Today, I am seeing more and more of the isolation and insulation. People are losing touch with each other and are forgetting how to look beyond their own immediate satisfaction. Used to be that people smiled and acknowledged each other walking down the street. Now most folks are plugged into an ipod or MP3 and just walk by ignoring everyone else. :borg:

I've noticed the same. In fact, the Friday before Labor Day, I walked into my daughter's school to pick her up a little early because we had a plane flight to catch. Some other father was picking up his daughter too. He had this big smile on his face and, as we passed by, I said "hi". His smile fell, he looked almost offended, and he said "hi" rather coldly. It was like I somehow intruded merely by saying "hi".

I fought that "bug" a little bit longer than 24 did.  I had an annoying headache and felt nauseated for a week.  I think maybe I've been hitting the caffeine a little bit more than usual.  I was drinking those so called "energy" drinks to get me going but I see now that they have terrible side effects.  I think I finally purged that stuff out of my system.
Never again.

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. It sounds like all that is gone now though, so that's good news. :)

I didn't have that particular bug, but I had a minor cold in the middle of August. For some reason, I still haven't quite gotten rid of the cough. I'm beginning to think I may have to get it checked. But, for me, when it comes to doctors and medicine - the less I see, the happier I am. So I'll probably procrastinate awhile longer.

Wow, that is an odd reaction.

Most people around here are still somewhat polite when out and about.

I'm watching an old episode of Designing Women and remembering how much I used to love watching this show. :D

Ah, yes, an excellent show. Go get 'em, Julia! She could launch into a good old-fashioned tirade ever now and then.

I find very few inspirational characters on TV, but Julia definitely was one for me.

Such a strong, impassionate and classy lady. She almost always knew the right thing to say.

Except for that one time when she went to her son's wedding and got drunk. That wasn't a pretty sight. :rotfl: She was human though. :)

For those who didn't see the episode, her son was marrying a much much older woman. That threw Julia for a loop and she had a difficult time dealing with it. She ended up drinking a bit too much champaign.

I got three days off in a row and I'm off for the weekend KOTers. I'm literally at a point in my life where I need to get in a car and drive in any direction. I'll see where my gas tank gets me.

Enjoy your weekend everybody. See ya when I get back. :wave2:

I think it might refer to a big wet sloppy kiss being thrown in our general direction.

Have a great road trip, Intrepid.

After having spent last evening watching the 5-yr-old grandson play flag football, and this morning watching the 11-yr old grandson play junior football, I'm taking tomorrow for myself. That means trying to get away to the high country again. If the weather holds well, I'll venture into the Indian Peaks Wilderness area (so named because most of the peaks there are monikered after Native American tribes) to attempt Mount Audubon at 13,223 feet elevation. Guess I just don't feel like I've hiked enough yet this summer. Maybe I can squeeze one more in before the snow hits up there.

Hope the weather holds for you.

Seems like just yesterday that you were talking about the snow giving way to let you go hiking.

How soon will you start to see snow accumulation in your area?

Yeah, I've seen that one, too.

The weather was less than optimal, but held OK for the morning. Mostly sunny, but windy. There was a steady wind from the west, usually the harbinger for a front moving in. Sure enough, it started raining about 1:45 pm, but by that time I was half-way down again. In the morning, I was really happy I had thrown a fleece earband and gloves into my pack, as they made for a much more comfortable hike. I made the summit about 11:30, and left by noon as the clouds were building. In the afternoon, I was really happy I had a full rainsuit. This time of year, we're just lucky this was rain instead of snow (although I was fairly prepared for that, too).

Snow has already flown in the high country. It just melted off in the sun again. However, once it snows again, it may stick around more this next time.

Anyway, here are some sights from today's walk:

FYI, this little pika is about 7 inches long. Cute, isn't it? This mammal harvests tundra grasses all summer and stores them to dry as its food supply all winter. They're very busy this time of year, scurrying around the rocks stashing their "haystacks". They live mostly in the rocky areas above timberline. This particular one was so busy harvesting grass that it came within one foot of my boot.

Goodnight 24! :wave2:

Anyway, since I have the floor, I'm back. Got as far as New Jersey. Would have driven further except the ocean was in the way. Next time I'll have to travel West and then maybe I'll find myself in TribbleMom's neck of the woods.

Those pictures are fabulous by the way TribbleMom. You say the weather was bad? Looked pretty good to me. I ran into a little rain on the road. Supposedly remnant of some hurricane but I haven't watched TV in a week so what I'm hearing could be wrong.

I need to hit the sack myself. Goodnight everybody.

Intrepid,

I would have turned around when I hit New Jersey too. ;)

Seeing the ocean sounds nice about right now. I haven't been to the beach in six years.

TribbleMom,

Great photos.

I especially like the Grand Lake photo (something interesting about the
formation), the background/sky photo of Mt. Meeker and the Mitchell Lake photo. And that Tribble is cute as a button!

This morning I felt the first signs of Autumn. Very exciting when that happens. :wow: It is supposed to be in the low 50s/60s early in the morning all week. It will warm up later in the day though.
