This reminds me of the Charmin commercial with the bears. They go over to the tree and start unrolling the toilet paper to take care of business.

I forgot about that commercial. That was a good one. You're lucky to be around such beautiful scenery Tribblemom. Going in the woods wouldn't be a problem if I were surrounded by nature. I'd really love to be able to do what you did TM. Here I am contemplating bungee jumping for a quick adrenaline rush when I should be climbing mountains. You must be stress free TM. |

Actually, my doctor tells me I have pretty low blood pressure (still in the normal range, but on the low end), so I must be doing something right to relieve all the and and at work. You're correct that I feel lucky to live near such wonderful scenery. It would take a mighty large crowbar to ever get me to move from this area. You all really should come out here to visit some time. And don't worry, I wouldn't make anyone walk 18 miles to see good scenery; there's lots of great places you can practically drive right up to. This coming weekend I'm driving my mom up to my sister's mountain cabin (they purchased it several years ago as a weekend retreat). It's pretty rustic. No running water (we bring in all we need in big jugs) and they've only just this spring installed solar panels to have some electricity. When I visit there I relax by splitting logs for firewood, followed by a nap in a hammock beneath the swaying pines. Sorry, there's no place there for bungee jumping. However, in southern Colorado we do have the Royal Gorge bridge ... http://home.comcast.net/~lgott3141/Travel_...05_October.html P.S., I've got a few really busy days coming up, so I may not get back to post for a little bit. See you all again soon. Stay cool. |

^^ You like to relax by splitting logs/! Actually that's doesn't surprise me considering how much you love the outdoor life.
Don't work to hard. We'll see you on the flip side TribbleMom!

When my father was in the military we lived in Alaska for a while. Picnics and hikes till midnight... and it was still light! Colorado must be beautiful indeed. Tribblemom must live in the heart of it I suspect. Plus, I think I'd be put to shame pooping out after a mere two mile hike.

I still can't believe TM did an 18 mile hike in one day. I'm verklempt. 24, TM is going to have to get us through some rigorous training program. |

Hi, folks I'm back after a brief hiatus. I did get my mom up to that mountain cabin yesterday, and she really enjoyed the change of scenery. As Mom has aged, she's much less likely to take on a drive by herself through winding mountain dirt roads. A flat tire for me is less troublesome than it would be for a 78-year-old with osetoarthritis. Fortunately, we didn't go over any sharp rocks to give us any trouble at all. Wildflowers were blooming (columbine, Indian paintbrush, bluebells, lupine), and we were even lucky enough to spot the resident bull moose in a meadow about a mile from my sister's cabin. I switched gears really quickly this time and went into lazy mode before I could even pick up the wood splitting axe. So mostly I just sat on the front deck visiting with Mom and Sis and watching the hummingbirds. There were 5 feeders of sugar water hanging from the eaves, and we'd have up to a dozen hummingbirds all trying to eat from them at once. They were so close that my bro-in-law actually reached up and touched one! BTW, 24, I don't hike fast so don't be really impressed with my physical prowess. Apparently I do have stamina, though. I go out more to enjoy the walk and photograph what I see along the way than to set any speed records. My nephew easily hikes twice as fast as I do (sometimes we compare notes on the mountains that we've both been on). Interesting sidebar: There was one day last year when he was climbing a peak on one side of a valley, and I was hiking up a different one on the opposite side. When I summited, I looked through my binoculars toward that other peak, and I actually could make out a person on the other summit. I noted the time, and later when we both got back down to civilization, I emailed him to ask what time he had summited. Sure enough, it was my nephew over there! He would get really bored hiking with me, though, as I'm certain he considers my pace to be way too slow. Late last year he climbed his first "14er" (a peak over 14,000 feet elevation). It happened to be the first 14er that my sister and I did ... way back 25 years earlier. He and some friends decided to start at midnight with the hope of summiting in time to watch the sunrise. They accomplished that goal (he emailed me pics). But when he got back home, I guess he said to my sis, "Mom, I can't believe you actually went up there!" Portions of the trail are not very easy to climb, but we were a lot younger then. Hiking must be in our genes, and my nephew inherited it. My niece, on the other hand, would rather hang out at the mall. How was everyone else's weekend? |

