Good morning everyone! We haven't gotten any decent snow around here in a long time. I don't consider a flake or two a snow. ![]() I might check the farmer's Almanac soon to see what the snow patterns have been like in my area for the last decade. Our winters of late, have been pretty unmemorable. |

Intrepid, snowshoeing is a relatively easy outdoor winter sport for people who are too wussie to go skiing (like me ... I don't want to go hurtling downhill on waxed wood slats, careening into trees). Decades past, it was akin to strapping oversized tennis raquets onto your feet to help prevent you from sinking into the powdery snow. But advances in snowshoe technology have led to a pivoting foot-cradle so that you can walk with a much more natural gait. There are usually some kind of "claws" on the bottom of the foot cradle to grip into the slippery snow, and the large platform helps spread out your body weight so that your feet and legs don't sink into the snow in what is known as "postholing." Snowshoeing is pretty much like hiking in summer ... just walking. The big difference is that in winter you can cut across frozen lakes and follow the open path of a frozen river. Those pics were from just this past Saturday. Where we went wasn't really dangerous (although there is always a certain amount of danger any time a person ventures into the backcountry), and lots of people use that trail in winter. Usually the worst danger in snowshoeing is when you cross an area prone to avalanches. But I usually avoid those areas entirely. The rangers can always tell you where those areas are, and there are even people whose job it is to predict when and where avalanches are likely by studying the terrain and the snowpack. I'll work on a photo blog fairly soon ... some weekend when I have a little extra time and don't mind being on the computer for a while. Lots of days after work I can barely stand to look at one. |

Hello everyone. I'd like to make the declaration that I'm healthy. A little congested but I've already been back to work and these little sniffles, stabbing sore throat, congested chest and body aches are nothing compared to what other people have to go through. I'm ashamed for complaining. There is one unexpected perk though. My voice is still a little deep and raspy. I would like to call it my "Zelda" voice. "Hello big guy.... where would you like it? Your shot that is... your left arm, your right arm or other?" You should see the patients looking for the nearest exit. The weather has been a freaky 67F here in the Burgh. They expect it to go higher today and maybe break a record of some kind. Unbelievable for this time of year. Something is amiss. Oh well, hope you all have a good day today. Remember to wash, wash, wash your hands all the time. Talk to you all later, Intrepid |

^^ Have a good one. Glad you are feeling better.
Something like this lady Democratic commentator (I forget her name) who occasionally appears on FOX News. I believe she is a lawyer. She has one of those deep raspy voices. Sounds like what I think Zelda would sound like. ![]()
Definitely something amiss. The temperatures have been in the high 70s the last few days. It was freezing just last week. |

Yes, it rains a lot here. Not as much as people would have you believe though. ![]() My avatar will be changed. Shortly. ![]() Yes, it snows here too. Not like it does in the US - our winters are much warmer due to the Gulf Stream, but we get snow. Usually early in the year, up until about may sometimes. |

HGTV. Who knew? So I'm channel surfing and this guy named Carter has a show called, "Carter Can". Carter can what? Captial G as in gorgeous. Environmentally conscious and very handy. hmmmmm.....Okay, I'm hungry and a little delirious. Maybe I'll change the channel. |

I watched Ugly Betty and Men in Black last night. Hard to believe that movie is almost eleven years old (1997). Where is the time going? Fun movie to watch. That was a pretty good pairing (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones). |

Men in Black was made eleven years ago? Right now, ET is on AMC. That movie was made 25 years ago. Time goes by so fast. |

Yep, hard to believe. But it came out almost eleven years ago. ET is a movie that I haven't seen in forever. Such a great movie, but I never get in the mood to watch it. Mmmm... Reese's Pieces. |

I think I must have been using this emoticon too much lately.Yesterday my hard drive crashed at work and refused to boot up at all. (Inwardly I was
)However, it does present the problem that, until the unit gets fixed or replaced, my work just continues to pile up and I fall further behind. Oh well, job security. It did present the opportunity to chat with my boss and his boss as well about how poorly this new software is serving us. I asked my boss's boss if there was any hope for change in the future, or else I might have to reconsider my ability to remain with the company. He assured me that, since I and many others had voiced frustrations far beyond the initial "getting accustomed to a new system" growing pains, some of the higher-ups were actually starting to listen. (IT'S ABOUT TIME!) A change for the better will still take a good deal of time and patience in waiting for it. I hope I have enough. |

^^ The software must be pretty bad if people are considering finding other jobs as a result. Hopefully since you aren't the only one expressing legitimate displeasure over the software, your bosses will make some changes. They will if they don't want to lose good employees. |

Apparently the software is great for our buyers, but hell for the rest of us. I think enough people have complained, and we've given it 3 months of numbers-crunching to prove that it's slowing us down. My boss's boss was able to give me assurance the the big-wigs are starting to listen to all the complaints. Now all we need is the actual fix, which will still take some time and still require a great deal of patience. If he had not been able to give me that much assurance, I would have seriously started looking elsewhere. But I can manage to squeeze out some more patience as long as I know this is temporary. If his answer had been, "Well, we bought it and now we're stuck with this and we just have to buck up and make it work," I would have been too discouraged to try to stick it out. I really am motivated to stay at this job, as I do enjoy its side benefits (i.e., great discounts and not having someone micro-manage me). Also, I'm only one more year away from getting an additional week's paid vacation. |
