Has anyone here seen the 1970's series Survivors?

Its about a virus which destroys most of Humanity, and a group of people come together. But they face the many other small groups, which believe they can take the law into their own hands.

Wikipedia

As the world's population is almost annihilated by a mysterious pandemic, accidentally unleashed by a Chinese scientist, the crisis is first seen through the eyes of two characters - Jenny Richards, a young working woman in London and Abby Grant, a middle-class corporate wife living a privileged existence in a nearby commuter village. As Abby goes in search of her son Peter, Jenny wanders aimlessly through the countryside. Other major characters introduced in the first few episodes are the resourceful engineer Greg Preston, the shifty Welshman Tom Price and two children, John Millon and Lizzie Willoughby. Abby, Jenny and Greg eventually come together and realise they must start again from scratch now that the civilization they once knew has been destroyed. After several adventures on the road, they find a property called the Grange which they can use as a base and, joined by other survivors, they form a potted community of disparate individuals all united by a shared purpose - to relearn the old skills of farming and tool-making, and to try to live in this new world.

A remake was made in 2008

This is the original intro...

I've seen bits and pieces over the years, but never followed it all the way through. The pedigree, though, is what in part makes it as good as it is reputed to be.

^^^
It's a very "grown up" show. A very dramatic series with sci-fi plot line, but no aliens, no monsters, nothing "supernatural" at all. Obviously the sort of show BBC would have taken a chance on back in the day but would never have seen the light of day in the US.

^^ I just looked the show up and half expected someone involved in this series to have been involved with the movie "Contagion" that I recently watched. No connection that I could see.

However, Terry Nation (the show's creator), is/was a writer on many of the episodes from the current Doctor Who series (2005- 2010). He was also a writer/creator of Blakes 7. I haven't seen that one either, but it is well liked.

^I knew he did Dr Who, but I had no idea he did Blake 7!! I've seen a few episodes of Blake 7, but didn't enjoy it very much, but my dad loved it! So, you never know...

@Swidden,
I'm not to surprised that it wasn't played in the US, because my parents had to order the first season from London back in 1993. My mum got so excited when I found the DVD box set when I did a little bit of research, she said she was going to buy it with her christmas money.

I find it to be the kind of show you can watch again and again without getting bored. I love it :D

Ok, its taken me a while to find this thread, I didn't expect to find it in the Sci-Fi section? Just a little curious why its here, I don't believe its Science Fiction, more of a drama...

Ok after a little research I can see how it could be classified as Sci-Fi...

Wikipedia

New and different political or social systems (e.g. dystopia, post-scarcity, or a post-apocalyptic situation where organized society has collapsed)

But still, it must be on the edge of Sci-Fi, and heading right into the drama area....

Strange, I don't really understand how thats classified, but as long as we got there in the end....

Anyway thats got nothing to do with what I was originally going to say. I was just saying that the lead actress from the first season is in several star trek episodes from next gen to voyager, I can get a list if you want...

^^ I left a redirect link up for a while, but went through and removed a few recently. Sorry you got lost. :P

"Survivors" is categorized as post-apocalyptic fiction which is a sub-genre of Science Fiction.

Survivors is a British post-apocalyptic fiction television series devised by Terry Nation and produced by Terence Dudley at the BBC from 1975 to 1977. It concerns the plight of a group of people who have survived an accidentally released plague – referred to as "The Death" – that kills nearly the entire human population of the planet.

When a genetically engineered virus kills ninety-five percent of the world's population, the survivors must rebuild humanity in the face of overwhelming odds. "Survivors" is a study of man vs. nature and man vs. man in an attempt to reclaim an unrelenting world.

That definitely sounds like science fiction.

It's all good I found it! ;)

Yeah, I read the definition of Science Fiction on Wikipedia, and it is classified as Science Fiction :P

Yes, the actress is called Calolyn Seymore

These are a few images of her in Star Trek:

Subcommander Taris, TNG, "Contagion"

Mirasta Yale, TNG, "First Contact" (Not the movie)

Commander Toreth, TNG, "Face of the Enemy"

Mrs Templeton, VOY, "Cathexis", "Persistance of Vision"

This was her in Suvivors:

Abby Grant, Season 1, Survivors

She has also done a number of voice roles in some very well known computer games including one of my favourites, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3 (when its released.) and a number of others.

Ohh, I recognize her now. I didn't know she had done so many Trek roles though. In full hair and makeup, "you" don't always make the connection that so and so actress also portrayed another character. Especially on different series.