My father was stationed on a small island called Ketchikan. There was a "small town" ambiance I've never experienced ever again in my life. It was rustic and whenever I see movies about small fishing towns, I remember Ketchikan. I remember living there for four years and then my father again had to move on to his next assignment. How's everyone doing tonight? Last night, a few friends and myself went off to check out the new casino that opened a mere 35 minutes away from my house. Remember the days when you had to go either to Nevada or Atlantic City to pull a slot machine? Well, PA has legalized gambling now. Politicians have promised us the moon but I'm still on the fence as to if the benefits of having legalized gambling will outweigh it's consequences. Nope, I didn't win zip. I just got home from watching a free outdoor movie concert. The borough where I live has summer "concerts" in the park. When it gets a little darker, you grab your chairs or blankets and sit in the park. They project a recorded concert against a white backdrop and crank up the volume. It sounds like a real concert! Tonight we watched Roy Orbison's "Black and White Night" concert he recorded back in the late 80's before he died. I never realized how good he was. His backup singers were Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, KD Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Jackson Browne and a host of other country singers and musicians. It was great. I'm a new fan. Goodnight everybody.

The site has been invaded by Inktomi Corporation Automated bots. From what I have been able to find out so far, Inktomi is now a subsidiary of Yahoo. They use the Inktomi software for their search features. So these Bots are I believe connected to Yahoo. There were apparently over 700 of them (709) online late last night. Don't worry though, they aren't the kind that actually try to register. They just gather information like the Google Bots. Also, registration is still restricted so you won't have to worry about actual people invading the Boards. Hopefully they will go away soon. -------- Welcome back TribbleMom! Glad your mom was able to go up with you. The story you tell of both you and your nephew climbing valleys opposite each other is pretty cool. ![]() Intrepid, that sounds like you had an adventurous childhood. ![]() I have been to a couple of outdoor events like you describe (concert and movies). They are pretty fun. I went to an outdoor showing of A Streetcar Named Desire one summer in D.C. I enjoyed that very much. They did that for part of the summer (showed old movies), but traveling at night in D.C. is not safe even with people with you. I tended to avoid that so I only went with a group of people that one time. |

But I was online last night and there were no Spambots. It must be me.... story of my life.
700 spambots? (I'm thinking Austin Powers fembots) Please explain. What exactly are these things, what can they do that would harm us in any particular way? Should we be afraid?

![]() No, you don't have to be afraid. The bots are web crawlers that crawl all over the Internet collecting information* for particular entities/search engine databases. In this case, it is for Yahoo (I suspect). They are pretty harmless in that they aren't out to get us (usually ). They however can be a nuisance for the people who maintain the servers that IF Boards are housed on. That kind of traffic (thousands of bots searching websites on any one server) can affect bandwidth and cause the server to slow down. Which in turn could cause this site to run a little bit slower. It just depends on how much activitiy the IF servers can take/maintain.According to KOT Statistics, they came on at 1:42am EST.
*The information they collect is anything that is visible on the threads. They can't get to anything that I have restricted access to for guests. |

:chickendance: :greed: :getmail: Edit: New emoticons have been added and I have taken the Board offline temporarily to see what the Bots will do. You can still log in as usual. Which you will have figured out if you are reading this comment.

Just checking if we can still post! Hehe, looks like it. Sorry I have not been around much lately btw. I'm having too much fun in my real life right now. But I'll more likely be back posting full time in about a week, when my bf goes back to Scotland. He leaves this Friday actually. But I start working my summer job next Monday so it'll keep me busy I suppose.

So what did you find out about the fembots 24? I like the new smileys 24 but I'm not quite sure what the second one down is. Is she blowing her nose on her hair ribbon? |

^ I learned that the fembots are here to stay. Or at least until they decide to move on to another site. ![]() They are able to visit the site even with the board being offline and when I have the board set up to require guests to log in to see the board (two different methods). They must have the base URL programmed in and just work their way through the thread numbers. Oh well, as long as we don't have hundreds of them browsing the site, we shouldn't have a probelm. This smilie ==> is of a girl who is crying and waving goodbye with her hair bow which she has turned into a hanky to blow her nose and wipe her tears away. I thought it was cute in a dramatic sort of way.
