Temporal anomalies, are they? Or are you just happy the weekend is coming up? I just had to remind myself a few minutes ago that I have to be at work at 8AM tomorrow. I almost forgot. I should make myself a post it note.

Good morning Intrepid! I'm gonna go with temporal anomalies instead of brain fart.
![]() The weather is headed back up into the 90s again (94° F) after several days of rain and moderate temperatures earlier this week. Have a good time in Philadelphia this weekend! |

Sorry I was off the boards for a couple of days. Hi again, everyone. BTW, Intrepid, I don't know if there are 12-step programs for people who like country music, but there are indeed 2-step programs. Polish up them thar boots.(Hope you have a great weekend in Philly). |

Yes, 24, I actually have something of a real life. Right now it's getting a little busier than normal. Grandsons are in Little League and T-ball, so we have some ball games to attend several times a week for the summer season. And in about 2 or 3 weeks, we're having a granddaughter. BTW, I was also a late-comer to the country music scene. When I was a kid, I thought that all country music was the really twangy Hank Williams kind of music. But a lot has changed in the last couple of decades. Singers such as Reba and Garth have convinced me that it's not all the same. Some of the singers I've enjoyed are Terri Clark, Martina McBride, Jo Dee Messina, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Bryan White, and the group Rascal Flatts have great harmony. |

Btw, I left off a winking smiley on my "life" comments. Many congrats on the arriving granddaughter! Sounds like good times are ahead for you. I used to dislike Country music. Except for a few songs sung by the oldies. Oh, and Dolly Parton. She's da bomb. Thought most of the music was one repeat after another and mostly sounded the same. There were a sprinkling of artists that occasionally caught my attention for various reasons over the years and because of their cross over appeal... Trisha Yearwood, Leanne Rhymes, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Deana Carter, Garth Brooks. Over the last couple of years I have really started to listen to some of the lyrics. The lyrics are like stories. Very intimate ones at time and you feel like these people are revealing something important about their own lives. I became very intrigued. It also helped that many of the newer country singers had a rock edge to them. I really like Brad Paisely, Carrie Underwood and more and more I have begun to equally like... Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Gretchen Wilson, Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Billy Currington, Sugarland, Miranda Lambert and even Kellie Pickler. I'm sure I missed some.

You know that old joke about getting messages from the devil if you play rock music backwards? Well, Do you know what you get if you play country music backwards? ... You get your wife back and you truck back and your dog back ...

It's been kind of a risky pregnancy. The mother is borderline diabetic, which poses health risks for both her and the baby. In fact, they thought she wasn't even able to concieve, but apparently she lost enough weight that her body finally allowed her to do so. We were all a bit surprised ... pleasantly so, but surprised nonetheless. She's been keeping up with all her regular checkups so the pregnancy has been well-monitored. We'll all be relieved when the delivery is actually over and we get good health reports from the docs. Meanwhile, we're keeping our fingers crossed yet. |

Hopefully all will go well. With her health being as it is, is the doctor recommending natural child birth or Cesarean Section? I imagine a prolonged birthing experience would be high risk. |

At present, they're still hoping to allow birthing to take place the natural way, but will be ready for a C-section if needed. I think it's a situation of having to see when the time comes. I'm off to bed early tonight. I will be rising very early in the morning to head for the cooler high country. The temps for downtown Denver are expected to reach 99 F tomorrow, so I think it's a good day to take a long walk in the mountains. Sometime last year I got the notion into my head that I wanted to walk the road that winds up Mount Evans (a prominant 14,000-foot peak due west of Denver). Every time I've driven that road before, I've seen someone hiking it, and I figured I'd try it too. You see so many more details when you're walking instead of driving. If I'm lucky, I hope to see marmots and bighorn sheep, even on the lower elevations of the mountain. Since the road is 14 miles to the summit (28 miles round-trip), I'll have to break it up into 2 separate hikes; I'm just not sure my middle-aged knees can tolerate 28 miles all at one shot. So tomorrow I'm starting at the bottom of the road and hope to reach a small lake at the base of the peak's north face. Round trip will be 18 miles if I make it to the lake. Weather forecast is indicating that our usual afternoon storms are not likely tomorrow, so maybe I'll have a lot of time to do this. If I'm successful, it will be the longest one-day hike I've ever made. I'll have to go back and finish the remaining 10 miles (at higher elevation and thinner air) on another day. Here's a link to the mountain's website: http://www.mountevans.com/ |

Wow, that is going to be some hike. More power to you! Better to see the wildlife than while driving by in a car. The scenery looks breath-taking in the photos on the website. |

Woo! I did it! All 18 miles. Good weather the whole day. Took a bit over 5 hours up and a bit over 4 hours down. That's faster than my normal pace in the mountains, but the grade wasn't too steep. Boy, was I ready for a big juicy hamburger when I got done. And I'm pretty certain I saw some things yesterday that were missed by folks driving by ... like the herd of about 50 elk way down on the valley floor. If you were going too fast, you never would notice those critters that far away. Good thing I packed binoculars. I also got to see pika, marmots, mule deer, and a few mountain goats perched way up high on a rock, just lying there watching all the traffic go by. Too far away for a good picture, though. It was amazing how many bicyclists were huffing and puffing up the road too. We have many avid cyclists in this state. I also saw one woman jogging up the road with her 2 dogs. She said she was preparing for a race in Leadville (the highest incorporated town in the U.S.). Can you believe running at high altitude? |

OMG! I can't believe you did that in one day TribbleMom! AMAZING! Question: What happens if you need to use the bathroom up there? I'm back from my trip to Philadelphia. The niece is okay. I made sure she was following up on her therapy and made sure she was taking her meds as prescribed. She's a different person. Thank you for all the kind thoughts and prayers. I did spend some time with some very old friends of mine from the area. Actually, they were roommates from college who never moved out of the Philly area. Needless to say we had a good time. One of my friends signed four of us up for "speed dating". It was hilarious. I was getting goofy towards the end. Needless to say, I don't think they'll want me back there again soon. It's just a shame how social interaction has degraded to five minute convos with total strangers. I wrote about it on TBTSRN. Well, I've tried it just to say I did but I don't think I'll ever do it again.Maybe you should come with me next time 24. They'll kick us out for sure. |

Welcome back.
Glad you had a good time and that your neice is following her therapy/prescribed meds. I have never speed dated. Not something I am interested in. If it works for some, then that is great. However, I think its all a bit wacky. |

Bungee jumping? Is that all you could come up with?
I would be like, "In my spare time, I scale tall buildings, fight crime, heal the sick..." ![]() Edit: Ooops, I misread that. I would probably go bungee jumping instead too. Maybe...

Well, have you heard that line about what a bear does in the forest? Actually, with a road that well-travelled, there are some facilities along the way, even if they're just pit toilets. The National Forest staff does a great job of keeping them clean. Most other trails that I hike do not have any facilities, though. At times like that, you just hope you can find a big tree, bush, or big pile of rocks. And you're supposed to try to either dig a hole and bury the "evidence" or cover it with rocks. 24, I hope to finish the rest of the road walk (10 miles) on July 4th, if my warehouse is closed for that holiday. Supporting retail stores, we are never assured that holidays will be time off if we have a lot of orders to process to get the goods out to our stores. Intrepid, I'm glad you had some fun on your trip, and happy to hear that your niece is doing OK. Bungee jumping next time, huh?
