Does the world really need another Twilight Zone remake?

Thanks to producer Leonardo DiCaprio, we're getting one—Warner Brothers has just hired a writer to deliver a new take on a Twilight Zone movie. But haven't these bones been picked over enough already?

First, there was the terrific-in-every-way TV series—which still, after more than 50 years, remains at the top of the televised science fiction heap. Then came the 1983 film, with installments directed by Steven Spielberg, John Landis, Joe Dante and George Miller—and which saw Vic Morrow's accidental death. And then we got another Twilight Zone TV series, which ran from 1985-1989 and was better than we tend to give it credit for—especially in comparison to the 2002 attempt at rejuvenating TZ for TV, which lasted a scant season before being put out of its misery.

So now we're at it again, with Jason Rothenberg being hired to write the redux. But does anyone really want a New New New New Twilight Zone? The name still plucks at the memory, sure, evoking classic, merciless twists. Nostalgia can be a powerful motivator, and I'm sure that's exactly what Warner Brothers is counting on. But every Twilight Zone iteration has been a mere shadow of its predecessor.

Perhaps this is simply a concept whose time has passed.

What do YOU think?

To answer the article's title question.... maybe. I wouldn't mind a TV series (maybe), but a movie?? I think this would be better suited for the small screen.

"Maybe" is right 24. From what I saw of the most recent TV (and that wasn't much) it did not grab me. The "original" movie had good moments, but wasn't overwhelming. This franchise does not really seem big screen material.

A movie made today would probably end up being some weird reality TV meets Blair Witch meets some form of pseudo-intellectual mumbo jumbo. Something out there and abstract. It would then go straight to DVD.
