Good late morning. :hello:

For both rain and snow, I will have to do more of a bust a move..

You have lots of outdoor fun. I need to get out more just to keep up with a quarter of the fun TribbleMom has.

Jordin won 24! The finale of Idol was "eh". Last year was much better.

Tribblemom,

What's car camping? Never heard of that one before.

How is everyone else?

Tribblemom,

What's car camping? Never heard of that one before.

Car camping is where you load all your gear into a car, drive right into a campground, and then set up your tent in the established area, very near your vehicle. I usually say "car camping" to differentiate between that and "backpacking camping" (walking into the backcountry, carrying all your necessary gear in a pack on your back). Car camping allows for more of the ammenities (like a cooler full of beer) that you normally have to sacrifice to avoid unnecessary weight when backpacking. The "getting away from it all" is compromised a bit with car camping, as you still have neighbors in the campground around you. But if you're lucky, they'll keep to themselves and hopefully won't bring a boom box.

Good morning eveyone!

Have a great time on your camping trip, TribbleMom!

If a bear comes up and asks you for a beer, for goodness sake give him one no questions asked! :scared:  ;)

24,
Fortunately I've never encountered a bear when camping. But I will indeed share a beer with a bear if asked. (One of my camping buddies would think that was just the greatest experience possible ... she loves bears). I've seen a fox wander through the campground in the middle of the night a couple of times, but he/she never asked for a cold one.

We're off early in the morning to join a couple of our friends who were able to leave Thursday evening to get "squatters' rights" to our favorite spot.

Here's a link to the view from my favorite campsite:

I hope to spend some time kicked back in a hammock doing nothing but looking at that mountain.

Here's a view of the campground itself:

And a view southwest down the valley from the big rock next to the campground:

Hello Everybody! :wave2:

Things have been really busy lately. Between family outings and Union business, I've had little time to post. I hope everyone is doing well. See ya' around.

Hey, Mfive, nice to see you drop by.

24, what's your favorite pie?

The camping trip was short (just one night) but very pleasant. Had good conversation around the campfire, toasting marshmellows, and got caught up with our friends. Amazingly (for a holiday weekend), the campground was only about half occupied. Perhaps folks feared there may still be snow that high up. That was OK by me, as I enjoyed the elbow room. Temps did get chilly at night (about 35 degrees F), but fleece and a heavy sleeping bag warded off the chill. We fell asleep serenaded by the calls of wild turkeys in the distance. And nobody camping there brought the dreaded boom box! :woohoo:

Sounds like fun was had by all. I used to go camping at the beach like that when I was a kid. The last time I attempted camping was again at the beach about 8 or 9 years ago. However, the spot that I had was in direct sunlight so there was no respite from the sun/heat except when it got dark. There were no spots in the shade available, so I ended up pulling up stakes after a couple of days and went to a hotel.

In general, I don't mind the outdoors and roughing it (to an extent ;) ) has never bothered me. I'm not a high maintenance individual. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do alot of outdoorsy trips in the past several years. I hope I can change that in the coming years.

I love lemon meringue pie. Cream pies in general are really good. I love cheesecake too. That’s sort of a cross between a pie and a cake.

Park your car near your tent you say?

Is that so you can run to your car if a bear comes by? ;)

I haven't been "real" camping since I was a child. I think the latest I've "roughed" it was in my sister's backyard when I went "camping" with her kids.

I love it though.

Speaking of pie.

On my way home from work I had a craving for pie and a glass of milk. I stopped at McDonald's and got one of their turnovers (okay two of them) and got a carton of milk and went to town.

Boy, that was good.

Yeah, those are good. They are cheap too. 2 for a $1.00.

There is a local (located in a couple of states) chain of chicken fast food restaurants called Bojangles. They have this sweet potato pie that is shaped similarly. They are awesome. I haven't had one in a while though. I feel a crave coming on.

Bojangles? We don't have one of those up here yet.

Yesterday I had this craving for fried chicken. Crispy. So I went to KFC on the way home and got a "bowl". I'm an emotional eater. Just put a picture of food in front of me and then I'll change my mind and want to eat that.

They are as far as I am aware only located in NC/SC. Maybe Southern Virginia. :chin:

Extra Crispy chicken at KFC is pretty good. I like their biscuits and cole slaw too.

I see that bowl on TV and it doesn't look all that apetizing.

Nothing like dousing some good fried chicken with hot sauce and digging in though.
