I haven't given it much thought yet, as I like to get outdoors when I can. But I may give it a little try during my convalescence. We'll just have to play that by ear. I don't really want to get addicted to a computer game. |

Its raining here again today. TribbleMom, we occasionally get the erratic temperature days that you describe (cold in the morning, warm during the day and cold in the evening) when we are transitioning between winter and spring or fall and winter. I've had to run my heat and air-conditioning all in one day (several times).

Without fail, I eat popcorn and some of it always ends up on the floor.

That's when pets can come in handy. If they eat it, you don't have to vacuum. |

![]() If only mine would. My cat won't touch anything but crunchy catfood and my dog is losing his sight. I have to put the bowl about two inches from his face so that he will see the bowl to eat. Or I hand feed him. He's getting pretty old. |

Perhaps your cat will become your dog's seeing-eye cat. I've heard of this happening before. I also have some friends with a blind dog, and they joke that they are his seeing-eye people. They've taught him some verbal commands to cue him for going down stairs (like saying "down" for each stair and "OK" when he's at the bottom). |

My cat looking after him would be interesting. I don't think he would though. They don't have that kind of tight relationship. But animals will surprise you. I'm afraid I will have to continue to be his seeing eye person. He has a touch of senility too, so I have to do a lot for him. He's my bud though. |

^ Thanks 24. My Mother-in-law passed away yesterday. We've been busy making all the arrangements. Most things are in place now. She wanted to be cremated so that will happen at the beginning of next week (it takes time to get the death certificate and get the weekend out of the way, etc.) She wants her remains to be buried next to her parents in Pittsburgh. So there will be a service there next weekend on Sunday. Unfortunately, that's also Mother's Day, but that ends up being the best day for various reasons. |

I'm sorry to hear that. I was hoping she would somehow make a turnaround. I hope she didn't suffer too much before she passed away. My condolences to you and your family. |

Thanks 24.
So many times before, her health turned around when the odds seemed against her. We all knew that one of these times it wouldn't go that way. We've been fortunate that she survived those other times. |

Well, I hope your wife is fairing well. Everything is so recent, I imagine she might be on autopilot right now. Has your daughter been asking a lot of questions? |

Add my condolences to you and your family as well IE. I didn't know your wife's family had a Pittsburgh connection. I think now is about the time your wife is going to really need your shoulder. Take care. |

Thank you 24, TribbleMom, and Intrepid. 24, My wife is doing ok; better than I expected. My daughter's initial reaction to hearing about this was to spout off a few things that had happened in school that she was irritated about. I think that was her way of expressing her own sadness and perhaps even a little let down. Then, after a bit, she asked "When we can we get a new Grandma?" She cried a little bit upon hearing that there wouldn't be a new Grandma. That all happened on Thursday. Since then, she hasn't asked anything or shown any signs that it's on her mind. I think she doesn't fully understand and it will sink in more later when it has been awhile since she last saw Grandma. Intrepid, Yes, my wife's father was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Her mother's family immigrated there after WWII and her mother spent most of her childhood growing up there in Pittsburgh. |

I can see that happening. My grandfather died when I was about ten years old and it was years later before I really mourned for him. It didn't really register with me fully even at the age of ten. |

CBS has this really great cartoon on Saturday mornings. Its called Strawberry Shortcake. LINK Cute characters and they do a moral of the story or lesson each episode. I have watched it a few times and think it would be great for small kids. And adults who are reminiscing.
The primary stations don't really do Saturday morning cartoons as much as they used to. So it is nice that at least that one is available. I used to love Strawberry Shortcake (I guess I still do :P). I still have a doll packed up somewhere. You squeeze her stomach and a whiff of strawberry air comes out of her mouth. It still smelled like strawberries the last time I saw the doll. |

I remember those dolls.
The other day I was walking through K-Mart's toy section and saw the kind of dolls that kids play with these days. Besides the eternal Barbie doll there was this thing called "Bratz". What a change from what I used to play with. Were the strawberry shortcake dolls the ones that transformed into cakes or cupcakes? |

The doll that I had was not transformable. There could have been other dolls that were. They also made accessories. Some of those could have been too. I've seen the "Bratz" dolls on TV. I think those are supposed to be the more urban or ethnic counter to Barbie. I think they were a bit more realistic waist size, but the boobs were still big as usual. I could be remembering them incorrectly. It was a while ago that I saw the commercial. |
