New JJ Abrams post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi series staring Billy Burke, Giancarlo Esposito, Tracy Spiridakos..
The show premieres this Fall on NBC on September 17th.

Quote:

Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future. Written by NBC Publicity

I am interested in how they explain this failure of a something so fundamental. To me it is a big red flag as far as being believable. There are more than a few how to books out there about being able to create your own electrical generators. Heck, one backwoods guy on History's "Mountain Men" did just that to run the saw mill on his property a week or two ago.

I am cautiously optimistic, but the premise will be a difficult one to manage.

I don't know if you ever watched a series called "Dark Angel". I thought they handled it well. An electromagnetic pulse was launched in the atmosphere knocking out most/all computers/communications. They however were slowly rebuilding. There were few haves and many have nots though.

Someone appears to have computer technology if the trailer for Revolution is an indicator. I don't know how they will explain it. I can't imagine people aren't on a small level developing their own power sources after 15 years.

"Dark Angel" did handle the idea well. Though, as I recall, they never really resolved who caused the pulse and why. I must admit that I wandered away from it its last season and a half.

This one reads a small bit like a "Hunger Games" type future.

^^ I'm not quite getting that vibe. The first thing that I thought of was FlashForward. A little different with its plot, but the conspiracy behind the event makes me think this new should could be just as taxing. As long as they don't go around and around in circles with the story, it might be okay.

Just read this:

Revealed: One thing that DIDN'T black out J.J. Abrams' Revolution

Quote:

One of the hottest new series coming this fall is NBC's new J.J. Abrams vehicle Revolution, and the creators have promised a big, exciting mythology for the post-apocalypse—though they've kept a lot of details under wraps, until now.

Producers Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and Jon Favreau (Iron Man) recently teased some details to TV Line. Though they didn't say what might have caused the massive world event that knocked out electrical service, they did confirm one catastrophe that is not at the center of the series:

"There are a lot of things that would fry the [global] grid—for instance, the answer on our show is not a solar storm," Kripke said. "There, hot off the presses! Ours is not a solar storm."

So, what is the central mystery? Kripke didn't spill, but he did explain the lengths he went to in making sure his idea was scientifically viable:

"I had an answer that explains all the different facets—why the power went off, and why certain people are able to turn it back on—but of course that was coming from just a writer's imagination. So we brought in a physicist and asked him very specific questions—if this technology were possible, and if this happened and this happened, would such a thing be possible? And he said that it would, that it actually explains it and make sense."

Revolution debuts this fall on NBC. Will you be watching?

My guess is it will be a man-made event and not a natural occurrence anyway. A natural disaster might be much more plausible though.

Watched this trailer again. Looks like the good looking guy who will most likely become a love interest for the Niece is part of the militia. Which puts him in the enemy category... maybe.

I totally forgot about setting up my DVR to record this. I just checked and they are rerunning the Pilot episode tomorrow night at 10:00pm EST.

I think it is also on Hulu. Might even be streaming on NBC. I'll check later.

I watched this on Hulu over the weekend since I completely forgot about it last Monday. I thought it was pretty good overall and it kept me engaged throughout the episode. I too am wondering how they will explain the electrical failure. The hardest thing about it for me to believe is that even batteries failed. But it looks like it will be entertaining even if the explanation isn't convincing. I'm looking forward to tonight's episode (although I may not get to watch it tonight depending on my daughter's homework).

Just watched the Pilot episode. I thought it was suspenseful and well cast. I like Billy Burke’s role as the reluctant hero. A little bit of humor (the Google joke/money in the bank the one guy would trade for some Charmin). Nice twist reveal there at the end with Monroe and then the little computer boot up at the end with the lady who helped the young guy.

Looking forward to the next episode. I have to catch the Saturday airings.

24,

That's good to know about Saturday. I'll have to see if it's airing in my area on Saturdays. Monday night can be difficult because I'm usually helping my daughter with homework which generally runs late since she has gymnastics practice until 8:00 PM on Mondays. I don't have a DVR and the signal is copyright protected so I can't record it on VHS or DVD either. So, if it doesn't air around here on Saturday, I'll be watching it on Hulu sometimes.

I did catch the second episode last Monday. It enjoyed it, but I thought the pilot was a little better. I won't say anything else in case you or others haven't seen it yet.

I have watched the first 3 episodes now and am still trying to decide if I like the show well enough to keep watching. I think it has potential so I'll give it a chance for awhile, but so far the violence seems to be more the point than telling the story. It seems we learn a tidbit or two of information each episode and after that it's a lot of shooting, killing, and explosions. I don't normally mind violence - in fact some of my favorite movies are quite violent - but there is something I can't quite put my finger on about the way it's being done in this show so far that hasn't grabbed me like those movies did.

I did find out the original Monday airing is the only time it's shown in my area so I have to either watch that or hulu.

Having seen 4 episodes of this now, I'm starting to become disappointed with it. I won't go into details so I won't spoil it for anyone else. But suffice it to say I don't think the writing is very good. In addition, there is far too much use of flashbacks in my opinion and sometimes the transition to and from the flashbacks are awkward. A couple of things have my curiosity so I'll keep watching until those details are revealed, but there are some things that I doubt can be satisfactorily explained.

I'm liking Revolution so far. The twists have been interesting, especially the revelations about Miles and Nate (won't say what in case some haven't seen yet).

My guess from the start is the power was knocked out by either some kind of general energy dampening field that somehow encircles the globe, or a device that somehow affected the Earth's magnetic field to render electricity inert. Note so far we haven't seen any thunderstorms...nor should we. The pendants are able to cancel the field locally.

Whatever the device was, it's somewhere in the Northeast, if you watch the pattern of how the power went out, it radiated outward from my area (no, I didn't do it!)...those that have seen a copy of the map in Monroe's office (I posted a copy at STL), there's a lot of red marks around northern New Jersey...something at Princeton University, maybe?

Thankfully Charlie is getting a bit tougher as time goes on...almost no one posting on the Revolution FB page likes her.

NBC has ordered a full season of the show, but will be putting it on hiatus until March very soon... They may need the time to make more episodes.

I haven't been able to warm to the show. Maybe it's due to the idea that I just had little interest to start with, but it just doesn't seem to be hooking me.
