Painting and redecorating almost always turns out to be a hassle. :thud:

As I sit here and try to watch this Keira Knightly's version of "Pride & Prejudice", I wonder how people endured this movie at the theater.

Boring is an understatement. I haven't been able to watch these types of period pieces in a long time though. Masterpiece Theatre used to do some pretty good period pieces.

While you are watching a refined period piece. I just watched "Alvin and the Chipmunks".

It was pretty good.

I would rather have been watching "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Was that the version that came out at the theater late last year (or thereabouts)?

I stopped watching that "refined" *cough* garbage *cough* piece not long after I typed those ealier comments.

I'm watching Star Wars (Episode I) right now. Just popped on while a commercial is on.

It was the theater version that was out a few months ago.

I seriously think I'm going to get the soundtrack!

The movie didn't get great reviews, but loved those goofy little guys (the cartoon). I would probably like the movie too.

Pointless story. No real plot but those Chipmunks were cute. Dialogue was a bit over the top, specially when watching with a bunch of little kids.

I have a nephew running around now saying, "Kiss my furry cheeks". I had to explain to my sister what he really meant to say was "Kiss my #ss".

I was checking out the news and came across this article: Bush Remarks on the Columbia Free Trade Agreement. I wonder if they will figure out there's a spelling error..  Maybe it's a type-o. The whole article has the correct spelling.

Well, this year is certainly turning out to be a stressful one so far. I wonder how many more expenses my family can endure. That $2,000 air handler just turned into $4,545 because they convinced me I should be replacing the outside compressor as well as the inside air handler. They are changing the freon type in two years so, if I don't replace the whole thing with the new type now, then they would have to stick with the old type just to do the air handler alone. That means that when I eventually need to replace the outside compressor, I would have to replace the inside air handler again to make them both the new type. It seems my outside unit isn't functioning very efficiently anyway so, after weighing it all out, it seemed to make more sense to do it all now. :thud:

24, you can look for extra money in my savings if you really want to, but you'd better hurry before it's all cleaned out! :D

We had a good time in Atlanta. We went to the zoo there as well as the new aquarium. Both are good takes, but the aquarium was extremely crowded. I don't remember any place I've ever been being that crowded. It was literally wall-to-wall people and hard to move at times, but the aquarium was very well done. I must say though, after a couple of hours of fish, enough is enough. :D

I also managed to catch a cold which arrived in full force on Friday. Today I'm finally starting to feel like it's clearing up some. It must be because of that "get well" card my daughter made me yesterday. There's no better medicine. :)

Well you are just having a time lately. :(

At least you had a nice vacation overall. I have been in packed areas like you describe and its almost not worth continuing the tour (or whatever it maybe). I feel very rushed in those situations and can't take the time to enjoy what I am looking at.

I had to double check the spelling of Colombia myself. Oh my.

Well look on the bright side IE. Are you getting any of that stimulus money in May?

See, if you moved back north, you wouldn't have to deal with air conditioners being on most of the year.

There's always something. You get ahead a little and something comes up. Never fails.

Well you are just having a time lately.  :(

Yep. And for one more little detail, the air compressor has to be shipped from Tampa, so instead of getting it installed today, it will be installed tomorrow. In the meantime, the charge that they put in our AC last week has worn off and it was 81 degrees in here last night. Because my house is being painted this week, they took the screens out so we couldn't even open the windows (that is, unless we didn't mind mosquitos). The only screen left is on the sliding glass door, so we put our mattresses on the family room floor by that door to sleep last night. However, there were 2 house break-ins in our neighborhood last fall during the night while people were at home sleeping so I didn't particularly like leaving the sliding glass door open all except the screen. That also meant the house alarm couldn't be set. And, sure enough, at about 1:00am, there was some loud bang that sounded like something fell inside our house. I never did figure out exactly what made that bang, but it sure made going back to sleep quite difficult. *sigh* But, a little lost sleep as opposed to a real burglary... ok, I'll take the lost sleep.

You're right. I would have to deal with getting my furnace fixed instead. :D And that means, I'd be c-c-c-cold instead of hot. No thanks! :no2:

You're not kidding. The trouble is, it has been a lot of somethings lately. We put a little money aside for unexpected repairs every month. For the past year or so, there have been so many things that that money has been shrinking instead of growing. Just a few months ago, I was thinking that we really need to build that back up before something big comes up. Oh well, too late. This will use up what's left and a lot more.

I almost forgot, I nearly got into an accident yesterday too. It's the closest I have ever come. There was a border piece to my garage door that was starting to rot so the painters said they would replace it free of charge if I went and got the piece. So I was heading to Home Depot on a three lane highway. I was in the right lane and then pulled into the middle lane. As soon as I did that another car pulled into the spot where I had come from so there was no going back. Meanwhile this car in the far left lane decided to pull in the middle lane where my car now was. I had no where to go. I saw him coming and I honked my horn, but he just kept coming and coming. I couldn't break because someone was on my tail (gee THAT never happens ) so I accelerated as fast as I could while still blowing the horn. I have no clue how we didn't collide. He never stopped and we must have missed by literal inches. He continued to move to the right until he was in the far right lane. The next thing I know he's back in the far left lane and pulling in front of me to again cut into the far right lane. Ok, so now it becomes clearer why I almost got into an accident. What a complete jerk weaving all over the place with total disregard for other cars on the road!

