ZGC Thread; Farewell old friend

Well my friends, I have some sad news. I just did something embarrassingly stupid. I accidentally deleted the original ZGC thread. I can't believe I did that.

We lost close to 5,000 posts as a result. :thud:

I've asked Support if they have any restore options available to them, but I've seen them post responses to similar questions in the past and I am not hopeful that they can do anything to rectify the situation.

Soooo, in memory of, and in the spirit of renewal... I am launching a new Zero Gravity Cafe' 2.0 Thread.

Oh, and umm... feel free to stop by the Count to 5000 Thread with a Twist Thread.

I just heard back from Support. They don't have the ability to restore the thread. Sorry guys.

I am sick over this. Hopefully we can make some new memories on the new ZGC thread.

Oh no! :(
Now the 40,000 post celebration has been for nothing. :(
But mistakes can happen. :)

I plan to note the original 40,000th post/poster as "the original" because a posting award was given. We will just have two 40,000 post awards.

So that won't be much of an issue. :D

LOL 24 (that's laughing WITH you, not AT you), you're reminding me of something that happened when I first got hired in my current IS job 16 years ago. We had spent 3 months building a database by manually data entering thousands of files. That was the beginning foundation of our company which had just started out. My employer asked me to delete a file which was sitting right next to the main database file and it had a similar name. So I deleted it. Then I noticed the file was still there. How could that be? Oh, I must have deleted the wrong file - oops! Then I realized I had deleted the database file... OOOPS!!! And it was Windows NT 4.0 at the time which had no recycle bin or undelete option - believe me I checked! My heart sank, my stomach soured, I'm sure I turned ghost white, and I thought surely this job was coming to a quick end! But my employer just laughed when I told him and said "that's why we have backups".

It's now just a funny story, but I have NEVER deleted any file since then without being absolutely sure I selected the right one! :D

I was lucky about the backup. It's too bad ZetaBoards can't redeem you in the same way. But IMHO, it's ok. It's probably rare that anyone reads more than just the last few days worth of posts anyway in a thread like that one.

On a side note, my employer's reaction impressed me because he still COULD have been livid at my carelessness. He's a great guy and a large part of what has kept me there all these years.

LOL. Thanks for understanding. Sounds like you lucked out getting the boss you did.

I've done that same thing on my two message boards! Don't feel bad 24, we'll build the new thread back up again. Did you try to get it back through the archive function??

Unfortunately, with Delete it doesn't go to an archive. If I had accidentally 'Trashed' the thread then we may have been in luck.
