Updated: 'Sarah Jane Adventures' Will Not Continue Without Sladen
Quote:

British tabloid The Sun recently reported that the "Doctor Who" spin-off series "The Sarah Jane Adventures" is likely to continue production on its fifth season without Sladen, insisting that writers will find a way to explain her absence for the remainder of the season.

"Writers will find a way to complete the series without Sarah," a source apparently told the newspaper. "Fans will be thrilled to know it is returning."

Now though, writer Gareth Roberts took to Twitter to set the record straight, explaining that "The story... re SJA is not true."

The series was in the middle of filming the fifth season of the CBBC series when Sladen passed away, leading many to believe that the series would end with the last episode completed or that the fifth season would be put on indefinite hold.

It is unclear whether or not the completed episodes will air.

Assisting The Doctor in his travels, Sladen appeared in 81 episodes of the classic "Doctor Who" series (working with both Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker), according to Internet Movie Database. She later made a brief appearance in Russell T. Davies' revitalized era in 2006, teaming up with David Tennant and Billie Piper, and then went solo for her own spin-off series.

She also appeared in the final episodes of "Doctor Who's" fourth season, with an additional cameo appearance in David Tennant's final episode as The Doctor.

It's probably only fitting that they end the series. When Syfy was running this series I enjoyed watching it. It was very reminiscent of the "old" Doctor Who series in the way it presented the stories, although with substantially better sfx. If she had not passed it likely could have gone on for a few more seasons at least. Her loss is terribly unfortunate, however, she leaves a legacy in science fiction that really very few others achieve with the characters they played.

I started watching SJA when it first aired, but I wasn't able to get into it for reasons I can't recall now.

The show had an interesting concept.
