This thread was split off from another during the site reorganization.

Hi STF, I moved this reply over to our Sci-Fi thread....as there is a separate thread (and forum) now for Sci-Fi related topics. :)

I saw it when it first came out. I've always been a fan of the X-Files and thought as a stand alone film it worked well enough. Like Trek movies, in some instances, it comes across more as an expanded episode of the series. Alas, as a result of that I don't think it did well enough at the box office to warrant another sequel any time soon. If anything, I suspect that a few years from now we could actually see a big screen reboot of the franchise with new actors in the established roles.

I forgot the name of the movie, but it had army type soldiers in it, with alien ships trying to take over the world. It was out a few months ago. Darn it, i don't recall the movie name....

Was it Battle: Los Angeles?

I went to see that movie. Not bad.

That's it! I did like it. A little too much "shoot 'um up" for me. But the special effects were excellent.

Yeah, the gung-ho stuff was a tad over the top at times, but I was able to overlook that for other things.

I wasn't overly impressed with some of the special effects though. Even when the showed the aliens up close, it was hard to really get a good look at them. I think they saved the CGI budget for the second half of the movie when more alien transports were shown. I thought the CGI was of higher quality then.

Yeah I quite liked it but as you said it did feel like a longer version of some of the episodes. However I did enjoy it! I'm a big X-Files Fan! It'd be good to see a reboot but I'd miss the old actors!

My original reply to this got lost in a split somewhere. I have seen parts of it, but I have had a hard time getting through it. It just does not hold the same interest that the first movie did.

I'm saving it for future viewing in its entirety though.

I decided not to see it at the theater. The movie looked like a "rent me" movie.

It was super good on the big screen. I felt like I was in the movie myself! I had my doubts about Tron, but it was very well done in my opinion.

The local theater by my home is playing classic sci fi flicks on the big screen. I'm going to see The Incredible Shrinking Man!! Can't wait! WOOT!

Came across an airing of John Carpenter's "The Thing". Based on an old sci-fi novella called "Who Goes There?" by John Campbell. Previously made into a movie in the 50's (called "The Thing from Outer Space").Very rarely does it seem that the more modern version are better than their classic counter-parts, but this is one such case. Very faithful to the original story.

Coincidentally, I saw that movie a few months back. Very suspenseful. I didn't particularly like the ending though... a touch abrupt.

It was pretty good on the big screen! Hubby got it when it came on the pay-per-view and it was okay, but I really liked it better at the theater. Esp the games and light cycles :D
