Anyone going to see this new Sci-fi movie loosely based off the board game? Opens this Friday. One of the primary reasons I am going to see this movie is Alexander Skarsgard. You can also see Liam Neeson, Rhianna, Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker... |

I think this is one of those films where having low or no expectations can only help. I see it as a video flick. Partly, I hate to say it, because I am really starting to find Rhianna irritating and the clips I've seen her in have only added to that. |

Yeah, I don't see this movie being strong on story. Definitely big on action. Probably about on par with "Battle: Los Angeles". I'm being dragged to this one. About half the movies I see at the theater are movies that I actually want to see. I'm at least happy about Skarsgard's participation... Liam Neeson too. I find Rhianna annoying, so I'm hoping her character is less so. |

*** Review... with very minor spoilers *** Where oh where do I begin. Weak story, bad to mediocre acting, sketchy directing and editing, lame comic relief, one long US Navy recruitment extravaganza, a big what the snikies was Liam Neeson doing in this movie at this stage in his career (he can pick and choose anything, and he chose this??), a lot of shaking my head at how cliché and poorly acted the character portrayed by Rhianna was (not to mention she wore an ill fitting wig), also somewhat disappointed in Alexander Skarsgard’s role, a lot of stretching the imagination and a big dollop of bad dialogue. I think this movie was trying to be that big fun patriotic popcorn movie that tends to come out around Fourth of July, but they came out early and they fell flat on their faces. There were a few positives in this movie… 1) great soundtrack (classic Rock N Roll style), 2) the aliens, their technologies and their EV suits and 3) some older US War veterans and more recent war veterans got a paycheck from this movie for their participation (hopefully). I think that’s about it. I give the movie 2 stars out of 5 stars. |

You went and saw it too? But yeah, I almost gave it a 1 star. Edited by 24thcenstfan, May 18 2012, 08:23 PM.

It looks all guns and no story from what I've seen in the trailers... |

I saw the SyFy knockoff over the weekend, "American Warships" (originally titled "American Battleship" until Universal objected)...aside from the cheesy CGI, story taken liberally from "Balance Of Terror" and the first episode of nuBSG, it was just what you'd expect from a SyFy Saturday night premiere...bad enough to be good, with mediocre acting and at least entertaining in a B-movie way. |

Haven't seen it...ain't gonna. Just wasted an evening watching Battle: Los Angeles from Netflix, which was just a long, dull marine recruitment video. Sci-fi is just like everything else that humans do; you gotta dig though TONS of crap to find an occasional diamond. Life is too short to endure B-movies! |

Just to skip on "Battleship" and just pick up "American Warship" for $5 at the local Big Lots |

That's a better price than Wal-Mart where it's $9.99... |

There's only been one really good movie based on a board game, and that was the movie "Clue". Really well done comedy/mystery IMO. The movie "Jumanji " was not based on an actual board game, but I thought they did a really good job creating a story inspired by a board game. "Battleship" wasn't all that board game inspired. |

I saw it last weekend and enjoyed it. It's going to win any awards, but it was exact what I expected. A popcorn movie. |
