So Mike, I hear you have a new main squeeze! Details!!! ;)

Intrepid and 24, don't give up on having kids if you really want them. I know it seems that the field is full of shallow men, but the nice guys are just harder to find because we don't actively persue. Some of us are waiting for the women to show that they're interested. Problem is, we don't pick up so well on subtlety.

Wow, I'm off the boards for a couple of days and Big Boss shows up ... nice to see you back again.

Sirus, glad to hear the typhoon wasn't any worse than some downed trees. Although that lightning strike sounds way too close for comfort. You no doubt did feel some of of its jolt through your bike.

Intrepid, enjoy that van full of kids at the beach. :surf: That's cool to get to enjoy the youngsters for a few hours, and then giving them back to their parents at the end of the day so you can go put your feet up again in peace and quiet. And as for your niece, it will still be a long road yet. I think it took me about 9 months to get anywhere close to over my first real love. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her.

Thanks TM! Good to see you!

The Premiership (football) started yesterday here in the UK. My team - Manchester United - play a team called Reading (pronounced Red-ing) and hopefully they will stuff them.

STUUUUUUUUUUUUFF THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEM!!!!

And Chelsea get beaten by Birmingham. Mwhaha!!

Did David Beckham ever play for Manchester United?

Good morning everyone! Just ate a big breakfast. Trying to recover from spending the day with family yesterday. :P

I don't know about having kids Sirus. My patience is often tested just being around a bunch of pets. Which most everyone in my immediate family has a bunch of. So instead of kids running around at get togethers, we always have a pack of dogs running around playing and causing havoc.

Did David Beckham ever play for Manchester United?

Yep. He played for Manchester United from 1992 - 2003, scoring 62 goals in 265 appearances.

Posted Image

He left at the emd of the 2002/03 season after a bust up with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

At the start of that season he was injured and struggled to keep his place in the team. (He was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - another United legend - while injured)

Here is a video of probably his most famous goal, against Wimbledon back in the early/mid '90's (I forget the year )

Beckham goal

That was before he was famous. Before posh, before all the money, before he even played for England.

62 goals out of 265 soccer games/matches?

Is that average or above average for any individual player?

Seems like a low number of goals for a "super star."

Thanks for the video link. I'll check it out a little later. I will be heading out soon.

Well, compared to some it is quite low, but that is due to the position he played in.

He wasn't a striker, he plays on the wing. The 'winger's' main role is to recieve the ball in the midfield, and run down the flanks and to try and get into a position where the ball can be 'crossed infield to an attacking player. Midfield is all about creating the chances for the strikers.

When Beckham was at his peak, there was no player in the world that could match his accuracy, and he was deadly from free kicks.

So what do I do? Some of you are waiting to let you know we're interested?

Is ;) subtle enough? Sometimes men are so dense you have to do this.... :nanner: Or this.... :whip: I understand men must actively pursue but sometimes they get overly aggressive. I hate that. I'd rather :tvhappy: or go out with a placid, boring :borg: What's wrong with being friends for ten years or so before getting serious.

Kids? I think it's getting late for that for me. The clock is ticking... tick tick tick and if I go with that ten year prerequisite..... nevermind. A day at a time.

I have watched the clip now. That was a pretty awesome kick!

Wimbledon's Goalie seemed totally unprepared, but would have had a difficult time deflecting the ball at that angle anyway.

Beckham sort of congratulated himself by welcoming the cheers from the crowd. He's definitely not modest.

I'm taking 2 vacation days from work. :nanner:

Today I'm up early to go hike another 14er mountain. Probably the last of the season, as overtime is already in full gear at my workplace. I don't think this will be a pretty hike, as much of it is supposed to be through an old mining area. Guidebooks say I'm supposed to pass at least 5 mines on the lower half of the hike. Maybe the view from the top will still be worth the trip. It's certainly a more fun way to get my exercise than going to the gym.

From now on, it's nose-to-the-grindstone until about Christmas. I had to work this past Saturday, and the bosses informed us that we might very well work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of the Labor Day holiday weekend. Oh, the joys of supporting retail sporting goods.

Gotta go hit the trail (after a lengthy drive to the trailhead). Maybe I'll have some pics to share later. See you all later. :wave2:

Hey everybody! What's going on? Is there a chat room set up here? I'd love for us all to get together for a real time conversation.

So the barbecue was good. The last guests left at 5:45am Sunday morning. The barbecue started at 9pm the night before. It's a new record, although I don't think we should ever break that one. There were a good forty people over, and it was raining so anymore an it would've been a bit too much. John got four bottles of whiskey as gifts, and we still have half a giant bottle of sake and a full bottle of red wine. Tina came over last night, and we had a really good conversation. She's recently divorced too and it's so good to have someone to bounce stuff off of.

Intrepid, in response to being friends for several years first, that I think is the ideal situation. Unfortunately, most women I have been friends with want to stay friends and not take it to the next level. But that's just my personal experience. It's not easy for nice guys to be playful sexy. Sometimes it feels like it's impolite. It's not an easy lesson to learn. I'm still having a lot of trouble with it myself.

The Chatroom is inoperable at the moment. I took the old one out (quazi- chatroom/shout box), and will hopefully replace it with a traditional chatroom soon.

It is normally located in a sub-forum called "Observation Deck". You can find that sub-forum by clicking through the Information Slipstream forum.

Sounds like fun was had by all at the BBQ.

One of my dogs passed away today. She stopped eating this weekend and her breathing became labored/she was wheezing. I took her to the veterinary hospital this morning. They right away said her heart was failing, she had a heart murmur and had fluid in her lungs.

They kept her to give her a diuretic to see if they could get the fluid out of her lungs and to carryout a few blood tests. The doctor called me later and said she wasn’t getting any better and the additional tests showed that other major organs were shutting down too (in all... her liver, kidneys, heart and lungs).

She said that there wasn’t any hope of her getting better. So at that point I had to consider letting her continue on and suffer or allowing them to put her down. While I was thinking about what to do, the hospital called me back and said she had passed away on her own.

She was an older dog.

I am so very sorry for your loss 24. I'm glad her suffering was not prolonged and that you didn't have to go through the agony of making that decision. I'm sure you gave her as much love and joy as she gave to you.

Hang in there.
