So one of the office securities just came by and gave me an envelope with a thank you card in it. The card was from one of the Program Manger Department Heads and he was thanking me for the work I had done on one of the programs he over sees this past year. Basically I put in a lot of over time doing work that is a bit out of my job description but am quite apt at performing and by doing so saved his group a lot of time and money. He is a manger of a department that I am not in, I am in Engineering he is in Program Management, so he does not really have the ability to give me things like raises or promotions. But just out of a level of importance to the organization he is higher in the organization than my immediate manager. At the most esoteric level his impertinence to me is that it’s good to know that at his level of management that I am known as someone to keep around. The note itself seems odd to me, I have never gotten one like it before, nor have I heard anyone else get one like it; but at the same time my company is pushing a new “Great Place To Work” program which this note would be perfect for. So it may be interlay possibly, while new it may not be all that special to get a note of this kind. As a side note; the program management department through this persons immediate subordinate has already given me a monitory reward or bones for helping them out this year. So the question I have; what do I do with this note? Do I go to this persons office and thank them for thanking me? That seems weird “hey thanks for thanking me”. Do I just wait till I pass him in the hall and say “hey, I got your note I appreciate it”. Or do I just live comfortably in the knowledge that I know that he knows that I know he gave it to me. Thanks for reading |
