I went and saw “Battle: Los Angeles” today.

I thought it was a good movie. Aaron Eckhart stared in it as Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz.

The movie was about an alien invasion of Earth. The alien strike took place in all of the major cities around the world first.

The Marine platoon that was predominately featured in the movie was led by Lt. Martinez and Staff Sergeant Nantz. They were tasked with duties in Los Angeles that had them on the ground fighting to keep LA from falling to the aliens.

While there was the occasional hint of other alien invasion type movies (its hard to be truly unique with an alien invasion story), in general I thought this was not just another War of the Worlds rip off.

I liked most of the characters. I thought Aaron Eckhart did a good job in the movie. I did think there was one weak link character portrayed by Michelle Rodriguez. She is just not a very good actress in my book.

Overall the CGI was pretty good. I liked it more in the second half of the movie. I never really got a great look at the aliens even when they were up close to them when the soldiers began encountering them on the streets. The CGI budget I think was directed more toward the latter half of the movie when there was a lot more combat with the aliens and more alien transports shown.

The movie was action packed, but still took a little time to develop some of the characters. There were a few gung-ho cheesy lines, but nothing too bad.

I would say this movie classifies more as an action/war movie, and less as a Sci-fi movie. The enemy just happens to be from outer space instead of another country.

There was a lot of camera movement in this movie, but it wasn’t vomit inducing. The soldiers were constantly on the move.

I am going to give this movie a solid 3 out of 4 stars. Two thumbs up.

Good to know 24. I have become a tad skeptical of films like this. They all start to look the same after a while. Fireh8er posted elsewhere he saw it and liked it too. Between you and him, it's sounding like this one will be worth a look.

There were a few issues with the movie and the critics have been slamming it, but I still think it was a good popcorn movie at the very least.

LOL. The Syfy channel aired a new movie last night with almost the same exact title and movie premise. "Battle of Los Angeles".

I recorded it to watch later, but I watched about 15 minutes of it. Really bad to say the least.

That's funny that the Syfy channel is trying to piggy back its movie on "Battle: Los Angeles".

They also did something similar with "Transformers". Every now and again they rerun this movie called "Transmorphers: Yada yada yada" and I do a double take to make sure I am not misreading...

I've seen that movie on the menu before. Got a good eye roll and laugh from the title.
