Hey, Impulse Engine checked in again ... nice to see you. I don't imagine that letting the children go is very easy at all. Never had any of my own, but I'm getting a taste of it with the step-grandkids. I get nervous when they go across the street to the playground in the park there, and we can even see that from our window. Gotta let them grow up sometime, though, I guess. Intrepid, glad you survived your weekend with the kids. Sounds like a good outing. Should give the kids a nice memory of a fun time with their auntie. BTW, I'm over half-way through the latest Harry Potter book and making quick progress. Mel, good luck with your upcoming college courses. Sirus, are you drying out from the typhoon yet? Big Boss, is toast your usual breakfast? I'm big into protein first thing in the morning. Seems to last longer through the morning for me. Fortunately I don't have to worry about my cholesterol level (which I monitor yearly), so I'm a bacon and eggs person. It's just sugar that's a problem for me, so I don't get any of those yummy donuts anymore. I've survived the first day of testimony in that homicide trial. It's quite taxing paying attention to every word and trying to figure out if the witness really is telling the truth or not. So far, we heard at least 3 witnesses that I don't think are credible at all. Not looking good for the prosecution ... not convincing me of their case, and I keep thinking of the "innocent until proven guilty" axiom. Have you ever heard that it's difficult for a Libra to make a decision? Well, let me tell you that having to sit on a jury and weigh all the evidence is excruciating for a Libra. |

Hey Impulse! Thanks for stopping by. Sorry I missed you. Time zones you know.
My deepest sympathies Tribble, I have never had the pleasure of jury duty, but I can only imagine the suffering. I am moved to quote the immortal George Carlin when he said, "The way I get out of jury duty is I tell the selection board that I can tell if someone is guilty just by looking at them." Or something like that. Thanks, the typhoon has come and gone, there was a residual thunderstorm left that passed over today, but the sky is mostly clear tonight, although it's kind of hard to tell with all the light pollution. You know, when I lived in Califonia and Ohio I lived close to major metropolitan areas, but both places were pretty much outside the main city area. It's taken some getting used to being in the middle of it all all the time. But, I digress. Intrepid, great to see you made it back in one piece and your sanity about you. Sounds like you and the kids had a great time. Leave it to Auntie Moogie to give the kids one final blowout before school starts again. Back to the schedule of school and work, but enjoying it. It's keeping me out of trouble. I'm still a non-smoker and have hardly had anything to drink for the past month and a half. I know I sound redundant but the affirmation is good for me. I'm starting to get pretty attached to Tina, we've been texting each other several times a day now and call each other every night since she left Sunday. Which might be hard soon because she's going back to Michigan this October. Hope you all are enjoying yourselves. (And not like that Mike. You and your filthy mind.) j/k

Smoking is one vice I will never pick up. Glad you have kicked the habit.
That sounds nice. Be careful with that texting though. I hear it can send your phone bill sky high. |

It turns out I was partially right about my uneasiness yesterday. My daughter got out of the car and there were many kids standing outside the front entrance. She's a kindergartener in an elementary school so there are plenty of bigger kids. She was afraid to go through them to walk in the building at first. I had seen an expression on her face that told me something wasn't right as I drove away and that was why I felt disturbed all day yesterday. Of course, it all worked out though. Today, she walked right in the building like a pro.
24, you aren't kidding about "it seems like not too long ago..." I clearly remember bringing her to the baby room at her daycare and looking at the 4-year-olds and thinking "it will be a long time before she's that big". Now she has left the 4-year-olds behind... Mel, your daughter's kindergarten was yesterday and my daughter's 6th grade will start tomorrow... ![]() Intrepid, I didn't know you were on vacation, but it sounds like you had a good time. Sorry, I can't help you with what you missed here though. TribbleMom, I'm a Leo and I suspect I would have the same difficulty making a decision with all that evidence to listen to. Especially in that kind of a case, I'm sure you really want to get it right. You don't want to convict an innocent person, yet you don't want to let a guilty person get off scott-free. You're going to have to treat yourself to something when it's all over just for making it through. Sirus, have you been over there this whole time or did you return to the states for the summer? |

