I am most familiar with David Strathairn, Warren Christie, Ryan Cartwright and Malik Yoba.

I remember Laura Mennell from an episode of another series. Maybe one episode of a series including Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and while Azita Ghanizada appeared a few times on various shows I watch (according to her BIO), I don't remember her.

'Alphas' To Deliver Juicy, Surprising Role For Strathairn

I think the first movie I ever saw Strathairn in was "Sneakers". So, I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to "Alphas".

Nice opening episode so far. I didn’t know what to expect, but the show has a good vibe. I like all the characters except Bill Harken. He’s a bit of jerk.

Cameron Hicks was the character I was most interested in before the premiere….because I like Warren Christie. I think he is playing the character well.

I like that the group is not being portrayed as superhero like. They clearly have flaws and insecurities despite their superhuman abilities.

Creepy mind controlling hand guy…. is well creepy.

I am about one hour in and 30 minutes left to go. I’m going to watch the final 30 minutes tomorrow.

Edit: I have finished the first episode. I think it was an interesting conclusion. I have no idea what creepy hand guy was mumbling before he died.

Comments that Dr. Rosen made to Hicks toward the end about Hicks needing to be with them so that Rosen can protect him made me question Dr. Rosen's motives. It seemed a bit ulterior motivated.

I'm also going to add Nina to my list of not quite liking just yet. I can already tell the writers are setting the story up for Cameron Hicks and her to get together sometime. Please spare us.

Anyway, overall a good Pilot episode. We'll see how it continues to play out.

I watched this first episode. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more. Pretty good cast and could be quite interesting. What the tell-all will be is if they can stay creative. I can see the superpower thing getting old and stale.

I think as long as they don't become too super powery, then I think the superpower angle could stay fresh. Part of the charm of these characters is they seem like real people. Hopefully their skills don't become too unbelievable... saving the Earth and all.

Cause & Effect

Tonight's episode was interesting. Mainly because of the Marcus character. Seeing how he operates based on cause and effect was intriguing.

What I think might get old is them doing the “find the Alpha” story of the week. Hopefully we see a variety of cases.

I do believe the ulterior motive that I mentioned about Dr. Rosen was fleshed out a bit more in this episode. It is Rosen who decides if an Alpha needs to be institutionalized at Binghamton. He will be the one to decide Hick’s fate as well. Rosen wants Hicks around so that he can monitor his behavior.

I really wish the writers wouldn't do the obvious fallback character development and have Cameron Hicks and Nina get together. If they are going to write in a relationship, it would be nicer to see Hicks get together with Rachel.

Marcus falling into the water... no body and a quarter left behind. I think we could be seeing him again.

Hope we see more light-hearted storylines. This episode was more on the dramatic serious side.

You mean like Wesley? :loling:

I just wached episode 2. Very good I thought and we've now got some good controversy...

I like the cast.

Wellll, I never really had a problem with the way Wesley was portrayed until "Journey's End". TNG was a futuristic setting and his genius abilities were for the most part plausible to me.

However, I understand many felt his abilities were just a bit too super powery. :D

-----

Overall I like the Alpha cast too. Not a fan of Malik Yoba in this role yet. I've liked him in past roles. Just not feeling this one yet.

Hey Yanks,

You accidentally hit the "Report" button instead of the "Quote" button and ended up reporting your reply to my comments. LOL.

Here are the comments so you don't have to retype...

I think he's a "Tel'c" I enjoy his character.

I am a big fan of David Strathairn though.

I actually liked Wesley early on, but later in the series he saved the universe way to much...

You mean stoic like Teal'C? Harkin is a bit more expressive I think.

Yeah, I think they did well with casting David Strathairn.

I managed to watch most of the Pilot episode. I found it somewhat interesting, but there seemed an odd quality to it. Characters seem to be intentionally quirky and, if first impressions are anything, Malik Yoba's character seems to be an all around @$$. Definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Frankly, I think he should go, but we'll see if he grows on me or not.

Now there seems to be enough to make me want to look at it again, but I am on the fence with it. The odd quality to it, is it almost seems to try too hard to follow a police procedural formula (a la CSI, Criminal Minds, NCIS, etc.). The problem is that it seems to do it in a cliched way. A way that if it were just another procedural I would turn it off after the first episode and not look back.

I'm not big on Malik's Yoba's character either. He's a bit over the top.

By "intentionally quirky," do you mean over acting...or maybe inauthentic? The characters supposedly all have various conditions that cause them to act in quirky ways... which is how they are supposed to be I believe.

I need to catch up on the series, but it seems to me that there is a struggle right now to find a niche (e.g. dramatic, comedic, quasi-....). I'm not sure how to take these character yet.

As far as the "intentionally quirky" goes I think possibly a bit of both. I understand that they are supposed to be societal misfits and it is kind of refreshing in some ways, but it almost seems that the actors don't quite have the hang of it yet. It is still a show I can go either way on at the moment. If it finds its voice and does it well, I could get hooked on this show.

I've officially removed this show from my viewing guide. I've got too much on my viewing plate and the show just failed to hold on to my attention. Maybe I will pick it up again some other time.
