Frankly, I know the studios (and even the director this time round) prefer it to be rated less than an "R", but I am glad it got rated this way. There is nothing wrong with a movie not being aimed at younger kids once in a while. After all, it is the parent spending the money anyway...

Judging by the trailers, I wouldn't think they are going to rate it any less than MA15+ here. I have to say thats a good thing, children shouldn't be watching that.

Anyway a new TV trailer:

They've been playing trailers on TV here every night at least once for the past 3 weeks. Its expected to be a big hit here.

I've also added a poll for when the movie premieres.

It is released on 30th of May in Belgium, France and Switzerland.

7th of June in Australia.

8th of June in America.

Here is a list of release dates:

In a Prometheus related story...

Prometheus PR Stunt Turns French Subway Station Into An Alien World

snippet

Prometheus really is everywhere. It’s on the TV, before other movies, on DVDs, on magazine covers, and on every movie site in the known world. Everywhere, including apparently, a French subway station. A 20th Century Fox public relations team has turned the Saint-Martin metro station in Paris into a replica of the cave from director Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi adventure.

This is one hell of a publicity stunt, recreating some of the massive relics the crew of the ship Prometheus discover on in their exploration of an alien world…

Photos can be found at link.

Pretty cool. I think Prometheus is being promoted way more internationally, than it is here in the US. My impression that is.

Out of this world! Prometheus set to break records with £500,000 advance ticket sales

Prometheus may just be the most talked about Sci-fi movie out this summer, and it hasn't disappointed in demand either.
The BFI Imax is set to break records in advance ticket sales after taking over £500,000 for the highly anticipated movie.
The film premieres in London tomorrow but thousands of movie fans have already booked their seats for the epic action horror.

^^

I have to wonder if Prometheus will do as well in the US as it will internationally. I haven't seen a lot of promotion for the movie here.

I've seen a lot more promotion this week (and last as well). Even without the overt promotion that some films get, it has generated a lot of talk. Folks know it's coming.

I think it is going to do pretty well. Not as well as it might if it were PG-13 or even PG, but none of its predecessors were more lightly rated. Some stories just shouldn't be watered down. Personally, I hope it does well. From what I have read of the story and plot at this point it sounds really good. It does not sound like it is or should be beholden to the "Alien" films. The "Alien" universe is not as much of a feel good or optimistic place.

^^ I've seen a lot more promotion since I last posted on the topic.

I don't think the rating will be much of an issue. If it looks good to people, they will go see it regardless. These movies have never been particularly meant for real young viewers anyway, so the powers that be probably aren't counting on those kinds of movie goers filling the seats.

No, they never have been aimed at a young audience. However, back when the first one came out the full effect and desirability of getting kids butts into theater seats had not fully sunk in yet. Now, with flicks like this if it is aimed at a younger audience there is an even greater possibility of promotional tie-ins that the R rating does open itself up to. The studios pretty much see that as dollars lost (can't really see a Happy Meal toy that would go well here!). So, here you have this big budget special effects fest (apparently with a story to tell) and you cannot maximize your earnings off of it.

They've dropped the rating here which I think is stupud. the Australian Classification Board got "contacted" by 20th Century Fox, which asked them to drop the rating so its not restricted. And they did. The the board added: Under 15s should not see this movie.

So now instead of being MA15+ its now only M, for "Moderate Sci-Fi violence and a medical procedure". Before it was,"Strong Sci-Fi violence."

Makes you wonder how much money was passed under the counter.

Anyway found this, thought it sounded cool:

Hello STF! I was just wondering, have you made arrangements to see "Prometheus" yet? Also, have you read any reviews of the film in magazines or newspapers :read: , or have you made a conscious effort not to?

For various reasons i'll probably wait and watch "Prometheus" once it's released on DVD, but in the meantime i very much look forward to reading the thoughts and opinions of anyone here who watches the film.

Well, i'm planning to see it within about 2 weeks - and I plan to see it twice! lol, I've read a few, but I've read the ones without to many spoilers, the ones which don't go into any depth about the movie. :)

I saw it Friday before work with my wife. She really didn't like it. I really enjoyed it. It's a thought provoking movie. It's not a prequel. It's a solid sci fi movie.

Yeah, it has been getting some mixed reviews.

I plan to see it before it leaves the theaters. I don't know when yet.

Well, I saw it and found it alright but it didn't live up to the hype. To be honest I found it a bit disappointing. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked it, but it could've been so much better.

I've been reading similar reviews on the movie. I had hoped it would be an awesome movie...based on reviews.

I think I may end up waiting to see it when it comes out on DVD.

Was Michael Fassbender at least awesome as "David"?
