Perhaps this one will be appropriate for Mel when Mr. Mel returns to Scotland. All good things ... But it sucks, doesn't it, Mel?24, are you sure those bots aren't actually some kind of Transformers? That movie is premiering, after all. I'm off to in a moment. I have the final 10 miles of the Mount Evans road to hike tomorrow. This is where it gets more fun ... usually higher up is where the mountain goats hang out. Better photo ops.

^^^ And you vill see a goat ... even a nanny with 2 kids. Here are links to some pics from today's scenery: http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...MountEvans1.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...=SummitLake.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...orreysPeaks.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...loudsrollin.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...t=MtnGoats1.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...t=MtnGoats2.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/Trib...t=MtnGoats3.jpg The weather in the morning was great, but by 1:00 the usual afternoon clouds built up and eventually rain moved in. That's pretty normal for regions above treeline (about 11,500 feet elevation). All in all, though, it was a great walk, and relatively easy for a 10-mile round trip. I think I'm in fair physical condition for tackling some other 14,000-foot peaks this summer. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but I really find these hikes relaxing, especially when I can see wildlife. |

Those are great pics! And the goats are cute as a button. Nice thick fur on them to keep warm. I especially like the third goat picture where the two are leaning on the rock edges.Did you go splashing around in the water when you reached the summit?

The pictures are beautiful Tribblemom! I love the goats. Did you use a zoom lens when you took their pictures or were you that close? How long did it take to complete the ten mile hike? |

You tell me.... how am I hangin'? Does this drumstick make me look fat? OY! Have you had one of those crazy days when you can't make anything go right? One step forward, three steps back?Oh well, the day is over and we get to start all over again tomorrow. What have you been up to these days 24? |

Glad you enjoyed the pics. I thought it was quite nice of those goats to pose so particularly well. And no, I didn't splash my feet in the lake ... there was still ice covering almost half the lake, so it was really cold! There was one point where, in the wind, I was happy that I had put some fleece gloves into my pack.

I do have a zoom lens on my camera, but the goats are also rather accustomed to people on that mountain, seeing as how you can drive right up. Mostly the goats seem content to just go about their business as long as you keep a respectful distance. I have at times just stood still or sat on a rock, and as long as I'm still, they'll come even closer. Because I like to take my time to enjoy the scenery and also stop frequently to take pics, it took a bit over 3 hours to go the 5 miles to the summit, and a bit over 2 to come back down. I also dallied for an hour at the top watching the clouds roll in, break apart, and roll in again. With all the clouds/fog (thick as pea soup at times), I figured that must be what the Scottish highlands look like, so I was enjoying the ethereal feel of the place. So what are you folks up to this weekend? Here, we're heading off tomorrow to the annual Renaissance festival. http://www.coloradorenaissance.com/ |

Oh my Tribblemom.... where do you find the time?
I've been awfully remiss. I should find the time to go out and enjoy nature. Are you being affected by the heatwave that's hitting the west? |

That looks like fun. The RF takes place in the Carolinas in October. Maybe I will try to go this year. I'm not doing anything special this weekend that I know of. |

My bf is gone now. I'm sad about it, but life goes on. We might see each other again around Christmas time, and if not that, my daughter and I are traveling to Scotland next summer. I miss him already and he's not even out of Canada yet! He's going to call me in less than half an hour before continuing his bus trip to Halifax. He's getting on the plane to Glasgow tomorrow night.

I knew the hanky girl would come in handy. At least you got to have a nice long visit with him. Maybe you will get lucky and get to see him at Christmas after all.
He's doing a lot of traveling to get out of Canada. Are you real far from a major airport? I don't think I have ever looked at a map of your area, so I don't know what major city you are nearest too. |

Well Halifax, Nova Scotia is where he'll be flying from, and that's where he flew to when he came to Canada. That's in Southern Nova Scotia. I live in Northern New Brunswick. It's about a 6 hour drive maybe. But with the bus transfers he's going through, it's more like an 11 hour drive. There is another big airport that's closer, but the airline he took(cheaper flights) didn't have a flight there. |

Whenever I hear or see the word "Halifax" I always then think of Prince Edward Island and Anne of Green Gables. What a great story/mini-series. I hate riding on buses. You get crammed in like sardines in a can. You definitely don’t want to get stuck sitting in the back near the toilet/bathroom. Someone inevitably has to take care of some stinky business.

Ah I see. Well, PEI is the neighbouring province to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. But you're in the right region. ![]() I've only taken bus rides a couple of times when I was younger, I don't really remember how it was. As far as I remember it, I enjoyed it, because I was actually going somewhere different. It was exciting to me.

At least I am in the correct region.
I think we mainly took road trips in cars when I was a kid. At the most down to the beach to go camping. |

I was just watching Entertainment Tonight and they showed a snippet of Steve Irwin's daugther... Bindi. They are really pimping that little girl out. She could have easily went on to have a somewhat normal childhood after the death of her father, but she is being shoved in front of the camera and the crowd at every turn. Makes me think the mother is ensuring there is a future meal ticket.
