Gotta love our crazy springtime weather here in Denver. Today, being Arbor Day, some Denverites volunteered to help plant new trees in several different city parks. Our forecasters had said that today would be cool, breezy, and overcast with a chance of rain later in the day. Well, it was about 45 degrees, gusty, and flippin' cold for tree planting. I was happy for the physical activity to keep the body heat generating. In the park where I was, we planted about 200 new trees in just under 3 hours. Good thing we finished up early, because by noon the temps had dropped considerably and there were snowflakes falling from the heavy grey clouds. And now, 2 hours later, the sun is shining again (but it's still windy).

Guess it's a good thing I got this volunteer activity in while I could. After my upcoming surgery, I won't be able to be a volunteer trail builder for National Trails Day on June 3rd. :darn: Oh well, that's a small price to pay.

TribbleMom,

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Colorado and a tiny bit in Utah at the end of May the year we got married. We landed in Denver in fairly mild sunny whether. Then I remember seeing snow going through Rocky Mountain National Park. Later we hit desert country in western Colorado and it was in the 90's. On the last day, driving from Black Canyon of the Gunison (I may have spelled that wrong) back to Denver, it was pouring rain. We came back from that trip thinking we had seen about all the weather varieties there are (excluding the extremes - hurricanes and tornadoes, etc.) and it was all in a 1 week period.

The weather has been warm and cloud free all day. Now its overcast and it could hail after while.

Did you have fun today?

You do the trail building at other times too, don't you?

I'm taking a break today.... and the only way that happened is that I put my gladiator to work for 8 hours during the day. So I can't touch the game for 8 hours.

It's a sickness I tell you. It's a sickness.

It's been a great stress reliever and a good distraction after work.

Work fight work fight work fight.... Oh the life of a gladiator.

Tribblemom, when are you setting up for the game? ;)

It's a beautiful Sunday morning. I'm going to destress and work on the backyard.
I borrowed a power washer so I should be cleaning off patio furniture and enjoying the beeeeyoooootiful weather.

I think spring is finally here.

IE, it's a bit of a joke around here, but Colorado residents understand it well ... this is one place where you need to fire up the furnace in the morning, turn on the air conditioner in the afternoon, and need the furnace again at night.

We do have tornadoes here on the eastern plains, but (so far) we haven't had a hurricane. Other than that, you really can find all kinds of weather here, sometimes in the same day. And certainly, if you go from the plains to the mountains, you can go from warm and sunny skies to a winter blizzard. I've seen snow falling on July 4th in the higher elevations.

Yes, doing a little volunteer work always makes me feel better about myself, and when it's physical work, you can end the day tired, but it's that "good tired" feeling.

And, yes, I may still be able to do some trail building later. My workplace has organized a voluntary "give back to the community day" and the past 3 years we have done trail construction. Of course, they pick July to do it ... just about as hot as we can possibly get.
