We are finally supposed to get some wintry weather tomorrow. Unfortunately, it is supposed to be sleet.

You got snow? In South Carolina? We STILL haven't got any snow in Pittsburgh!! How is everyone doing? I feel like I just got off one big shift. Pretty soon instead of having 12 hour rotations, we'll be doing the 1 week rotation. One week on, one week off. I finally have the day off today so I guess I'll go grab my bucket and handy dandy cleaning supplies and tackle the bathroom and the kitchen. Oh the life of glamour I lead. I'll catch you all later. Stay warm everybody. By the way 24, if you need a snow shovel, I'll give you mine. I haven't used it once.

Yep. I live in one of those areas that gets four definite seasons. We usually get some kind of ice/snow/sleet during the winter. Just nothing like you would see in your area. That snow melted by the next day because it started out as snow and quickly turned to sleet. We are getting more snow all day tomorrow (supposedly). It will start out as rain late tonight and turn to snow by the morning. It is supposed to snow all day tomorrow too. I have a snow shovel, so I won't need to borrow yours right now.
So, are you happy about a one week on/one week off rotation? |

24, I'm glad you got to see some snow and have a bit of winter. Have you gotten any more after that? We just got about 2 more inches overnight in my part of Denver. It's really funny how different parts of town can get such varying amounts of snow. So guess what? I'm going snowshoeing again today. Maybe not up quite as high in the mountains as last time. Intrepid, I hope you like your new rotation schedule. When you work that entire week on, are your work days still 12 hours long? I would imagine you really have to pay for that week off by a ton of work during the week on. |

That was just one of the proposals presented to hospital administration and management by some nurse advocates the other day. Nothing set in stone yet. Personally I'm against it. There is no use in going to work if you are not physically and mentally 100% For as many young men and women going into the nursing field, not many stay, especially those who are in it for the wrong reasons. So I'm one of those who voted against it but there are others, especially those with families and young children who think it's good for the family life as well. Because of this, the nurses in the hospital where I work can pretty much dictate how much time they are willing to work and nurse managers are happy to take whatever they can to get shifts covered and enough people on the floor to take care of patients. Personally, I think it was just a ploy by administration to make us think we have a say in stuff. "Throw them nurses a little tidbit and make them think we care. " Sorry for the rant. Give me some snow!

^^^ So sorry to hear that, Intrepid. Seems that anyone in the Medical fields gets walked all over many times because it's a 24/7 vital service. It's too bad that the caregivers have to have the short end of the stick ... and they're the ones we're all depending on to not make mistakes and give us their best. My hat is definitely off to nurses, who have extremely tough jobs with very little thanks.

An occasional rant is good for the soul. ![]() My aunt is a Nurse Practitioner (has done a lot of Acute and Emergency Care), and I have heard similar things from her over the years. She's older and getting closer to retirement age, but she has so much work and educational experience that she has been able to dictate her own schedule for years now. She's a "work horse" too. I think you have to have an extremely strong work ethic to be be effective and succeed in that particular field. |

Several months back, Netflix added the ability to watch certain movies online for no additional charge. So, around midnight last night, when I really should have been going to bed, I was browsing their most recently added movies to this service. And there I found Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Even though I own the DVD and can watch it anytime, I couldn't resist temptation and decided to watch just 5 or 10 minutes.
![]() About an hour later, I finally pried myself away...

I was watching TV earlier when a weather news teaser popped up during a commercial break (“this report coming at 11:00pm" kind of thing). The meteorologist said something like, “we are in store for harsh weather conditions this Thanksgiving”. I thought, “Thanksgiving”? ![]() That man was either really confused or the tech people played the wrong clip. |

Y’all, I went ahead and merged “The Reflecting Pool” and “Inner Realm” in with the Blogophere forum in preparation for the ZetaBoard conversion (whenever that is going to happen
). When you see the new Zeta layout you will get a better idea why I did this. The forums are spaced differently making the face of the board a little bigger than with IF. If one isn’t careful with their forum setup, they could easily find themselves with a football field length message board with the ZetaBoards.

^^^ But it should be back on next week. Did anyone happen to watch the Garth Brooks concert that aired in that time slot? I saw a littl of it ... I think retirement has allowed his voice to get a bit out of shape. Like any other muscle, you've got to keep your singing voice practiced and toned. |
