Hey, I had a marvelous day today. I received the results from an annual bloodwork test (which checks about 30 different areas such as cholesterol, thyroid, triglycerides, protein, calcium, potassium, etc.), and I have finally, finally, after nearly 2 years, achieved a major goal. Two years ago, thanks to this free bloodscreening performed as a benefit of my significant other's workplace, I found out that my glucose level was rising. As diabetes had run in my father's family, I was a prime candidate. So I embarked on a quest to stave off the onset of the disease. For the first year, I barely held my ground in just preventing it from getting worse, but this year there was a dramatic drop (17 points) and I'm back in the "normal" range instead of "at risk". Excuse me while I
and generally pat myself on the back. Good news in other areas, my triglycerides are in the basement and most everything else is in the normal range as well. Still working on that body mass index thing, but that is slowly coming down as well. |

Good evening everyone! ![]() I have made a few changes to the Board today. Nothing too drastic. Just changed a few names and moved a few forums. I am "feeling out" a few of the changes and might end up changing those changes.

This weekend's agenda: Saturday 8:00 bus tour at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge to (hopefully) see burrowing owls. (That's the place hosting the bison that were released earlier this spring). I hope the burrowing owls are aware of the schedule and come out to pose for us. I'll probably follow that up with a walk for a couple of miles in their designated hiking area. After that, a visit over to a vacationing friend's house to check on their cat. Then back home to my own cats to change their litter box and do a little cleaning and a load of laundry. Evening will take me out to the airport to pick up my partner, returning from a visit to the sister who just had surgery. Sunday ... more laundry (it always multiplies during travelling), then trying to rest and regroup before I have to train a new person in my department at work on Monday. What's 24 up to this weekend? |

^^ Sounds like fun. I'll be doing some chores and I will need to run an errand or two today. Mostly hang out and watch some TV later. My cat is a.o.k. on the litter box. I might need to trim the hair out of my dog's eyes. He's getting really old and has terrible eyesight. Just a little bit of hair in his eyes has him banging into things. Its been raining a lot here lately. Not sure what I will be doing outdoors this weekend.
![]() They will actually come out during the day? |

We did have some luck ... got to see 5 of them. Apparently the burrowing owls aren't quite a nocturnal as their larger and more well-known owl cousins. Luckily, the tour was in the morning before the heat of the day really set in. We got to see some owls while they were still trying to find brunch. They're quite small and really cute, probably about the size of your hand. They prefer living in prairie dog towns, right alongside the dogs (which are actually large rodents ... they're just called "dogs" because it sounds like they bark). In fact, the burrowing owl will make a nest in an unused prairie dog burrow. Like meerkats in Africa, prairie dogs always have several burrows and "bolt holes" to choose from. The little owls seem to find this quite handy, and the dogs always have another burrow to use anyway. |

That's neat that you got to see them come out. With the meerkats, they do burrow into holes dug by other meekat families and other animals, but the competition for territory isn't as friendly as you describe between the prairie dogs and burrowing owls. |

I walked past a bush a little while ago and an insect did a drive by and stung my finger and the back of my leg. Happened within about one second. That darn bug!

^^^ No adverse effects from the bee sting? Good! Now we know you aren't allergic. Hello everybody! Busy busy busy as a bee I've been. I think I bring this all upon myself. I must be one of these people who attract wierdos and an extremely heavy workload. Destress..... "Rhode Island is neither a road or an island"..... discuss..... Okay... that was totally random. Now you all know the inner workings of my mind. Try having discussions with myself. It's havoc. Anyway, being a healthcare professional, I must commend you on your accomplishment Tribblemom. You took it upon yourself to not let a family history of Diabetes get the better of you. Keep up the good work. I myself am going to do a little destressing this weekend and take a drive up to Philadelphia and enjoy the weekend. It's about a 4.5 hour drive from here so it's far enough for a weekend trip. Just enough time to get back for Monday. ewwww.... I hate Mondays. How have you been 24? What are you doing to destress? Catch up with you all later. Time to hit the time clock.

^^ Hello, hello. ![]() It wasn't a bee sting. Some really small insect that I didn't even get a good look at because it was moving so fast. It stung for the rest of the night, but its fine today. No marks were left either. Its been a long time since I was last stung by a bee. I have never had allergies of that kind thankfully.Going to Philadelphia sounds nice. Don't forget to pig out on philly cheesesteaks and when you finish do the Rocky run.
I've been better, but I am trying to work things out. Keepin' on, keepin' on. You know how that goes. I usually destress by watching TV or cruising the Internet. Listening to music works too sometimes. " " <=== I'm not even gonna go there.
Talk to you later. Don't take any crap from the patients. |

^^^ What?!!??! Okay, I've read enough. Hand over the music device and go to your room young lady. Oy Vey.... what's wrong 24? You aren't feverish are you? There is a 12 step program for people with the same problem. Let me make a few phone calls. The 12 step program help me get over my addiction to Josh Turner.
