^^^ Yes, true. I was thinking more of a ground (army) war. I would not want to face those numbers. |

I don't think it will come to that. First of all, Taiwan has allies in Southeast Asia. There is more than one nation in the area that is concerned with China deciding that they can still claim territories won during Genghis Khan's reign. China being the last communist superpower left has been left alone for the most part by the international community because they haven't engaged in an aggresive campaign (firsthand anyway) since taking Tibet way back in 1949. China is quite interested in diplomacy and economic trade with the rest of the world, and probably won't be willing to turn the rest of the world against them anytime soon. They know their technology is still decades behind most other superpowers, and despite their numbers would probably face revolution if they are involved in an extended period of war. This of course, is my opinion, although not an uninformed one, that's still what it is.

Sirus, I do hope you're right. And I hope China thinks twice about such an action (if it ever were considered seriously, that is). |

Mel, Are you required to go in and have a parent/teacher conference every time your daughter gets a report card? |

Ugh, it's complicated! You see, we don't have report cards per se anymore, but what they call portfolios. I go in the classroom, and sit with my daughter. She shows me a binder full of her work done in the past term. We don't get to see grades and averages anymore.(which I HATE!, and I'm not the only one. Even most teachers find it ridiculous) Afterwards, if I have any questions, the teacher is there. I'd like to ask her who's bright idea this system is. I only get to see grades on individual tests and projects. And even there, it's on a scale of 1 to 4. 1 being the best and 4 being the worst(failing). I want to see percentages! So yeah, in order for me to see the "portfolio", I have to go. |

Wow, that is a strange system. You would also have to keep track of every individual grade and average them out yourself if you wanted to see a more structured grading of your daughter's work. |