IE,

The things that are happening to you... it might be time to call in priest, a shaman or some other spiritual individual to bless your home. :ermm: :P

There have been a couple of break-ins in my neighborhood too. Despite that, I feel pretty safe. I have never felt comfortable sleeping with a window open though. I've heard/read too many stories about people sneaking into windows to burglarize or hurt people in the middle of the night. We can't react very quickly to threats like we can when awake.

On the occasions that I have had to sleep with a window open (when the air conditioning was broke  ), I could never sleep easy.

So have they started painting your house yet? What color did you decide on?

Who's painting? IE got a professional painter? Where? When's he free? Send him up. While we're at it, if there's any extra paint, send that up to with the painter.

What is up with these insane drivers? :realmad: My blood pressure goes up just listening to the story. Anytime you get in your car anymore, it's defensive driving. Are drivers usually that aggressive in Florida? Up here in my part of PA, it's not that bad. Actually, it's almost the opposite. You have slow drivers in the passing lane and stuff like that. Those four way crossings without a stoplight are a trip. Everyone is busy signing everyone to go ahead. "No, you go ahead". "No way Mr., you got here first, YOU go first". The total opposite of aggression. And THEN on top of that, when someone gives you leeway, you're supposed to acknowledge the other driver with a wave, salute or tip of the hat.

"The nerve of that woman, she didn't even wave when I forced her to go ahead.."

And what's up with this not being able to sleep with the windows open? Wow. There have been times when I forgot to close my garage door and the door was open all night. I have to be more careful and conscientious, my fault. I know.

BUT IF Y'ALL LIVED UP NORTH...... Come on up everybody!

You know, you're not kidding. In fact, there was another thing I forgot about until just now. When we arrived home from Atlanta on Sunday evening, we had just started unloading the luggage and the power went out in the whole neighborhood. It was only out for about an hour, but we had made a quick stop at the store on the way home to get a few things like milk and lunch meat. But, not knowing how long the power would be out, we didn't want to open the refrigerator to put them away. Plus, unloading the car with flashlights wasn't exactly ideal either. I must say I am starting to wonder... :ermm: :D

I normally feel safe in our neighborhood too. But, it helps to have all the doors and windows shut with the security alarm on.

They actually just finished. I thought it would take longer, but it looks very good. :) (Hey, something went right! Does that mean something's wrong? ;)) We stayed close to the color we had which was and still is tan. But the old tan was so light that it almost looked pink after it faded with age. The new tan is darker. The trim is an off-white and the front door is dark brown. We have a home-owners association so we were limited to shades of tan, yellow, and pink to begin with.

Intrepid,
I wish I could send the painter. He does good work :) But he doesn't paint out of state.

Drivers in Florida are rude and obnoxious. Having lived in Massachusetts, I can honestly say drivers in Florida are WORSE. They cut you off, sit on your tail, close gaps so you can't get into their lane even when your signal is on, ignore yield signs, run red lights, drive on the shoulder when traffic is backed up, make their own shoulder when there isn't one... it's unbelievable. I even had one driver try to get me to pull over to fight him once because I let him know he had ticked me off. Sometimes I think we have it backwards and maybe apes evolved from humans - they seem better behaved at times.

As far at the windows go, I wouldn't feel safe leaving them open up north either. :no2:

Sounds good.

I'm not really fond of home-owners associations though. There has got to be something unconstitutional about their oversight.

All a home-owner should have to contend with is the legal system. If you want to paint your house blue *gasp*, then that is your business.

I can probably come up with some exceptions (i.e. possible useful HOAs), but in general that is my opinion.

That's pretty rude at 11:18 pm though.

Well, the house is finished being painted and it looks great. :) I couldn't find anyone that knew of a good painter beforehand so I had taken a shot in the dark with this one and it worked out. I simply looked up 4 people in the yellow pages, got estimates, and chose one based upon price and my first impression of his professionalism and experience.

We now have a new air conditioning system too. It seems to be ok, but I was concerned about the two hard-luck looking cases that showed up to install it yesterday. I have seen a lot of employees of this AC company over the years and have always been impressed with their overall attitudes and courtesy. You don't always see that from people in those kinds of jobs. But these two yesterday... One seemed to be a trainee and the other seemed to hate his job. After all the bad luck I seem to be having lately, I thought "Uh-oh". Oh well, they got the job done even if it did take them the entire day from 8:00 am to 5:15 pm to install it. I just hope it's all done right. :ermm:
