Before I went to bed last night, I prayed to God over a few issues. I ended up dreaming of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Captain Sisko. I hope that wasn’t His answer.

I was flipping through the channels earlier and Lifetime is already advertising a Christmas in July special (series of Christmas movies). ![]() I'm surprised we aren't fed Christmas specials in April or May now. Ridiculous. If this were after Halloween, then I wouldn't be so annoyed. |

^ Christmas already?! That IS ridiculous! ![]() Well, my daughter now has head lice. Three times, a note came home from her kindergarten class during the Spring saying that someone in her class had head lice. Then someone was found in her dance class with head lice. Then we put her back in her old daycare for part of the summer so she can be with other kids and go on field trips, but they just sent home a note because 2 kids were found with head lice there too. Holy cow. Is it any wonder my daughter eventually got them too?
So we spent last night cleaning her hair (and ours because she still sleeps in our be a lot) with a cream that her doctor gave us. Still, my head has been itchy all day. I think it's the power of suggestion. And then there was all the housecleaning too - the linens, vacuuming carpets and furniture, bagging stuffed animals and plush toys, etc... I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. Bugs ![]() |

*shiver* I hate lice.
Or you could have just missed some! ![]() Nahh, just hearing people talk about lice can make me itch. *scratches my head* Its probaby the power of suggestion for you too. ![]()
Those little buggers are persistent. Are you going to have to throw away any of her toys? |

![]() I don't expect to have to throw away any of her toys. Lice die after 24 hours of not being on a person. Eggs (aka nits, although technically nits are hatched eggs) hatch in 7 to 10 days. So keeping her toys in question bagged for 2 weeks should be enough time for all existing or unborn lice to die. But, of course, if they return shortly after that, we may have to rethink if there's a round 2. Edit: Darn, I was fine until I got back on the subject. Now I'm itching again.

Wow, IE, I sure hope that cream works to get rid of the little critters. Nasty looking little bugger. Still a busy time, so I'm just popping in long enough to say hi. I still think about you all even if I can't get here to talk to you for a few days.Everyone be safe and have a happy 4th of July. |

Thanks a lot 24 for that picture! ![]() And thanks TribbleMom for the well wishes. ![]() It looks like the problem is nastier than we thought. The doctor had said she only saw 2 lice in my daughter's hair and no nits so she didn't think it was a big problem yet. However, I got a lice comb on my way home from work yesterday and combed through my daughter's hair to make sure the cream had killed them all. Wrong! I pulled out at least 50 live lice out of her hair! It took about 2 hours! And I'm pretty sure I saw many nits as well. So then my wife and I were really suspicious of the itching in our own hair. We found about 6 live lice in my wife's hair and none in mine. However, they're tricky little buggers so I'm not completely convinced I have none. I do have the shortest hair, however, which might explain my apparent good fortune. But the main point is the cream didn't work so my wife is calling back the doctor's office this morning. And those things are tiny! Up until last night, I hadn't actually seen one. They're about as small as a gnat. I only got about 4 hours sleep again last night because of this.

Ewww, that's bad luck, IE. Your daughter must have been going crazy with that many crawling around on her head. All of those creepy crawlies everywhere would be driving me nuts by now. Your pharmacist would probably be able to help you better than your doctor with picking out a good product to kill the lice. So if your doctor doesn't seem to be prescribing the right product, you might want to consider talking to the pharmacist instead. Most of the medications used are over the counter anyway (i.e. no need for a prescription). |

That's a good idea about the pharmacist. Thanks for the suggestion 24. Here you can see the size of these little critters. And, you can tell by the penny, that this picture is magnified quite a bit. From this, I believe we saw mostly nymphs, but at least 1 adult louse. This came from the CDC website and they compare the nymph size to a pinhead and the adult louse size to a sesame seed. Those sound about right to me based on what I saw. The nymphs were so small that the only way I was sure they weren't dandruff was because they were moving.

![]() I'll never admit to it! ![]() Were you able to make some headway tonight with getting rid of the lice? -- I saw a lady today that looked like Marg Helgenberger, but with redder hair. I almost went over and asked her for an autograph.

Another night spent on lice. We found 10 more in my daughters hair and 1 in my wife's hair. So we seem to be making some progress. Hopefully, there will be zero by tomorrow. This morning doctor said to wait one more night and, if we found any more live ones, bring our daughter in tomorrow. So in she will go.I've hardly been able to play Gladiatus because of those lice too. At least I'll be getting to bed slightly earlier tonight. It was 3am last night.

*itch* *itch* Wow. Sorry to hear about the lice IE. But like 24 and Tribblemom, I itch just reading your post. Treating lice is going to be a long process regardless IE. It could take more than one treatment and you're going to have to be consistent with using the lice comb and clearing her head of the nits. You and the Mrs. too. It could take weeks. What you also have to treat is the house. But I'm sure your doctor told you what to do..... short of fumigation. |
