expect kids who are just climbing on the equipment in there to be near that spot. Really my daughter shouldn't have been running around in there like she was and so I didn't feel right blaming the restaurant once I saw it. I'm not blaming my wife either (who was the one with my daughter at the time). She was with other parents and it's to easy to be talking in a moment and not fully watching and an accident happens in seconds before you know it. It was just one of those things. |

Whew ... I think we have just one more week of Little League and T-ball games, then I might get to be back on the boards a little more often. Yesterday we did get a break long enough to drive up to the mountains to visit our camping buddies, who were staying for a week (their vacation) at our favorite campground. We really enjoyed the day with them and had beautiful weather, but were saddened to see that pine beetles have apparently moved into the area are are beginning to kill the trees there. As the trees die, the forest service will have to cut them down before they have a chance to blow over in a strong wind. Some campgrounds in this state have been temporarily closed for such maintenance. I expect that within a couple of years, our favorite campground will be quite a bit more sunny than it is now, and will remain so until new trees can grow back (which may take decades). http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/TribbleMom/Burning%20Bear/100_0221.jpg There are 12 sites in this campground; 10 of them can't be seen because of the trees in this picture. The only real hope for avoiding that is if we experience a very long, very cold spell this winter that might kill the beetles. Unfortunately, Colorado hasn't seen that happen in quite a few winters now. Most supression treatment methods are too expensive to really be useful in large forests. Here's more info for those of you who have a scientific curiosity about these nasty little bugs: http://www.na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/fidls/we_pine_beetle/wpb.htm |

Hey TribbleMom! ![]() Are the young ones playing well?
That looks like a nice place to go camping. Too bad about the beetles. They look like nasty little buggers. Are there any benefits to the beetles wiping out the trees? |

Sad about the infestations. To think how long it takes for a tree to grow. |

24, The kids are doing pretty well in their games, thanks. The 6-year -old is just learning the basic rules in T-ball, though he still gets confused. For example, when others on the team get tagged out, he's confused why they have to quite batting because he himself didn't get tagged out. Still hasn't quite gotten the whole team concept. The 12-year-old's team is so far undefeated. As for the beetles, there are very many troubles and very few benefits associated with them. Mostly our troubles lie in the form of how many dead trees they leave behind. The forest service doesn't have enough resources to completely clear away all the dead ones throughout millions of acres, so they concentrate on removing dead trees from the "populated" areas. That leaves miles and miles of dead timber just ripe for a lightning strike to start a massive forest fire. I guess the only benefit would be that the forest gets a chance to renew itself ... the older trees get killed off and allow younger trees to grow. I'm sure it's all part of nature's cycle, but it's difficult to see so many mature trees die so quickly. |

Good for them!. ![]()
With such limited resources, I guess the best answer now would be for Colorado to experience a super cold winter that you previously mention. Maybe Colorado will be due for one since it has been less so for the last several years. |

I just ate a Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bar...Almond flavored. I've eaten other kinds of Nature Valley products, but this one was a little like a candybar due to the bottom layer almond nougat. Pretty good.

Well it seems we may finally be past this head lice issue. I say "may" because I know these critters are tricky and I'm not counting my chickens or letting my guard down at all. But the last louse we saw was just 1 on my daughter's head and it was last Tuesday. Between a week ago Sunday and this morning, that's the only one we have seen. Judging by its size, that one was obviously a nit that we missed and it hatched. And now we are past the period of 7-10 days in which most nits hatch. They say it's possible for them to hatch up to 4 weeks after they are laid, but that's very unusual. So we have now reduced combing to once per day and have changed the cream application from daily to every 3 days which will just be for this week. What we're doing now is just a precaution to make sure we haven't missed anything, but I do believe they are gone. We'll continue the combing for a minimum of 2 more weeks though and we'll check periodically after that since it seems kids have them everywhere my daughter goes.