I'm going to treat myself to a lot of alcohol when this trial is done. (I barely ever drink, except for a couple of beers now and then). Yes, I want appropriate justice to be served, as a 16-yr-old boy is dead, but I do not want to send a person to life in prison if he didn't really pull the trigger. It is a weighty responsibility. One of the things weighing on my thoughts is that all of the people involved are about the same ages as my niece and nephew. That's far too young for senseless, deadly violence initiated by a nothing more than a few insulting words. The testimony has been completed and all evidence submitted. Tomorrow we hear closing arguments and receive our instructions from the judge about exactly what the law says and how we must use it to weigh the evidence. Then we begin deliberations. The Zodiac sign for a Libra is the scales ... I hope that comes in handy for me. The other bit of peachy news I received today (via e-mail from my co-worker) is that my workplace wants us to work this entire weekend. It's our busiest time of the year, and this happens now and then in August and September. Fortunately it doesn't happen every weekend. After a homicide trial, going back to work to put price tags on skis and parkas will seem like a picnic again. IE, I hope the rest of the year goes well for your daughter. Bigger kids can be really intimidating. Whatever you do, PLEASE keep her away from anyone that has any kind of ties to a gang. She may be encountering those people sooner than you think. Sirus, good for you, keeping away from the alcohol and cigs. Well done.

Whoa there pardner.... did I just see IE? *whooosh* and there he went..... Anyway, so happy to see you again IE. I can't believe the little one is in Kindergarden. Pass the tissue please. I got emotional even if they aren't my kids. I remember my sister used to "let" her little one ride the school bus but darned if she didn't follow the bus in her car just to make sure the little one got to her class safely. I think that went on through first grade. TribbleMom. Jury duty? How much is the daily rate for being a juror these days. What if per chance you found out the defendant was a Star Trek hater?
Sirus and 24. I was the ONLY chaperone with 6 kids. I can honestly say all my nieces and nephews are very well behaved. Besides, bribery goes a long way. Nah just kidding. It was a great excuse to get away. The weather was fantastic. Mel and Big Boss... what are you guys up to these days? The place looks mahvelous 24.

TribbleMom, I'm glad that trial is almost over for your own sanity. Sounds like it has been a very stressful situation.
Lucky they were well behaved. That many kids could have easily thrown you for a loop. ![]()
Thanks. Its all for you... its all for you... all.

State law requires my employer to continue to pay me my regular wages for the first 3 days of jury duty. After that, the State will pay me $50.00 per day. Of course, I may not receive that check for 6-8 weeks after the trial. Since we're going to be working this entire weekend, though, I won't be hurting on my regular paycheck. I just don't get much of a break. But again, not getting much of a break at this time of year is quite normal at my workplace. I've seen weekend work in August and September happen every year that I've been there, and we'll probably be working on Labor Day as well. Thankfully, it's only temporary. I guess my break is coming this morning, as the judge and lawyers had some of their mystical behind-the-scenes legal stuff to do before presenting closing statements. The jury doesn't have to come back until a bit later, so I got to sleep in this morning. Now will come the more difficult part, though, as we have to begin weighing the evidence against what the law says. I hope my Vulcan logic assists in the task. Since the jury members were told not to discuss the case before the close of the final arguments, I have no idea what the other 11 people are thinking, so I can't tell yet how long we will be in deliberations. Perhaps I will wear my Federation logo polo shirt today. It's the closest thing I have to a Starfleet uniform. Just a note ... if you ever get called to jury duty, remember to take a black pen and lots of chocolate. The chocolate helps the most. |

I think you're right. She came home all proud of herself last night because she had walked straight to her classroom with no assistance from anyone. I, of course, am proud of her too.

I'd say you've earned a few drinks! Wow, just 16? That's sad. I'm glad to hear the trial is progressing right along. At least you know it won't be too much longer now before you'll be done with it. As for my daughter, I will do everything I can to keep her away from gangs and the "wrong crowd" types of kids. I already have a lot of confidence in her in this regard too. Even in her preschool she showed a tendency to avoid the kids who were getting into trouble a lot. It seems my wife and I have already had some success in teaching her good morals. However, I also must say that she's been a little too wonderful in that regard for us to take all the credit. I believe some of it is just her. And you're right to point out how early troubled kids can come around. |

Hi all. Boy am I antsy to go home from work today. For no reason in particular, I've just had enough here this week. On another note, does anyone here besides me have things happen to them in two's? I have noticed this for years. For example, a couple of days ago, a rather large bird (not a vulture, but about that size) flew right in front of my car as I was driving. It was so close that I had to step on my brakes to avoid hitting it. That never happened to me before, but sure enough, it happened again this morning. I guarantee it won't happen again anytime soon. Just two times. These coincidences happen to me a lot - usually something odd and just two times. Strange.

Wow, that is strange. Things like that happen to me every once in a while. Or it will be a situation like I am reading or thinking about something, and not long after that I will see what I was reading or thinking about. Very freaky sometimes. Actually, I remember reading a thread or an article on my computer the other night and a commercial on the TV came on about that very topic. My mind just went blank and I can't remember what it was. ![]() I think I better start drinking ginseng or something.
